One of the most important things I feel is , as you mentioned living below your means. We had been saving our $1 bills for around two years. We had gathered so many they wouldn't fit in the place we had been keeping them anymore. So we cashed them in at the bank yesterday it took about 30 mins and two tellers to count the $2950 we had saved up. Now it's going in our emergency fund and not being touched.
I never noticed the Christmas t-shirt until you pointed it out. 😅 Thanks for the tour of your home and telling how you save money. We had a washing machine that lasted us 35 years until it completely broke down. No way to fix it. Thanks for sharing.
My washing machine started getting louder and louder on the spin cycle. It almost sounds like an airplane taking off in my garage. I called a repairman out and he gave me a laundry list of things that needed fixing= totaling up to over $400. I paid him his $79 visit charge and decided to use it until it died. I found out that if I did not utilized the supe size button and only went with a large sized load that my machine was not as noisy. It has lasted me 8 more years and is still working. It is a commercial size machine, but I no longer place oversized loads in it. Amazing that it is still going strong. I also now have a "free" backup one for when this one actually dies. Mine has 17 years on it. They don't make ones like it anymore.
Yes. Repair if possible. New appliances last less than 10 years. We replaced a clothes dryer only 8 years old in Nov. My first one lasted 20 years and it was not too of the line. It went through 2 kids and 2 moves.
My home body clothes are the most thread bare. They’re so comfy ! Lol. My favorite flip flops have duct tape around them and my slipper have holes in the big toes. But I don’t care. They’re comfy. 😊
Practical advice that is easy to follow and your home is warm and inviting. Amazing with the longevity of your appliances, good quality. enjoyed the content,
If i know I'm not going anywhere, i wear my "home clothes" that are just raggedy old clothes I've had for years. Still comfy plus i can clean house wearing them & save my nicer clothes for going out.
This is all so fantastic. I also use most things until the end of their life. I love getting good use and having money well spent. Most recent incident was the fitted sheet on my bed disintegrated. My daughter got a chuckle out of that. I used it for years until it was threadbare and had massive holes. I liked it for certain times of the year because it's a 100% cotton. I already had a replacement, I just didn't want to part ways with it until the end of its useful life. Plus I always think about how things are going into the landfill and mindful consumerism as well as saving money.
I wholeheartedly agree with you on the landfill thing. I grew up with a mom who lived through the depression and as a child she taught me how to make braided rugs/mats out of scraps. We even tore strips to stuff the winter beds of the dogs that slept out on the front porch unless the temps fell into the single digits. I can't stand to see wood go into the garbage.
I'm the same. I'll use things until the end. We have a sofa and loveseat purchased in 1991. It is very much a 90's stripe, but the most comfortable sofas in the world. Everyone in the family is after me to replace them. I may look into recovering them, lol. I actually repaired the upholstery where the welting was frayed. I had some embroidery silk that I think blended nicely, lol.
@@3TXSisters awesome!!! Furniture was so well made back then. That's amazing it's lasted this long and you'll be able to repair it. Sadly there comes a time when we do have to replace things and say goodbye. Until then maybe you could get a slip cover? That could modernize the look of it inexpensively
@@pajamamama5965 That's true. I'll look into it. They're made by Vanguard. I think the company went out of business. I thought about trying to contact them to see if they make slipcovers.
You know I love a home tour! I love that you've given chores to your daughter's boyfriend. My mother never knew how many would be for dinner with all the boyfriends and girlfriends, lol. One thing you may want to consider when you replace your flooring is to use vinyl planks throughout the house. It's good for wet areas and makes the rooms look larger as there is a continuation of the flooring. We kept carpet in our bedrooms, and you may want to do the same. We're in our little furnished apartment in Houston and realize how little you really need. I've been cooking using different types of cookware. I brought a sharp knife from home, thank goodness. We did purchase 3 knives to leave for the next tenets. I also need to replace a bowl that I thought was microwave safe, yikes! I hope I don't have any more adventures with cooking, lol. Love to all, Linda 💕
I love the cooked lemon pudding! It's hard to find in the store now. I love the dark tile in the eating area. It's pretty and looks like it's in good condition. Have a great day!
Hi Dawn! When I saw your vintage microwave, it reminded me of my situation. My vintage microwave is above my stove, when it quit working rather than look for another one that exact size to replace it with...I used the vintage one to store some skillets that I use frequently. I did replace the microwave with another one in a counter area. By the way, love your new hairstyle and the color looks good on you too. 👍
We are on the same page this year! I am not buying any books or clothes- even if they're on clearance. And one little thing at a time on the house. I just try to approach everything with a sense of gratitude
Love your talks mom ... I turned down the temperature on my hot water heater because the water was too hot ... I am hoping to see some savings on my bill next month.
I turn mine to vacation mode in the warm months and just turn it up on laundry/dishwasher days (as my dishwasher doesn't heat the water). I used to do my wash in cold water, but I find that warm water does a better job on my whites.
You have a nice home. My home is paid for also but it needs major repairs.we do all repairs ourselves to the house and to our vehicles as well as our appliances. My fiance fixes everything. We save lots of money on contractors and mechanics and bodywork expenses. I cook and bake up to 4 times a week and I freeze everything we don’t use right away. Your home looks clean and comfy. I save money by rarely eating out. I save eating out for special occasions. And, years ago I stopped buying coffee and snacks out. I never leave my house without a snack and something to drink.

Hello Dawn, I have the same whirlpool washing machine that you have. I really like it. It gets items clean and seems to save on water with the sensors for recognizing load size.
I had 10 pounds of potatoes that were starting to go soft. I made a huge pot of mashed potatoes and froze them in serving sizes. The other night we had leftover roast. We had already had two dinners and sandwiches so I froze it with some of the mashed potatoes and some green beans. Now we have a meal in the freezer for a night we don't want to cook.
You look fabulous! I agree with being comfortable at home....and you and I are kindred spirits with the bath and body wash! I wait til it goes on sale for 4.95 and rotate that with my cheap body wash!!! I also hang on to everything til it breaks! Have a super night
Me too! I only go 2x a year for the big sales & rotate with my cheaper body wash. Plus I add a little water to make them last longer. The load size of my washer broke off & it's permanently on small load. Otherwise it still works so I fill up buckets of water & manually fill up the washer to wash bigger loads. My sister has offered to buy us a new one but technically it still works so I intend to use it til it dies.
Why my Dearest Dawn ? That floor is BEAUTIFUL ❣️Classic ❣️ If it ain't broke why ? Not only that, it is easy to clean ? Please don't get me wrong, Hardwood Floors are Gorgeous, but they have to be maintained. My husband is a Hardwood flooring specialist. We were talking/daydreaming about what kind of flooring we might want for our kitchen and bathrooms, not wood there. I currently have Hardwood in my kitchen. He was able to get an extremely closeout price and did the installation himself. I Love that that floor is never hot or Cold.
Great video! I would love to remodel our house but I’m like you I don’t want to spend the money. We built our house in 1994 and to be honest I still love how it looks so I may just repaint. I do want our master bath to be handicap assessable so we are planning on doing that this summer.
Hi Money Mom, When your screenshot popped up with you in the front yard, I thought you might be starting a garden in your front yard. That would save you money and help the environment.
My dryer is 34 years old, lol, so I appreciate the fact that you've kept your dryer so long too. My hubby is very handy, and he's fixed it several times. Still runs like a top. I think your channel is great, I'm very thrifty too. 😁
Going to be moving soon & the situation means I will be starting from zero. Since that's my reality I am getting everything 2nd hand or gifted from family members. I am on a mission to eliminate plastic storage items & replace with glass. The second thing I'm doing is committing to take advantage of a stores return policy. If you shop @ Trader Joe's they will take back anything you aren't happy with, so an item I opened this morning I just don't like it so I am returning it for the $3.99 & putting that money back in my grocery budget!!
Sometimes just switching furniture (or just pictures) between rooms, painting an accent wall or changing a shower curtain breathes new life in a home that is starting to feel tired. I got a can of oops paint for $9 and repainted my bedroom. Along with moving the furniture around and changing out pictures made it feel so different to me for a total cost of $12 (additional money for tape). Pulling out the carpet cleaner and doing the carpet with Odoban also made it smell new 😀
We’ve had some unusual weather this season and we’ve had to use the heater more than any year in the past. It’s costing us about $150/$200 more a month to heat so, we’ve cut our budget in other areas, like food, entertainment (books, movies, etc.), travel (gasoline). We just recently retired and I’m kinda not liking cutting us off but it should start warming up in April and we can get back to normal. Plus side to all of this is that we’re really decluttering and deep cleaning and have been making a list of things to do and repair in the house. I’m feeling more organized.
Sorry you have to cut back on your budget for additional heating. I've been using a space heater in the morning. It's great that you've organized more!
I went to Wal-Mart the other day & they had some heaters on clearance! I bought 2, 1 to keep & the other to donate when winter comes around again. My church collects fans in summer & heaters in winter to distribute to those in need.
hi Dawn. You are looking great. Your weight loss in showing, and your skin is glowing. Meal prep can take two hours a week. I've noticed that I don't have more than 30 minutes of patience for cooking dinner. If I think dinner is going to take longer than that, I start thinking about fast food. Which makes meal prep crucial. I'm trying to figure out a reliable time of week in which I can carve out two hours and have no one bothering me so I can prep. You look really well in true colors. Your yellow polka-dot shirt is definitely in your palette. I've noticed that people look good in their birth month's color palette. That'd mean your birthday is in summertime, is it? People in December are jewel-tones versus the cold color palette that one might think it would be.
That's interesting about the color palette. Her birthday is in March. My birthday is in July, and I could never determine if I was a Spring or Summer color palette. I look best in red, however. 😊
Since the middle of jan this year 2024 weve had a 2k vet bill, had to buy a new freezer, new fridge and this week a new washer. They were very old and they conked out but its taken ALL our savings.
great MM! is the Boyfriend helping out with the food budget?! i sure hope so - we can't afford any freeloaders these days budgets are too tight. young men tend to eat for two! young people these days!! can hubby take on some of the regular maintenance around the house? would be a great way to save money and help contribute toward the household budget! every little bit helps - even if it's something very basic that he could pick up off youtube. think of all the money you could save if you could off load some of these simple tasks. it's a win win.
Ive been doing the 1 and 5 dollar challenge. I have a lot of june and july birthdays so i don't know if im spending then or trying to go for the year. If you would want to it would be fun to see you do the challenge. Some people just do 1 dollar or just 5 dollar challenge.
Hi 👋 I'm interested to know why so many homes in America use a dryer after doing their washing? Fair enough if u have no yard space for a clothes line but the homes in America are mostly big compared to here in Australia. I use my tumble dryer sparingly & would never put a whole wet load in. But I think our electricity costs more than most countries. Its like 40cents a kw/hour
In Canada dryer use increased because our mothers froze their fingers hanging clothes out at 0- -45°C. Those got brought in like boards that dripped dry onto the floors. A lot got carpets in 1960's-1990's. We get cold winter weather 5-7 months of the year. Both parents work now so time restraint. Also too much moist air in winter can cause problems. I understand our country has cheaper energy than a lot of place.🇨🇦
Definitely weather I would love to hang clothes out year round but the weather usually stops cooperating around Halloween and starts again around April
I live in Florida, and it's so humid most of the year that the clothes would never dry. I try not to iron any more than necessary, so the dryer helps with that. I do hang a lot of clothes to dry inside either flat on a guest room bed with a ceiling fan on or in the laundry room.
I have a purple Christmas shirt I wear around the house if I’m not going anywhere. 😂. Isn’t that a silicone mat? I made a monthly chore calendar and it’s on my refrigerator. It helps me to not forget to do things.
My neighbor and I trade food as well if I have something she needs, she'll give me something I need definitely keeps both of us from going to the grocery store
I guess you could say that I'm saving money around the house by not doing anything! 😍 However, I did recently have to purchase a new HVAC $y$tem and had over two thou$and dollars work done on my 2004 jeep. Am comfortable with all my outdated stuff!
Wow! That was a hit to the emergency fund. We have 2008 Nissan Armada that we love. It hasn't needed any major work done, but we've both said we'll repair as much as possible rather than replace.
@@3TXSisters Good Idea! I've put big bucks into my vehicle over the years, including regular maintenance, but well worth it at my (old) age. But good idea for anyone!
I love libby! I have a rule about clothes - only buy what I love. Since I love very few things I hardly ever buy. It helps to keep weight stable so I don’t outgrow my clothes. I think most people wash clothes too often. My 1996 washer still works just fine.
Hi Dawn. Im with you on the buying things on clearance or sale. I now shop more intentially as well. Especially when it comes to clothes. I was just wanting to know how many tops and bottoms you own total not counting work clothes. Also, what do you think is a realistic number of clothing to have? Thanks.❤
Again good advice 😀 Sometimes it can be less expensive to eat at home But helping your local community by eating at local restaurants on days they have specials I know it sounds like counter productive but competition in the market keeps over all prices lower and more affordable however if they have no business then larger companies can raise overall costs willy nilly, in addition sometimes these special s are cheaper in their cost than you can make it I try. to write this weekly treat into my grocery budget 😊 This also boosts my overall moral and that makes me feel more productive - sometimes it's just loaded sausages and chips and slaw and we carry them to a local park to play for a while while enjoying a picnic - I mean think loaded hot dogs a drink and chips with my premade salad for only just under$5 depending on the group, if not athletic fly kites, go for a walk and scavenger hunt with your camera, are all ways to enjoy the day off and give back to the community by supporting a local business and keeping prices competitive 😊❤ love your ideas just sharing some often not considered costs that need to be considered when fighting inflation ... and having this to loo forward to keeps your stress level down win win , when you think about it.
@@americanviewpoint I agree with Dawn: you are a very kind person to think about supporting local businesses. You turn it into a personal treat too, so it's win-win.
I,too, use things until I can't anymore. I will add nail polish thinner to my nail polish to stretch it out. I purposely get clothing bigger than my actual size. I mend things until there's nothing left to mend. We eat simple meals, small portions, drink water,
I take my coffee foid when go out when go out with friends i buy only coffee and cake when i go three night stay in our city i bring my own foid water mame coffee in the apartment go off peak season i have capsule wadrobe and ingredients
When I recommend a home warranty from a place like Central point energy or sell energy. The $37 fee includes appliance repair or replacement on stole refrigerator washing machine furnace water heater.
I’m wondering whether it might be more cost effective to do your flooring all at once as companies charge more if it’s a smaller job. If your husband will do it no problem.
You are the breath of fresh air on youtube …real life… down the earth.. 👍💐
Wow, thank you

You are a love
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom And I LOVE You❣️❣️❣️
I liked her floor also!
Wow I love your home .I see the Love . 🥰
Thank you so much 🤗
I love your home it’s so comfy and cosy. I can’t believe how long you have your dryer! Just goes to show how well made they used to be.
So true!
Took me until 63, but am finally listening to my own advice...Quality over Quanity 😂
Great video! I would love to remodel our house but I’m like you I don’t want to spend the money. We built our house in 1994 and to be honest I still love how it looks so I may just repaint. I do want our master bath to be handicap assessable so we are planning on doing that this summer.
I understand
Painting helps a lot, I think.
Gŕeat video as always ❤
Glad you enjoyed!
Hi Money Mom, When your screenshot popped up with you in the front yard, I thought you might be starting a garden in your front yard. That would save you money and help the environment.
I use to have a garden
Great video and great tips!!
Glad it was helpful!
My dryer is 34 years old, lol, so I appreciate the fact that you've kept your dryer so long too. My hubby is very handy, and he's fixed it several times. Still runs like a top. I think your channel is great, I'm very thrifty too. 😁
Amazing
Going to be moving soon & the situation means I will be starting from zero. Since that's my reality I am getting everything 2nd hand or gifted from family members. I am on a mission to eliminate plastic storage items & replace with glass. The second thing I'm doing is committing to take advantage of a stores return policy. If you shop @ Trader Joe's they will take back anything you aren't happy with, so an item I opened this morning I just don't like it so I am returning it for the $3.99 & putting that money back in my grocery budget!!
Good for you!
We really don’t to remodel, but fresh paint would be wonderful and deep cleaning.
Pulling out the carpet cleaner and doing the carpet with Odoban also made it smell new 😀
I really need to deep cleaning, or just clean, lol. I plan on painting our bathroom later this year.
I’am in Australia and we had this brand washing machine and dryer when I worked in a nursing home and it was used all day and part of the night
It must be reliable! 👍
thanks for the home tour! Your videos are always unique and helpful, too!
Glad you like them!
I love your videos ❤
Thank you
We’ve had some unusual weather this season and we’ve had to use the heater more than any year in the past.
That makes sense
Sorry you have to cut back on your budget for additional heating. I've been using a space heater in the morning. It's great that you've organized more!
I went to Wal-Mart the other day & they had some heaters on clearance! I bought 2, 1 to keep & the other to donate when winter comes around again. My church collects fans in summer & heaters in winter to distribute to those in need.
I like your green floor. White furniture would look nice , love as well not ging into dept. ❤
Yes! Thank you!
Wash clothing in cold wTer i keep things untile they die i try to maintain what i do have i dont use oven use slow cooker
Great advice!
I am very much like this, yes my home is not 'instagrammable' or a show home but it's comfortable clean and safe, that's all I need ^_^
Perfect!
I haven't lost any weight
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom Then I'm seeing the future you. Cheers.
I hate when that happens
great MM! is the Boyfriend helping out with the food budget?! i sure hope so - we can't afford any freeloaders these days budgets are too tight. young men tend to eat for two! young people these days!! can hubby take on some of the regular maintenance around the house? would be a great way to save money and help contribute toward the household budget! every little bit helps - even if it's something very basic that he could pick up off youtube. think of all the money you could save if you could off load some of these simple tasks. it's a win win.
Yes, he brings us food
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMomThat's so nice!
I donate excess non perishable food items
Great tips Dawn
Thanks so much!
Ive been doing the 1 and 5 dollar challenge. I have a lot of june and july birthdays so i don't know if im spending then or trying to go for the year. If you would want to it would be fun to see you do the challenge. Some people just do 1 dollar or just 5 dollar challenge.
fantastic
Good morning dawn am going to be on a low spend year
Good morning!
Me, too!
Weather
Definitely weather I would love to hang clothes out year round but the weather usually stops cooperating around Halloween and starts again around April
We do have a clothes line. But I do not use it often
I live in Florida, and it's so humid most of the year that the clothes would never dry. I try not to iron any more than necessary, so the dryer helps with that. I do hang a lot of clothes to dry inside either flat on a guest room bed with a ceiling fan on or in the laundry room.
Where would I go to buy a silicone mat for baking? I live in ontario. Nice home Dawn! 😊
I got mine from Amazon
Try Canadian Tire, Walmart or some grocery stores like Superstore. 🇨🇦
I got mine at Canadian Tire when they were on a good sale. I also love mine for flash freezing fruit that I find on sale.
You just reminded me to pull out MY cans of Bruce's canned yams for the local food pantry. We forgot to use them at Thanksgiving dinner 😭
Yum
I love them any time of the year with pork dishes.
@@3TXSisters Me as well! I might just keep those cans of Yams for myself....
I have a purple Christmas shirt I wear around the house if I’m not going anywhere. 😂. Isn’t that a silicone mat? I made a monthly chore calendar and it’s on my refrigerator. It helps me to not forget to do things.
I love purple
I have a purple t-shirt that is 3 sizes too big that I love to wear to clean the house, lol.
My neighbor and I trade food as well if I have something she needs, she'll give me something I need definitely keeps both of us from going to the grocery store
Fantastic
Good video
Thanks
I guess you could say that I'm saving money around the house by not doing anything! 😍 However, I did recently have to purchase a new HVAC $y$tem and had over two thou$and dollars work done on my 2004 jeep. Am comfortable with all my outdated stuff!
That is awesome!
Love that!
So you have the plumbing, gutters, big appliances, and lawn maintained/serviced regularly?
Yes, I do
Hi Dawn. Im with you on the buying things on clearance or sale. I now shop more intentially as well. Especially when it comes to clothes. I was just wanting to know how many tops and bottoms you own total not counting work clothes. Also, what do you think is a realistic number of clothing to have? Thanks.❤
I like having 20 shirts and 5 pants
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom Thank you so much Dawn! I always think I need more but I don't. I'm also an outfit repeater anyways.
You are a thoughtful person.

I’m wondering whether it might be more cost effective to do your flooring all at once as companies charge more if it’s a smaller job. If your husband will do it no problem.
