      Instead of labelling people who don't agree with you TERFS, why not start a discussion. Both sides could gain a better understanding and have more compassion for each other.
      I get labelled a TERF because I don't subscribe to gender ideology. This doesn't mean I don't think you shouldn't exist. I'm a woman's sex based rights activist. In order for me to be specific about what women need and want, we must be able to define what a woman is. A right like having access to female only spaces and services.
      We can't safeguard what we can't define.
      I hope this makes sense.

    Glad to see you on here again! And I'm glad you're talking about this, there's so little information about trans reproductive healthcare out there ..
    I will get a hysterectomy in the future, it's good to learn more about your experience with that, and I didn't know you could leave your cervix!
    Also I very recently started T and my gender therapists seem to leave it up to me to decide whether or not I want a hysterectomy, so I think you're right about the cancer thing not being as big of a risk as it was made out to be.
    Edit to say that I'm glad you have great bones haha

    This video was good to see. I haven't even started medical transition so if I get a hystie it won't be for years. I might also want bottom surgery, including a vaginectomy, unfortunately I can't find info on what kind of hystirectomy is required for that. Anyways, it's comforting to see trans ppl talk about procedures that I'm interested in, especially since it's often hard to find or understand info on them, idk it's just comforting to feel like there are trans ppl that I can see and know of that have had them. (:

    hey, thank you for this video. i'm only a minute or two in but a lot of what you're saying is resonating. it's occurred to me recently that i've actually got a Lot of dysphoria surrounding having a uterus/being able to get pregnant, which has definitely gone down some since ive been on T (no periods, yay!) but still isn't fully gone. so, i've been looking into a hysterectomy for sometime in the near future. this is helpful in both a "oh, this is a thing i can actually do" kind of way, and also a "okay, this is what the procedure will be like" way. thank you for this; i havent seen too many resources for trans people who've actually gotten a hysto.

    14:25 why did you keep your cervix? It seems kinda pointless tbh? To keep it after hysto I mean. It’s purpose is to keep the uterus closed during pregnancy for the most part. Also keep foreign objects out of the uterus but 🤷🏼‍♂️
    Would breakthrough bleeding or HPV be a concern for you? I’ve done some research on hysto and some people get breakthroughs when they keep their cervix. Idk exactly what happens but it mimics menstruation but it’s not as much??? Obvi still get Pap smears every year since you have a cervix but without a uterus it seems like if you develop anything cervical it’s less likely to spread to the ovaries

    • @sandcrab3188
      @sandcrab3188 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you have a vagina and cervix? If so, I’m surprised you don’t realize how the cervix supports the vagina’s structure. Reach up and touch your cervix. Now imagine instead of that, the walls of the vagina are just sewn together at the top. Removing the cervix drastically increases the risk of the vagina collapsing or prolapsing, aka turning inside out. If i had a hysterectomy, i would definitely want to keep my cervix if possible. It seems like vaginal penetration would be a lot more difficult to do safely and enjoyably if the vagina loses that much structure.

    • @sandcrab3188
      @sandcrab3188 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And if you dont currently and never have had a vagina and cervix, then explaining someone else’s anatomy to them is pretty rude. Keeping foreign objects out of the uterus and a fetus inside is not the only function of the cervix. The cervix and uterus are connected to the whole pelvic floor muscular system. The less of the uterus is removed, the easier it is for the surgeon to minimize damage to the pelvic floor. Some people who get full hysterectomies due to cervical cancer get complications like incontinence, vaginal prolapse, and organ displacement. These risks are lower the more of the organs are left in place.

      -make a mealtrain: people sign up to bring you food
      -get as much childcare as you can afford: I had my kid's other coparent be their sole caregiver for 1 week, then my mom helped so I was like 50% parenting for the next couple weeks, my kid was also in childcare 9-5 monday-friday)
      -talk to your kids about your surgery beforehand, that it's something fun and exciting for you but it means you have a big booboo and you can't do any picking them up, wrestling, etc for a little while (or explanation relevant to their age). For me I put my kid's mattress on the floor and made other modifications to our apartment so they could be more independent and I wouldn't have to lift them. Seriously do not cheat on the lifting restriction

      -remember that it may suck for a bit but it is temporary. Do as little as possible, don't worry about keeping the house clean or doing any projects, just focus on making sure you and your kids are fed and clean. Watch a lot of TV lol.
      -lastly, all the usual advice for top surgery recovery in terms of staying ahead of pain, organizing your supplies, get the special pillow, get a nice water bottle, set alarms to take Tylenol and supplements, etc.

    i'm cis but recently i've been told that my really bad cramps could be due to fibroids or endometriosis if symptoms worsen as i get older. (side note but i'm also in the same boat as never wanting to actually give birth to kids ! i decided i'd adopt when i was like 12 because i dont want to bring anyone else into this world currently). I did some surface level research about endo and fibroids and it said that one of the treatments was a hysterectomy. I saw some really worrying stuff on the first page of google but your video helped in reassuring me about the process, so thank you so much!! a bunch of my friends are trans so I will definitely point them towards this video if they ever decide they want a hysterectomy in the future. love your videos so much !!!!

    I’ve thought about getting a hysterectomy but i’ve always been put off by the top of the vagina not being connected to anything. Keeping the cervix sounds like it would make things better, but what is the cervix connected to above?
    If you feel comfortable answering i would be interested to know if it feels different. Like does your vagina feel less anchored to the organs around it? Are you worried about vaginal prolapse or anything like that?
    thanks so much for making this video, it was so helpful.

    • @soniaess28
      @soniaess28 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When the uterus is removed, the cervix is not connected to anything and it makes vaginal prolapse much more likely.
      If the ovaries are also removed, the woman is immediately in premature menopause. This has many health consequences.

    • @Tidwell2161h
      @Tidwell2161h ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another piece of info my doctor gave me when I floated the idea of keeping the cervix is that the top of the cervix can have endometrial tissue attatched to it which can continue to do period cycles after surgery resulting in cyclical spotting. Eta: I'm not on T - but being on T would solve this anyway.
      In my Dr's preference cervical removal allows for vaginal assist laproscopic, so fewer incisions and easier heal time while maintaining the cervix would require abdominal surgery so larger scars and extended heal time.
      I haven't decided whether I should personally keep my cervix and talking to doctors about pros and cons would be a good choice!

    Hey Ashton! This was a really interesting video! As a trans masc person I pretty sure I may want a hysterectomy in future but it’s not something I’ve thought about too much. I mainly at this point use birth control to suppress my periods because of dysphoria and so far that’s worked. It’s killed a majority of that dysphoria but I may in future want a hysterectomy (probably the same kind you got) b/c who knows what will happen in the years to come. Anyways hope you had a great day! Also I agree with you about scars! I love sharing recovery stuff and scar timelines cause I think it’s cool. I'm non-binary and wish to have the same kind of hysterectomy as yours in the future. I don't want to get HRT though since I'm fine with the way I am- it's only that damn uterus that's annoying to me :"). But anyway, your experience is the closest that I've seen online so far to my own goals and I'm really grateful for that because it does make me more confident in demanding for the types of surgeries I need in the future. Just some stuff: I am a 16 year old transmasc, I've been out pretty publicly out for quite a few years now.
    I've been trying to research everything specifically about top surgery and what differences it makes weather I start testosterone before or after because my guardian that I will probably continue to live with due to our financial struggles (I live in Norway so insurance is a little less stressful, but still a quite bit...) and my guardian does not want me to have any surgery or hormone treatment, and frequently uses _very_ ... negative words to describe them, and I'm just very stressed about if I'll lose our relationship. I love my mom, and I don't want to lose her, but I also want to feel like myself and look at myself without very very distressing dysphoria and feel like I have personal autonomy. It's just that everytime I attempt to research this stuff I get reminded that I have them, and that as well as starts a whole downspiral of dysphoria and very uncomfortable feeings.
    And I just feel like getting top surgery first would be something less noticable for her than if I show up with a deep-ass voice and (fucking great) facial hair...
    I know it's still a couple years til I'm of legal age but I just feel very tired and stressed because of all this...

    My hysterectomy was such a nightmare! I was in the hospital for 3 days, because I could not pee! I had a catheter, I bled profusely post-op, and was in the worst pain I ever experienced... but none of the pain medications they gave me helped. Once I was able to pee on my own, they let me leave. The bleeding continued for another 3 weeks, but I have no cervix so... The pain continued for 3 months, and once it was finally gone, I was able to really enjoy the euphoria of having no uterus!
