    As a current employee, Lowes is MISERABLE to work at. It's bleeding workers like crazy. Average tenure at the few stores I've been at has been below 2 years. A good chunk of that is horrible decision making from Ellison himself.
    Good short term results for share holders, but our ability to service customers when we are so poorly staffed will lead to long term customer abandonment. Corporate doesn't care.

      Im so glad i left lowes(cabinet specialist here). Its gotten more and more stressful. and staffing is horrible. i was paid $17/hr + a rigged bonus system. I'll go stress somewhere else for more money.. no more IRPs, no more AP4me, no more safety walks, no more customers calling with issues to complain how horrible our 3rd party delivery is. no more covering multiple departments, and no more going behind night stockers... the company is going downhill..

    It's impossible to get someone to help you at Lowes. There's usually one employee trying to handle a bunch of departments, without knowing anything about anything, except for how to sign you up for a credit card.

      You should not be asking lowes employees for advice. They worked at McDonalds yesterday. They know nothing about what they sell or how it works. There are no electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc working at Lowes. The humans are for basic grunt labor and nothing else.

    Neither Home Depot or Lowe's knows who they are selling to. They can both say selling to pros is better than selling to non-pros. But truthfully pros don't shop at Big Box Stores for their big boy orders. I personally tried shopping with both of them and they both couldn't handle it. Everything at these places takes forever to get their pro desk worker to understand what you're trying to order. Most of the time it's like they just go in circles telling you they know what you mean but they really don't. Then after hours and hours go by you end up with just some of the things you need. Pros can't waste their time with that. Realistically a lot of building products won't sell to or through HD or Lowe's. So your left with just mid-grade or low end building materials to pick from. This is fine for homeowners and people trying to make a buck in side work. These stores need to focus more on pushing savings on to all their shoppers and stop pushing their so called savings through their credit cards. Also, Lowe's needs to fire their CEO, he's costing them way to much money and is tearing this business apart from the inside out.

      I can’t say specifics because I’m pretty sure I’m still bound by my NDA even post employment, but I can guarantee you that THD makes more then 5x the money off “pros” then they do off private buyers

    • @randyrobineau2699
      @randyrobineau2699 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@arkcantoscreampsnpc7274 One of my points is that HD can't tell what they're selling or how much money is being spent by a non-pro unless that shopper is tied in with HD credit card. Example - If the so called pro spends 50-80k a year but a non-pro many spend 100k without HD even knowing because none of those purchases was with a credit card. Now if you factor in the number of non-pro shoppers vs so called pro shoppers. Also, the so called pros buys with discounts and non-pro gets nothing. I can guarantee more money is spent in HD by all the non-pro shoppers than by all the so called pros shoppers.

    • @arkcantoscreampsnpc7274
      @arkcantoscreampsnpc7274 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@randyrobineau2699 I can’t discuss the specific program they use but I can say they track all “pro” buyers through a system and all other purchases are non-pro, that’s how they get the difference in profit. I assure you that at the profit margins I saw when I worked there they are making enough money to not care about any meaningful change

      No, Home Depot and Lowe's have different owners, Marvin Ellison is the Chief Executive of Lowe's and not the Owner he also has experience at JC Penney as well, he's former Home Depot but has nothing to do with them now. Home Depot's CEO is Ted Decker, the shareholders boards and ownership structure are very much separate from Lowe's and Home Depot came about a few decades after Lowe's but really pioneered the Home Improvement store which Lowe's copied within reason. Home Depot has more stores, employees, and revenue, making it a stronger competitor. However, Lowe's has a slight edge in customer satisfaction, and it also offers more services and delivery options. In terms of selection and quality, both are comparable, but The Home Depot offers more specialized services and better discounts for contractors, giving it the edge when it comes to choosing the best big-box home improvement store. It really depends on your location and budget, but in the case of most buyers, the Home Depot would be the better choice for your home improvement needs.

    Ok Lowe’s you want the honest answer to why you are In 2nd place? It’s super easy, it’s 100% Price, I’m a diy person that will do literally everything but roofing on my home. I will go shopping at Lowe’s but only if I can’t get it at Home Depot or if it’s something super specialized, a lot of time, I seem to have better luck at Lowe’s but it’s only on random stuff that’s super specialized. regardless I’m really DIY so if it means I will save hundreds of dollars BUT I will have to figure out a way to make the cheaper thing work how I need it I will go the Home Depot way.

    I tried to order a roof from Lowe’s. Everything went ok, until scheduling delivery. I picked out the shingles I needed to do a rental I owned, the quantity and price was ok. But then the guy gave a me a phone number to schedule delivery? WTF? I was supposed to call someone and play tag as to delivery? I simply walked out, went a 1/2 mile down the road, ordered the same type of shingle, the guy there sat me down at the computer, let me pick from the available delivery slots. And I didn’t even compare prices, I walked out knowing when the delivery was scheduled, I could call my roofer guy, get it done. I have a hard time understanding how some exec oks a procedure that hands off delivery to some third party for the customer to play whack a mole. Those folks get paid to make big decisions, and that imho was a stupid decision. The exec who made that decision should be looking for another job.

    The two biggest problems I have with Lowes:
    1. The ones in my area will not custom cut lumber for you. For those DIYers like myself who do not own expensive cutting tools this is a major disadvantage. I would rather drive further to a Home Depot if I needed something to be custom cut.
    2. Lowes generally sells lumber by the unit and not by feet/inches. Meaning that if you need custom cut lumber (say 2 feet), Home Depot will charge you for that exact dimension. This saves me you a lot of money as oppose to buying extra lumber that you do not need.

In good times people spend money on extras or contractors spend the money, when things go bad, people DIY repairs as needed keeping the supplies of materials going. Simply by changing the size of packaging the same products are able to be sold at any time.

    I live in Las Vegas. I bought a house and closed in March 2020. Right before the craziness hit. While LOWES is right around the corner. Home Depot is a 5 min drive. I shop for all my paint for my house since I painted the inside of my whole house. I will say the major time was spent at lowes. I got into wood working, got a Table saw and a Miter saw in April of 2020. Now I have like so many tools from routers, drills, saw horses etc.
    When I got my table saw and miter. No one at lowes could help me with the knowledge of table saw. Since I have been doing alot of study on the subject. I went for one and got a more expensive one with a miter. I also sold three more table saw for lowes. I had other customers asking about table saws.. The guys that work there asked if I wanted a job. LoL. Understand I had never used a table saw in my life. I guess when you sell guns for a living and for the last 10 years you can sell anything.
    I think lowes has a better set up.
    What's really sad is when I got into lowes. The employees know me. lol

    As a roofing contractor, I still find it is easier to get in and out of a home depot for over a lowe's for that small pickup of materials I may need during an active job. There's usually only 1 pro checkout available at lowe's that gets stacked up. Plus the nails/screws and paint are on the other side of the store from lumber/roofing. Pro-Contracting Parking is also easier at Home Depot. It's just easier to go to a Home Depot.

From there, you can go up to replacing lighting fixtures, installing ceiling fans, replacing plumbing fixtures. Adding or modifying outdoor living spaces (decks/patios), all the way up to completely rewiring your house (if it's necessary for some reason. In my case, whoever wired this house at time of construction in 1958 thought it would be a good idea to cut all the ground wires off as they came into the outlet box, so I've got to replace 1000 ft of wiring for want of 6" of ground wire at each end).
