  • As of today I’ve have a job in tech for 1 year. It’s super surreal to think about far I’ve come. Going from real estate agent and no degree or bootcamp to a full time software engineer at a cool ai startup. In this video I just share my experience and what I’ve learned.

Ive been doing freelance for a bit while also studying more and more. Its just hard to make connections especially since everything is remote now. Appreciate you sharing your journey, this video was great.

Thanks man! Kudos to you with freelancing. I’ve been playing with the idea of doing some paid jobs in the side since I’m always already working on side projects. I totally feel you on it being hard making connection. Where I’m from there was no one. It wasn’t until I moved that I started to.

I am in my second week of coding. Like you I am trying to break out of sales and get into something more stable. Got a buddy who does devops and I have been going down that learning path using python as my starter.
Awesome video, subscribed and liked the video!!!

Keep at it man. I know based on your sales background, you’re willing to put in the work. Just get your coding reps, be a sponge, and network. Your next

Hi, David, greetings from Brazil! Congrats for all achievements!
I'm a sophomore in Computer Science with a background in Finance/Business aiming to get into a backend job for the next semester. Do you think backend would be the best/fastest route to get a job for that time period? If so, Java or JS? (I currently know "intermediate" Java and almost no JS).
Thank you for the great content! Keep going!

Thanks for watching! My sister and stepmother are Brazilian. As far as language either is an option. I would say there’s probably more entry level jobs in JavaScript ecosystem HOWEVER, I do know Java developers are definitely needed and I think because less new developers learn Java (I think) it maybe less competition. Idk. My personal opinion

Thank you so much 👍🏼. I'm trying to become a frontend developer and I don't know where to start in particular and which programming language to learn first.
Please sir, what programming language should I learn first and which tools can help me.
    Greetings from Nigeria.

For doing frontend specifically, definitely JavaScript. Then once you are comfortable, learn TypeScript basics, which in my experience is a must now at this point.
There’s several free resources to learn JavaScript. I did The Odin Project but you can also do FreeCodeCamp. For Typescript, I used Microsoft Learn platform.

Great video David! How much data structure and algorithms do you think we should know before applying for jobs?

I think it's important to learn common algorithms and gain a good understanding of different data structures and knowing how to use them and when to use which ones. As far as how much you need to know will depend on your job role. Some roles you may rarely use certain complex algorithms while others especially in big tech will. I do thing practicing them helps make you a better programmer. So I would say get a base level understanding of things like hash tables/maps, sorting and searching algorithms, trees, linked list, etc.
