That's a lot of good points and some I had never thought of. Bulk ordered some last year. Turns out when you have extra warmers you have extra friends.😊😊 My son is my biggest culprit!! Take care and thanks for another informational video. Al
I just learned the ziploc bag hack this week. Opened some warmers on Tuesday, bagged them up after riding, then re-opened them on Saturday and they still worked!
Hot Hands - I thought they were rubbish and how could they work but in the coldest of Norway in a race this last year in January they were amazing. I couldn’t believe it. They don’t look like they work but they are absolutely my go to.
Just tested the plastic bag “switch off” of the hot hands. It works in a few minutes. I didn’t know that. Left them to heat up for 30 mins and placed them in a zip bag, squashed the air out and a few minutes they were cold. Will try a restart in a week.
Very good info! I am now carrying a small ziplock bag in my jacket pocket to store my hand warmers when I finish cold weather activities. I had no idea they were reusable.
Very helpful tips, especially keeping them at “room temp.” I typically keep them simply in my frame bag… Using in the food bag is an excellent tip too. 👍
Really great ideas! I like to get the boxes of hand and toe warmers from Costco. Agree that the toe warmers don’t really get that hot in the shoes, but once I finish riding and my feet are out of my shoes they start to get pretty hot and warm me back up more quickly
Great hacks! Also check your gear, many items have pockets designed for your hand warmers. My pogies have hand warmer pockets, also gloves and hydration bladder backpacks have pockets designed specifically for hand warmers.
Great Video Alan, especially like the hydration hose hack, I frozen my hose once on a dramatic chase, was a tense process thawing it out wile smashing the pedals, this would have been a great option if I hadn’t managed to thaw under my pit. Anecdotally warning, I set fire to a motor roller razor flip phone (and my pants)!in my pocket once when in contact with a hand warm, you definitely want to insulate around electronics
The way I see it is if you go through the effort to bring them with you, the tiny bit of extra effort to pack the used ones out is nothing. I hate seeing litter on the trails. Tossing a used hand warmer on the trail is not the way to say “I was here”.
Great video / info. As a skier, hunter and former ski patroller, Hot Hands are legit! I’ve tried several packs of Yaktrax brand hand warmers, almost every one of them broke open, and it’s a mess. Stick to the Hot Hands brand! Am I supposed to insert the disclaimer?… “I’m not sponsored” 😂 I also keep several packs in my truck, in case I can be Batman in a cold weather emergency and help someone in need.
@14:20…I’ve always wanted a strip the grease from my fat bike shifter/derailleur and replace with silicone lube (garage door lube), but been too chicken to do it so far…
I stripped the grease in my shifter and replaced with Dumonde freehub oil before Iditarod - don’t be chicken 🐔!! 🤣 smooth shifting at all temps awaits :)
Another awesome video (of course) 😂! What do you think of pre-loading chronically cold areas on the body (like wrists) with a patch of moleskin to prevent skin-to-skin contact? I'd shave my shins to help keep my toes warm!!

I live in Vermont so bar-mits and hand warmers are a must, especially at my age! (68yrs)🥶

Thanks for this,Alan. With the temps up here, this winter, hand warmers will prove to be a toasty thought for my arthritic hands.

Definitely going to invest in some hand warmers. Lots of really great ideas to use them for. Thanks for the tips/tricks for using them!!
Super helpful info and ideas! I will be applying some of these ideas to my upcoming fat bike race.
Excellent video as usual!

Thanks Alan ! When done put them in a ziploc. This cuts off the o2. You can get one or two more uses this way.
Love to see the Cedaero gear! It’s an awesome company with great people!
Used several different brands. Agree 110% Hot Hands is the best !

Speaking of dropping them in the snow. How many of those do you see on the ground in the spring? Tons that’s how many. Keep track of your packs folks.

Always keep a pair in the repair kit for cold commutes !
Great video .. bravo
I always carry heated socks on epic rides. Luxury always wins for me 😂
