I'd like to point out that skinning rabbits is, in fact, completely accurate in the game. For reasonably small rabbits, that is: split the skin between head and neck, grab firmly, pull fast and hard. Abracadabra!
16:50 "Arthur keeps a diary in cursive!" Everybody wrote in cursive back then. There wasn't really any 'non cursive' writing until block printing since the romans, and even then it was hundreds of years before people actually started writing in 'printed' letters, because everybody wrote with quills, and a quill didn't stop dripping ink just because you picked it up from the page.
I agree it's not a perfect game, but I honestly did not care at all for its flaws. I know only few games, if any, that made me immerse myself in it like RDR 2 did. The beauty was that you could pretty much make Arthur be whoever you wanted. In my gameplay, he was a morally challenged guy. For his family, his gang, he would go through hell and back, commit crimes and such. Every day, he would go hunt, bring food so little Jack could sleep with his belly full. And outside of the gang... he was a hero that helped others. He was a bounty hunter that brought many to justice. Or you could make him into a villain, who took whatever he wanted and shared nothing. A desperado.
I think scoring is and should be based on certain genre/complexity and RDR2 is definitely 100/100 compared to it's peers, if someone would improve on the flaws stated in the video, then the score could and should be dropped to 85/100.

Near the end of the game, I had an optional random dialogue scene w Beth where Arthur confesses that he does things and kills people and animals and he doesn’t know why. I’ve honestly never seen this in a game before and it’s an interesting way of the game acknowledging all the random murder and destruction the player causes over the course of the game in the open world, if you choose to play the game that way that is.
Here is an interesting point of view to add to this: The roleplaying servers aspect. Red dead's massive animation and everyday actions range, and quality, has enhanced numerous mod based roleplaying servers to an entirely new level, to the point where a substantial amount of the moments you can live in them are like straight up taken from a movie. They allow you to perform a character in such a complete manner that you feel like you are fusing with the environment and the other player's storyes. The extra animations, the abundance of mundane details, the wide range of clothing and everyday tasks you can partake on, even the use of mail to contact other players in multiplayer... it all contributes to creating an incredible atmosphere where people can bring the best of their own performances and create a cinematic experience right on the go.
I really wish more content creators would take on your stance on videos anytime some TH-camr video gets demonetized they just remove it and that's it video is gone for good. But you you leave the original up and just remaster it so it is monetized. I think TES3: Morrowind would make a great Nightmare video. It's an incredible game, but it also absolutely refuses to help you in any way. Most everything will try to kill you, and even the things that don't still think that you're scum. There's no quest markers, and NPCs will even give you mistaken directions to find things. I'm playing this for the first time, about 70% complete. It's a masterpiece. It wouldn't work if the story missions were open ended or didn't create very obvious set pieces by means of prompts because it's a cinematic story game. However it's realism makes it an RPG when not in missions. The 2 don't gel well that's for sure. I binge on a few missions in row to make some story continuity. You really hit the nail on the head on why Rockstar games feel so dead to me. They might have huge beautiful and intricately crafted worlds but they might as well not do for how much it impacts the gameplay. Every single mission in these games could be set in a linear world with no issue since you never really utilize the fact that it's open world, you don't even do as much as take a shortcut in the chases and infact you are forbidden from ever doing so because the mission fails if you loose sight for like ten seconds. The world is basically just set dressing since there aren't really any systems that matter or do anything, the only mechanic they have is getting chased by the cops. So usually these games are the most fun when you're just free roaming but for some reason they gate content behind the missions and that's literally the only reason anyone ever plays. Because you very quickly become painfully aware that as much as these games tend to be mechanically excellent their writing is terrible, I can't speak for Read Dead, but GTA V has some of the most shallow and grating writing of any game. It's trying so depserately to be topical and shocking but is so scared of taking any kind of stand that it feels like South Park.

hand to hand combat can actually be very complex in rdr2, unfortunately the game just doesn't teach you how to do anything other than spam the "hit" key. you can do a variety of moves that change depending on what your opponent is doing at the time, all by using the move keys while you press the attack key; your orientations to each other also affect the moves you can do. if you know what you're doing you can have a really fun and engaging fight. but the game doesn't tell you that
@@EddieTheH ooh yeah my bad, please accept my deepest apologies, it also tells you you can block. spamming buttons does not make the tutorials go away, they only go away once you do the action you're supposed to do.
gotta say, love the cut between seeing the "color correcting" still image then very soon after showing us the footage where you massacre the set-up table. great surprise for those of us that didn't watch the original upload.
Im so glad you expressed this because i thought this game was gorgeous but i COULDN'T stand playing it! All actions felt like they were in molasses & made for a 5 yr old. I got so annoyed i returned it half way through because the gameplay bored me but i was so frustrated because it had so much potential if the devs just took in consideration of fun gameplay mechanics, movement, freedom, exploration, just the entire gameplay loop made me fall asleep mad everytime. It could be so much better. I like red dead Revolver so much more. Red dead redemption also was much better. Im normally very picky about if i like a fantasy RPG game but "The Witcher 3" captivated me so much! I loved that you play a "medieval crime scene forensic evidence investigator" and how you explore, and how things unfold as you organically unfold. It only points you towards the main story but there is what seems like endless amounts of side discoveries & missions you find if you are willing to go looking. The world feels more lived in & like there is more unknown secrets to find, rules to break. Where RDR2 auto fails you anytime you slightly stray away from their "handholding mission directions" and that feels awful. Especially when you add with how slow, required, and necessary every little thing is.. during these long spaced out missions eith terrible save points, ways to use your inventory at campfires. Ugh. Im getting mad just thinking about it again. (I wish it could have been something like "The BEST BOW 🏹 HUNTING GAME EVER MADE") but it didn't focus on the right things even tho they built great stuff..
that ending diary joke was wonderful. i dont know how you manage to make every single joke incredibly funny and at the farthest possible projection. like in the HL:A video, your monaco joke, or the boss cursing joke ("HE DOES NOW." was such a funny delivery)
You dont actually need to use the Batman Vision to track animals. You can follow their tracks, especially in snow or mud. You *literally* showed that. Game just tells you to use Smell-o-Vision though.
It took me this long to realise that at some point Matt's suspenders disappear when he's taking off the vest. I don't know why I felt the need to point this out but I think it's mostly because I'm jealous of the cowboy outfit.
This is unquestionably the best video you have ever made. I'm fairly sure it's the first one I discovered you with. Anyway, I have watched the original video at least 15 times so here's at least one more. Thank you!
Arguably the best TH-cam channel content! I love your channel and have been rewatching all your videos for the (idk how many times now) time. Thanks for your effort you put into your videos! It shows and it’s amazing. I love your editing comedy you use and it fits very well. Have a good one 😊
I started playing Red Dead 2 recently, and I've been blown away (in a bad way) by a lot of things. How inconsistent the tone is, the very specific way the missions need to be completed otherwise they fail, the level of detail that chokes the gameplay to remove as much fun as possible and the strange noises my PS4 makes trying to comprehend the garbage I shoved inside it. So, yeah, 10/10 seems legit. If it was April Fools day. The prioritisation of game elements were clearly misguided. The attention to detail is amazing, the writing is excellent, the gameplay is covered in enough horse manure to fertilize a field. I feel really bad for the people that worked so hard just for the game to fall on its face harder than when my horse forgets how to jump over a small obstacle.
Two of my favorite things RDR and UpIsNotJump going on for a while about a lot of details my zombie brain doesn't always think about, unless I'm on one of my "everything is in the matrix" mindset where I try to wake NPCs up to the mechanics of the games that hold them in place, wasting hours trying to control things and cause lots of chaos.. Entertaining as always! 🤠
its funny how almost 5 years have passed and its still the best looking game ever, almost like this game is so good its made the whole industry go backwards, like look at starfield or redfall for example they look like 2010 games
I would love for you to do a vid for HIFI RUSH! you havent touched on a unique rhythm game like this tbh. Your video on Beat saber was amazing and I was wondering if you can continue to bring that sort of quality and humor into another rhythm game. A more unique one at that! Been insanely busy lately, had this in 'watch later' for ages. But later has finally arrived. I never get tired of your reviews, it's like Family Guy after they stumbled through the first season... you never knew when a cutaway joke was going to...slap postage stamp onto fish!
Anyway, in the theatre you can see a segment talking about what happened in the region of the whispering trees, where you can hear the same voices from the theatre story through the woods at night. There are a lot of small and not so small secrets to unveil!
I remember when I first played this and thinking this was as realistic and beautiful a game could look and behave. I’ve recently played the last of us 2 and have been playing death stranding directors cut and it’s insane that looking back at this I can notice their limitations and the shortcuts they had to take for this game both visually and with the games physics. It’s so amazing how even today their is noticeable improvement in under 10 years
The biggest problem I had with RDR2 was that it was so 'immersive' that it deconstructed and ruined all the fun of being a cowboy. You can't really run around doing whatever you want because there are real consequences for screwing up and that's about as antithetical to making a Rockstar sandbox game as it gets.
My thought pretty much exactly. The free roaming in the open world didnt really match the story. It never does in a rockstar game. Even though it was hilarious to see Arthur preach Dutch about killing innocent people in some of the cut scenes when you have had Arthur kill more innocent people in one play session than the whole gang combined, rockstar should still choose a path. It seems now more than ever after GTA 5 and RDR 2 that Rockstar wants to make these interactive movies with a clearly defined story path but dont want to let go the thing that made the old GTA games famous. The mayhem! This could have easily been fixed in RDR 2 by making the morality system influence your progress ability. If you go all psycho you would have to make up for it or pay the bounty before you can progress the story. Instead of just some random characters just telling you to stop killing innocent people. But then again the story path isnt that well refined either. Story missions too often entail you killing tons of people/lawmen but that doesnt stop you from returning to that place in the future. You can still easily roam the streets of St. Denis even after you murder half the police force during that trolley station robbery. In fact the story requires you to return there. Rockstart should make up their minds and make a linear narrative driven game or a open world RPG (lite) with some consequences. I think should be the fírst option because how rigid the mission design already is. As for the "realism"... Jesus christ! Do we need to see the god damn skinning animation every time?! And who ever though up that bathing "minigame" should burn in hell! And why even bother adding an "special bath option" when the game is otherwise so prudish. Also I'm not so impressed with rockstars writing as many are. As video games they are very well writen and there are some great characters here and there. But the main stories in their games are very predictable and rely heavily on cliches lifted from crime or western movies. And all too often they seem to highlight the upcoming story beats in the same way it does mission objectives. If you pay attantion I mean. I didnt even know that RDR 2 was prequel because I havent played the RDR but I could still see where it's headed from the start and had zero surprises during the story.
honestly, i still remember games ending like i finished it yesterday, and its so heart tearing on meta level my guy arthur dying from pneumonia, and he's coughing all the time in the end was so real i even stopped smoking to refill deadeye his last words to john about leveng fair life just to know what terrible fate awaits him eventualy but the momet that spawns waterfall in my eyes was when arthur released my hourse which ive grown quite attached to, my legendary white baby paper butt slapped so she run far away from bullets... man
I remembered my bad habit of watching the gps more than the landscape in RDR1 and was glad to find that RDR2 has an option to replace it with a compass with an arrow showing you the marked direction and nothing more. I generally tend to turn off the GPS in anything else than Truck Simulator
The bit at 0:50, as someone who deals with users, if anything GTA5 isn't hand holdy enough for the average window licking enthusiast. Personally completely agree it's prompts that are not needed at all but good gods some people make me question if they should have survived childhood.

hand to hand combat can actually be very complex in rdr2, unfortunately the game just doesn't teach you how to do anything other than spam the "hit" key. you can do a variety of moves that change depending on what your opponent is doing at the time, all by using the move keys while you press the attack key; your orientations to each other also affect the moves you can do. if you know what you're doing you can have a really fun and engaging fight.
but the game doesn't tell you that
The game absolutely does tell you that, perhaps you spammed a button and skipped past that part?
@@EddieTheH ooh yeah my bad, please accept my deepest apologies, it also tells you you can block. spamming buttons does not make the tutorials go away, they only go away once you do the action you're supposed to do.
If you go with a knife to a guy on a horse, Arthur first stabs him then pulls him off the horse. Also, pushing people's head onto stuff is underrated.
I love how UpisnotJump is so incredibly British, he still just looks like a British guy in a cowboy getup. Please don't ever change. ❤️
gotta say, love the cut between seeing the "color correcting" still image then very soon after showing us the footage where you massacre the set-up table. great surprise for those of us that didn't watch the original upload.
I like how he even dressed for the part addressing the mistakes in the original, that's commitment.
For a second I forgot this video already existed. I can rewatch your videos without a sign of stopping man
Im so glad you expressed this because i thought this game was gorgeous but i COULDN'T stand playing it!
But you still have to use it since tracking for whatever reason has a timer.
Pffff.... He didn't *literally* show that. He *metaphorically* showed it. Or maybe he *allegorically* showed it.
I'm happy that you re uploaded this video became I only got around to playing RD2 a few months ago :D
A remaster of a great video of a great game?! Sure why the hell not, I’ll watch it again (it’s been years).
Yee-haw
Literally put the original on my watch later yesterday to rewatch it and then the gods of UpIsNotJump blessed me with this
It took me this long to realise that at some point Matt's suspenders disappear when he's taking off the vest.
Thank you!
I personally, Mr Jump, thought the theatre was fucking sublime.
Arguably the best TH-cam channel content! I love your channel and have been rewatching all your videos for the (idk how many times now) time. Thanks for your effort you put into your videos! It shows and it’s amazing. I love your editing comedy you use and it fits very well. Have a good one 😊
I found this channel a few weeks ago and ive never laughed so hard in my life.
You are entertaining. Thank you. I like the theatre idea I usually watch things like that in detailed game worlds.
Reupload? Sounds good, now I can justify watching this video for the 14th time without seeming insane
Your videos are the greatest. I will happily watch a reupload...plus I have ADHD so I could watch it several times and it's all new to me.
I feel really bad for the people that worked so hard just for the game to fall on its face harder than when my horse forgets how to jump over a small obstacle.
this video made me realize that watching any old upisnotjump video now will be a tinge bittersweet any time I reach a Khajit intermission
This is a certified downisjump classic
Two of my favorite things RDR and UpIsNotJump going on for a while about a lot of details my zombie brain doesn't always think about, unless I'm on one of my "everything is in the matrix" mindset where I try to wake NPCs up to the mechanics of the games that hold them in place, wasting hours trying to control things and cause lots of chaos.. Entertaining as always! 🤠
its funny how almost 5 years have passed and its still the best looking game ever, almost like this game is so good its made the whole industry go backwards, like look at starfield or redfall for example they look like 2010 games
Any upload from UpisNotJump is a treat
I would love for you to do a vid for HIFI RUSH! you havent touched on a unique rhythm game like this tbh. Your video on Beat saber was amazing and I was wondering if you can continue to bring that sort of quality and humor into another rhythm game. A more unique one at that! Loving your videos tho professor! Cheers!
I love that game! It wont be a nightmare vid tho
how unique is it?
Been insanely busy lately, had this in 'watch later' for ages. But later has finally arrived. I never get tired of your reviews, it's like Family Guy after they stumbled through the first season... you never knew when a cutaway joke was going to...slap postage stamp onto fish!
Two UpisnotJump videos in as many weeks?! How did we get so lucky?
Seeing sid in this video brought a smile to my face, he wont be forgotten.
You’re one of the few people on this platform who actually cares about what they put out and I love you for that
the biggest problem with the "perfection" of the game is that it makes all the other imperfections stick out like sore thumbs
My favourite part of Red Dead Redemption II is when Red Dead says: "This is.... My redemption, Two."
It’s so amazing how even today their is noticeable improvement in under 10 years
There are actually less than 2 years between RDR 2 and LoU 2
@@davidvincent380 😵💫 ig it makes sense as a smaller game that they could be more detailed
The best thing about remasters is getting to see Khajit again. What a wonderful cat.
1:20 this man is so good at explaining mission so well he could speedrun a movie in 10 minutes
RDR2 is a 2018 timeless classic
The biggest problem I had with RDR2 was that it was so 'immersive' that it deconstructed and ruined all the fun of being a cowboy. You can't really run around doing whatever you want because there are real consequences for screwing up and that's about as antithetical to making a Rockstar sandbox game as it gets.
Did.....Did you just remaster a video? You're wonderful.
Adorable. The new music really makes it.
1:36 I like what you did with the FTL soundtrack there
When I see an upload from here, i just cant wait to see the entourage of props
Always SO excited to see a new upload! Huge fan
awwww
love the sid moments
way 2 keep him live in our hearts
gr8 vid!
as always
its always a joy to see this guy upload a video-- even if it's one i've already seen lmao
I like how you do an intro and then proceed to throw as much information as possible.
I’m on the verge of a stroke right now.
Your Fallout 4 VR Video is one of my favorite TH-cam video of all time, definitely a fan :)
honestly, i still remember games ending like i finished it yesterday, and its so heart tearing on meta level
my guy arthur dying from pneumonia, and he's coughing all the time in the end was so real i even stopped smoking to refill deadeye
his last words to john about leveng fair life just to know what terrible fate awaits him eventualy
but the momet that spawns waterfall in my eyes was when arthur released my hourse which ive grown quite attached to, my legendary white baby paper butt slapped so she run far away from bullets... man
I remembered my bad habit of watching the gps more than the landscape in RDR1 and was glad to find that RDR2 has an option to replace it with a compass with an arrow showing you the marked direction and nothing more.
Reuploads are an absolute nightmare, 10/10 would watch again.
Jokes aside, you have _most certainly_ earned the 6:17 bit. outstanding quality in your vids. 👍
cheers, man. been here since the Elite Dangerous vid.
A remaster of the first Upisnotjump video I ever watched? Yummy
I'm old enough to remember when this was one of the biggest and most complex video up worked on
the name UpIsNotJump blew my mind 🤯 subscribed
R.I.P Sid, we will miss all of you sections in videos, and we will remember you every time we get a mysteriously unprotected fish in the mail.
stop being a comedical genius
I don't know if thats the word but damn, all you videos make me die of laughter
A video remaster I'm more than content to rewatch again
(I rewatched the original vid alot anyways)
You know what would make this a 11/10 video? A stirring rendition of "Take Me Home (Country Roads)."
Rewatching old vids becuase we love your content.
Also 🥰 Sid
Funny that this is remade right as I started playing through rdr2 again. I'm enjoying revisiting the game and you highlight every like and dislike I have perfectly!
do one on star citizen it definitely wont be a nightmare, also great vid! always glad to see you come up in my feed
I miss the fallout 3 original video. Sad and unfair you keep getting demonetized. Love your content. One of the few things a watch that genuinely make me laugh. Keep up with the awesome content!!
It's back up now! A short blood scene had to be cut out, but the original is the only version up :D
