Our coastal fishing areas are being taken and destroyed by Chinese fish mill factories, Kartong, Gunjur, and sanyang. the government, departments, Fisheries and Trade are In cohort. It’s very sad our own government is not listening to the predicaments of the Gambians. Brother, you have spoken well. Fish used to be very cheap and affordable source of protein for the poor who cannot afford meat every now and then. the bonga fish/yellowtail mullet fish ( Chaloo) was once upon the time most cheapest fish and affordable. Now the price is skyrocketing due to presence of the fish mill factories. Over our fish stocks is depleting by foreign trawlers, exacerbated by the presence of these Chinese fish mill factories. Someone built that market pier and road there in Bakau. After it was built, they all used it, but no one did any repairs to any of the facilities. Not told in this story is who built the place and why any of these people complaining about the facilities don't perform the required maintenance so that it is attractive for a fishing fleet to land fish and they don't have to depend on the Chinese.
