    I think that ice dance is particularly perfect for gender neutral sport - it's technique, connection, and partnership - it's exciting to see ice dance finding it's way to truly start celebrating "dance" as "art" and an expression of "culture" and "connection" rather than a defined and restrained social convention.

    Most beautiful and most outstanding. All my life, ALL MY LIFE I have waited for the beauty of two women skating on a national stage. Made me cry. Maybe before I die I can watch something this beautiful on live tv...maybe. A hopeless romantic lesbian can always dream.

    Okay - that was HOT!!!!!! - I'm a former figure skater - gay man. So, at least you know I'm not just drooling over woman. But I literally got chills and felt tingly watching your skate together. It was steamy. It's authentic. It was raw. It was great. Thank you!

      Hahaha I upped this because I support the concept. Dance obviously doesn't need to be restricted to one constellation. But in all honesty..as a lesbian I am drooling over Papadakis somewhat. Never seen a more graceful skater

    I knew they had planned something like this. It's beautiful to watch, the poetry, the emotion are here. So pity there is not a compétition for two women, or two men, besides the others, it would be so interesting ! I'm not queer myself, and l didn't watch this beautiful dance as " hot " but it' s only my personnal taste. Too short ,yes ! Besides, these two wonderful female ice dancers have proved previously, both, their immense talent, it's just wonderful to see them trying something else. I'm sure Guillaume Cizeron and Zachary Donahue admired it !

      Hi, you don't have to be anything particular but a human being to enjoy dance I think. This is just them practising but there is supposed to be a finished full dance coming. Hopefully it will convince ISU to allow competition to broaden. :-)
      These clips came from the instagram of a wonderful filmer and former skater himself. the name of his insta account is On Ice Perspective. He also has a channel on youtube under the same name! If you enjoy ice dance/ figure skating you should check it out..great videos on there! I don't know why he didn't post the clips there as well but I hope he WILL up the full dance.

      @@salh-salniated Actually...Hubbell is straight and Papadakis describes herself as "not quite straight but unwilling to put any particular word to it". I dare say the latter falls under "queer". Lot of gays do not consider it a slur or rude. Personally it annoys me what falls under the header these days but the word in itself .... I am not bothered.

      Just fyi..this is for them a one time thing...it's meant to demonstrate to the ISU that same sex couples can also be fun to watch, not every dance has to be about romantic love stories but that dance can express many stories and that they will hopefully follow Canadian Skating union in removing the rule that couples have to be opposite sex.
      It will also give more girls a chance to get into competitive ice dance/pair skating because generally there are way more girls than boys skating which means many girls will not find a male partner to skate with.

      @@cascade5120 That response makes no sense.
      First of all...I didn't say there wasn't more to life and skating than gender roles.
      But also...the article is pretty clear. They are developing this dance because they hope to persuade the ISU to follow Canada it changing the rules on who can skate together as at this moment the ISU says only pairs of the opposite sex can enter competitions. This rule is clearly concerned with gender roles or they wouldn't have such a rule. Much in the same way as it is fairly recent that women are allowed to wear pants rather than only the typically female gender role skirt by ISU rules.

    It is just cool. Never thought that: 1. Two girls on the ice would look better, than a girl and a guy; 2. That Gaby skates at least as good or even better than Maddison. I mean everybody was always criticising Gaby, that she is slow, cannot skate and that Cizeron is far better skater, than Gaby.

    • @reddragonready
      @reddragonready  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      First of all...not "everybody"..just a few haters. And second professional commentators simply said Cizeron is uncommonly good for a male skater in that discipline. That by no means is the same as saying Papadakis is a bad skater. Couples are both judged. If one of them would be a bad skater they would not be breaking world records 34 times

    • @a9029k
      @a9029k 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When did anyone say that about Gabby? They just talked about the fact that the team in Montreal did a good job improving her skills to bring her up to Guillaume’s level rather than just trying to hide her flaws like they had to do earlier on. Guillaume is the greatest male ice dancer of all time- any partner would struggle to match him. Maddy was the stronger skater in her partnership with Zach so the issue was always how to keep her from appearing to overpower Zach. But anyway this video is useless for comparing the skating skills of these ladies.. obviously they are going to skate at the same speed since they are doing a routine together…

  • @xmyza
    @xmyza 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Cizeron is a much better partner. Why the change?

    • @reddragonready
      @reddragonready  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's all explained in the article. The link to that is in the describtion box. Madison has retired officially. Papadakis and Cizeron are skating together in ice shows. This is just a one time thing as a demo..and because they are best friends and always thought it would be fun to skate together once. Basically they want to demonstrate how it can also be fun to watch two women skate together. For one because there is a huge shartage of male partners. There are way more girls wanting to skate competitively in ice dance than there are boys. They think it would be good if these girls could still skate competitively by forming girl girl pairs. Right now a lot of girls give up on that dream when they can't find a male partner.

    This is how sport dies... with thunderous applause.

    • @reddragonready
      @reddragonready  ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Can you explain how and why exactly? What is the scenario you envision? Seeing as there are already sports where you have same sex team ups..like doubles tennis, synchronised swimming. There are also same sex team ups involved in many forms of dance.
      I am really interested to hear your scenario seeing as you are not alone in that claim. How do you think this will cause the "death" of the sport?

    • @dimt2615
      @dimt2615 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reddragonready Men swimmers are faster than female swimmers. Ice Dancing is more than just dancing, it is more than just art. Ice dancing is a sport. With new rule changes men/men couples would beat women/women couples no matter what. That also makes a smaller pool of men/women couples to choose from. Thus making the sport harder for everyone, and less relatable for the vast majority of viewers. This isn't gonna grow the sport. Only shrink it.

    • @reddragonready
      @reddragonready  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@dimt2615 I am guessing you don't actually know anything about ice dance and are only responding to the rule change itself? Yes Ice Dance is a sport but it is judged partly by very set rules on technical elements ( many of which the female partner has to execute to the same degree as the male. Some indeed one needs to be stronger than the other but women can be strong enough to execute them..with training.Lifts for instance. I knew at least 2 women in my life time who could pick me up and carry me up a pair of stairs they weren't very trained..didn't play sports .and I am 1,65 weighing at that time 46 kilograms) and the other part goes to artistic aspects. So no, no way would m/m pair beat f/f pair "no matter what". This particular argument of yours is a fail. Do you have any other arguments why it would be the end of ice dance as a sport?

    • @dimt2615
      @dimt2615 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@reddragonready Why are you assuming that I know nothing about ice dance? Is it because I have a different opinion than you? I could be Maxim Shabalin for all you know, or perhaps I am Elizabeth Coates? Point is that no matter what men will always be stronger and faster than women (wow yo got carried up some stairs😮 that's so amazing). And btw most men ice dancers have better edges than women ice dancers.

    • @reddragonready
      @reddragonready  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@dimt2615 I based my assumption on the fact that you weren't, and it seems still aren't, aware of how big a part of the scoring , how much weight in ice dance goes to artistic elements . Elements which are not dependent on superior strength of men. It is the difference between ice dance and pair skating.
      As for your remark regarding edges..this is a matter of training. Not physical strength.
      (As far as I know Papadakis.. a woman... is know for excellence in that specific area btw.)
      Whether it is correct more men than women do well in this area..I wouldn't know but it sounds like the kind of prejudicial statement you have no data to back up with? If you DO have such data you are welcome to post a link or direction to said data.
      My point regarding being lifted upstairs went to the fact that women CAN lift women. Which is the relevant point here regarding ice dance.
      Your sole argument still seems to be men are stronger than women. A fact nobody with an ounce of sense will dispute.
      But as I pointed out...in ice dance this difference would not automatically lead to a win for male/male pairs.
      (This is demonstrated for instance in the Men's figure skating competitions where men with more strength do not always beat men with slightly lesser strength but more artistic ability.)
      In ice dance demonstrations of strength are limited by the rules and artistic interpretation weighs heavier than in pair or solo skating.
      As I argued before...superior male strength is not an argument for your claim this proposed change in rules would end ice dance as a sport. I asked if you had any other argument for your proposition..looks like you don't?
      Finally I'd say if the superior strength of men would be the end all, be all of "sport" I suppose you would claim no all female sport is really sport?
