- If you want to work in the UK, you'll need a National Insurance Number (or NI Number) Here's everything you need to know about getting your NI number!
As an anxious introverted expat, I was so stressed about my NI number before starting my new job in the UK - thankfully it's a pretty easy process and with these tips, it'll be totally painless for you!
You need a NI number to ensure your National Insurance contributions and tax are recorded against your name only. It's made up of letters and numbers and is similar to a Canadian Social Insurance Number.

If I'm an eu citizen but I dont have a visa,I didn't applied for a eu settlement scheme can I still apply for NI?
You can apply for an NI number if you live in the UK, have the right to work in the UK and/or are working, looking for work or have an offer to start work. You don't need a NI number if you are trying to apply for the EU Settlement Scheme.

It depends who you open an account with! If they require a UK address, you'll need to wait until you move - but not all need that!
