Well, Vintage IS the quality. I don’t see anything as being “lower quality”, though. The story I read about this appearance was that Neil wasn’t supposed to go on for another half an hour but the sports game, soccer I believe, ended early and they had to rush him out on stage and they started the music before he could get out there for the beginning of “Done too Soon”! It was a live show that showed sports and entertainment ! Neil handled it like any good professional would and just picked the song up where he need to ! Great to see the whole performance! ❤️💎❤️💎❤️💎❤️
I had seen a short clip of the same performance and couldn't figure out why he picked it up there so it figures. The raw nature of these performances without the technical sound wizardry of later years to add polish is what makes them special.
No, he was rushed out for Cracklin’ Rosie, I believe. French TV was not that great back then. I am very sorry he did not continue his career in France.
Never seen this performance before and indeed in the year of Hot August Night. Singing live with the studio tape, this is a great treasure. Love the interview also, never seen so brief answers being translated so long😉

I can well imagine that ND became increasingly annoyed during this performance. However, he reacted very professionally. He couldn't know at that time that this recording would still be one of the best performances ever for his fans 50 years later. There have been sensational concerts and performances then, but this youthful charm has given way to a more adult ND. of course, no less interesting!
This and the BBC In concert film seem to be the only surviving video records of Neil Diamond at his artistic peak. Such a crying shame as both of these are subdued appearances on TV compared to the ferocious intensity of his rock concerts that cemented his live reputation culminating in the Hot August Night shows. The Neil Diamond that returned to touring in the late seventies was a completely different and far more mellow MOR artist.
I agree 100%. After the break from 1972 to 1976, Neil Diamond has been another musician. You can say he lost his "innocence". The casual ease of the young years. Which, of course, is quite natural. It would have been bad if he had not developed in the 4 years. And Neil Diamond also made sensational music afterwards and gave outstanding concerts. But this time around 1970 was in my opinion his most touching.

I saw him in 2017 one of the last shows he did in Louisville Ky. He was as awesome as ever!
