    Beautiful train! Those add-ons REALLY make a DIFFERENCE!!

    Actually Eric, the water tenders are converted UP turbine fuel tenders used by the UP heritage steam engines because trackside water towers dont exist anymore, and the tenders ensure that the engine doesnt have to stop midway through an excursion.

      @theUP844 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lucas Hagg The UP Turbine fuel tenders were originally used by various retired UP steam locomotives before they were converted for use as fuel tender for the turbines. So UP's auxiliary water tenders are actually doing what they did when they were originally built, carrying water for steam locomotives.

    Is there any videos of up locomotives with auxillary water tenders back then.

    @Eric's Trains - As usual you give a well-informed and detailed review. As far as I have seen, YOU are the best at the PRODUCT REVIEWS in this HOBBY. I have not seen better or even equivalent reviews on this hobby than the ones you present on your TH-cam channel. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

    I’m thinking Lionel should make an auxiliary water tender to go along with the new versions of the Norfolk and Western J Class engines they announced this year.

    Beautiful water tender. I got the one with the American flag. Can't figure out what is taking so long on the cabooses. Simple retread, you would think they could pop these out of the front door fairly easily.

    Great review Mr. Siegel. But worth mentioning, when Lionel put out the Visionline Challengers, the following year, they released Command water tenders for the Challengers. They produced a black UP, a Greyhound UP, and a black Clinchfield.

    It is a high price, the Legacy features are pretty minor. I'd go for a nicely made water tender that's just rolling stock for a 3rd the price. The nice thing about the O31 turn capability is you could mate ties with a Lionmaster Big Boy or Challenger and it would work just great.

  • @lindsaybryant1758
    @lindsaybryant1758 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should run it behind the UP Challenger and UP Passenger cars

    • @ApoapsisGaming
      @ApoapsisGaming 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lindsay Bryant well he has the Big Boy and the Big Boy has more power than the Challenger so he could run it behind the Big Boy with UP Passenger cars

    How about diesel fuel fired steam engine? There is one somewhere in South America if you want to ride one

    This product is great in all but there's 1 thing I'm wondering
    How are you able to activate the coupler of the water tender when attached to another legacy locomotive???????????,?,

  • @brok3nD1am0nd45
    @brok3nD1am0nd45 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These tenders were actually taken from UP’s 8,500 HP Gas Turbines before they were scrapped. Even though there are more of these Gas Turbine tenders, at least there are 2 left that were preserved, so the Turbines still live on.

    The nice thing about the yellow is you could use it as a visual breaking point between any color engine and rolling stock. For the price, I think I'd just go with passive rolling version.

    Hi Eric: A nice review all round. If I was modeling UP steam I would certainly consider getting one although I tend to agree with Signal Light Productions comments regarding price. Having all of the built-in features is a plus but I would be just as happy with one that coupled to the engine's tender and went along for the ride. The PFE reefer sounds were pretty interesting. I will be looking forward to your review on those. Thanks again, Eric.

    You know, if Lionel EVER does a new rendition of the veranda turbines they did eons ago, these water tenders would also made a beautiful addition to a lash up of the turbine unit. Easy way to have a fuel tender.

    Did you know that the 809 and 814 auxiliary tenders came from a pair of retired Union Pacific steam locomotives? Those were engines 809 and 814 (obviously), which were both 4-8-4 Northerns. FEF1's to be specific since they were part of the first batch of Northerns built for UP. And 814 still exists today. In case you want to go and see her, she can be found at the RailsWest Railroad Museun Council Bluffs, Iowa. (Thank you, rgusrail.com) It does have a Centipede tender, though, like the Big Boys, Heavy Challengers and FEF2 and FEF3 Northerns. And on a not so bright note, she doesn't look to be in very good condition... : (

    Looks nice, but I'd rather just have a plastic one with regular couplers that doesn't cost as much as a diesel locomotive.

    Well whaddya know, they did add wheel flange squeal to the cars, lol, I've been saying for years they ought to do that! It sounds so much more realistic than just the trailing cars rolling by silently.

    Nice video Eric! I love the aux. tenders from the UP! They look so gorgeous especially the "Jim Adams" car with the American Flag! Great video and great consist too with the Big Boy with the VISION Refers along with the other refers by MTH.
    P.S. Those other refers go with the MTH FEF-3 Northern set right? I would be happy to give you information about the engine if you'd like before you do a review on it. Thanks

    Hi Eric, you mentioned in this video that you were also acquiring the MTH water tender for a Big Boy. The Lionel version are sold out. Can you run the MTH tender with the Lionel Vision Line Big Boy? Thanks.

      Probably not since Legacy/TCC and MTH's DCS are different operating systems.

      Owen Landauer I prefer MTH. My Grandfather owns a lot of Lionel models but I prefer MTH. I have twin GP9 GT's made by MTH that I absolutely love.

      It's close. But I think Lionel has MTH topped. Mind you I don't have any MTH Premier locomotives. I hope to get a DCS System and some MTH models soon though.
