    The blooming of this flower is amazing but what I saw the rest of the plants doing was incredible, they move, they clearly show they are alive and growing. I loved to see these beautiful live greenery moving gracefully. Nature is amazing.

      Question. We’re the rest of the plants moving away or towards the cadaver flower?

    I loved seeing the leaves of the plant to the top left corner opening up and closing every 24 hours. Speeding it up it kinda looks like breathing - lungs expanding and shrinking. Nature is beautiful in how you can see the same patterns repeated in everything, including us humans!

    A question regarding the plants in the background: Some of them seem to go limp at night and the the leaves fan back out around sunrise. I know a fair bit about what's going on inside the leaf cells around sunrise, but I've never heard anything about leaves that droop at night. What's going on with that?

    I'm just curious what the umbrella was for ? Also, I like the large round globe light in the background. It looks like a full moon rising. That's a nice touch in the night time video of this plant blooming.

    • @chicagobotanicgarden
      @chicagobotanicgarden  8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      The umbrella was to protect the plant from the sun. These plants grow natively in the understory of trees in a tropical forest.

    • @djg5950
      @djg5950 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ok. Thanks for answering. I thought that was what it was for but wasn't sure. Didn't think about it growing in a dense tropical area and not being in direct sunlight. It would probably get sunburned quite easily if in full sun. BTW, I came here because the weather channel is live on FB with a Corpse flower blooming and was curious about where it was from. Found that answer on TH-cam: Indonesia. Quite a few years ago (maybe 5 or 6 ?) they had one blooming on display at the Laconia, NH fire department that a local doctor grew and shared with the public when it bloomed.
