I was born and raised in Zamboanga City (Asia's Latin City) and Badjao is one of the tribes living there. Badjao or Badjau is an exonym historically known as boat-dwellers or people of the sea. They're commonly referred to as "sea nomads" or "sea gypsies" because they live and make money out of fishing in the coastal areas. For centuries, this indigenous group have been living in the waters of Sulu and Celebes sea. Due to the nature of their living condition and livelihood, they developed the ability to adapt oxygen deficiency (hypoxia tolerance) and the researchers found a unique gene associated with spleen size which serves as an evidence that their ability is a genetic adaptation caused by natural selection. This evolutionary process is an example of population-level adaptation that evolved in response to a cultural practice. If they keep the same lifestyle for many centuries, they will keep evolving and possibly become a new human specie. Evolution is really mind-blowing. How amazing!
there is misinformation in the video, ther is two tribe with almost similar name but with the different uniqueness.. Bajau tribe (live in the boat cruising the asean sea) and the Bajo tribe (naturally diver tribe who living in the village above the sea)
Its just amazing that we keep evolving based on our environment, lifestyle and cultures. But tourism and overfishing takes a big toll on the environment and sea life
Greetings from Indonesia. Great reactions, guys. Keep up the good work.
