    About the sound, the prop tips never left the sound barrier, they were constant speed and always producing sound. Also, it wasn’t as much that it caused people to soil themselves, it was MUCH worse. The sound killed wildlife and caused seizures in ground crews.

  • @undeniablelogic1963
    @undeniablelogic1963 ปีที่แล้ว +75

    If I recall correctly, the propeller tips spun fast enough to continuously break the sound barrier, thus the noise.
    Edit: Well he said it later in the video haha. I was a bit too early.

    the sound of supersonic isn't from passing through the sound barrier, at any point a body is traveling at a supersonic speed it will produce the 'boom'.

    The Thunderscreech was the XF-84H. The G variant was a bomber variant, modified with aerial refuelling and a nuclear bomb.

    • @enderplant
      @enderplant ปีที่แล้ว +8

      you know it involves 1950s when they slap "I can hold a nuclear bomb!" sticker on the side of it

  • @kabob0077
    @kabob0077 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Okay, so coming back from Chubby Electron, I mean Plump Proton, I mean the Fat Electricians video on the Thunderscreech to refresh my memory of some facts about it it made 900 sonic booms per second and sent one of the engineers into a seizure, the only things louder than it were a nuclear detonation or a volcanic eruption, it knocked one of the mechanics unconscious, and made everyone near it experience nausea, headaches, and vomiting.
    Ya know why we don't have any up-close audio of this monster of a plane? It destroyed _any_ microphone that was anywhere near it.

      @@roaling2 why THE HELL do you think when you go out in the sun you feel warmth?
      The sun emits all kinds of wavelengths, including both UV and IR
      Also the sun is a very hot object.

    3:57 IIRC it did make people sick when hearing it so if someone had a lesser... Constitution it's probable that something like that _could_ theoretically happen.

    I think your patreon should be a thing where you add more stuff to what you build, whether it be adding more design complexities, improving design, etc.
    More content is always nice if you do a patreon type thing, and what you suggested is close enough to what I usually envision creators doing with patreon.
    Biggest thing is just figuring out a semi-consistent "extra" content type that works for you.
    Best of luck, stumbled upon you, maybe again in the future.
    Stay frosty.

    the thunderscreech's development was to push a prop plane past mach 1 while still being a carrier plane that could take off without the catapult, jet technology at the time couldn't allow a plane to take off without the catapult so the navy ordered the construction of the thunderscreech

    This might be an interesting idea but since you made an Australian tank in Sprocket, how about an Australian plane? Maybe based of the CAC CA-23 which was an experimental cold war jet or maybe something similar to the CA-15 which was a late war experimental piston engine aircraft. Also love these videos, i'm so glad I came across your channel.

    New Year, New Suggestion. (2)
    What if the F-117 had remained in service and continued to receive upgrades... Or more specifiaclly, what would an F/A-117C Look like.
    Throughout the 90's various upgrades were proposed for the, now legendary, F-117A 'Night Hawk', including redesigns for the tail, cockpit and wings, as well as the potential inclusion of after-burning engines.
    While neither the F-117N or B variants were pursued due to the upcoming Advanced Tactical Fighter and Joint Strike Fighter programs, that would result in the 'Raptor' and 'Lightning II' respectively, I do think many of the unofficial depictions of F-117B or A/F-117x possess an odd, retro-futuristic charm.
