I really liked Clash of Cultures. We'll be reviewing Rise of Empires before too long, which I liked as well. But Clash of Cultures may be my favorite overall Civ game that I've played.
I guess it depends on how we're defining a civ-building game. If broadly, I guess I'd say TI3. I like eclipse a lot, but it feels more like an straight economic game to me, with a few Civ conventions thrown in. I think id rate Clash of Cultures higher than Eclipse, but id have to think about it more.
The Discriminating Gamer I've been hemming and hawing for a while now, got some more cash to feed my habit, and I want something bigger, like a 4x. I love exploration, civ-building, and just that "big" feel in a game. I have been torn between Eclipse and Clash of Cultures for a while now (I suspect at some point to own both). It sounds like, though, Clash of Cultures might be the better choice. Would you agree? How does it do at 2p? Also, some of the people I play with are conflict-averse, is this simply not a game for them, or is that something that can be played without?
Adam Maust All of my games of Clash have been 4 players, so I can't speak to two players. You could play this game without attacking neighbors, theoretically, but really that's a big part of the game. It's about expansion, and there is only so much room. Also, some cards come up that require you to screw over another player from time to time. I like Eclipse a lot, but it really feels more like an economic eurogame with a space theme than a true 4x to me. I'm sure others would disagree. Still, for grand, sweeping, epic adventures, the greatest of the great remains TI3.
Nice review, but i doubt I could play this game with my gaming group so maybe later.
I think I read all the books in your shelf.
How would you Rate and Compare this game, Clash of Culture with the Expansion V.S. Through the Ages, a New story of Civilization??
I have not played with the expansion, nor have I played Through the Ages. Sorry.
Is this better than Civ New Dawn? I play Civ New Dawn with the Exp right now
Civ New Dawn is great, but I may side with Clash of Cultures: Monumental Edition. Check out my review for that one.
Any word on whether or not the rights have been picked up by another company?
I haven't heard.
Wizkids are releasing a Monumental Edition which would include the base game + 2 expansions.
The expansion makes this game amazing.. Super hard to find and I paid way too much for it..
Wizkids is releasing a deluxe version of this game with the expansion included.
Q: In terms of 'civ-building', which game would you most likely recommend?

The Discriminating Gamer Really?! Even more than Eclipse? :)
