My absolute favorite part is when Alex pats his chest as a signal for Daniel to be able to sign the next line of the song. Just how in sync they are. I love it.
I love how they work together. Daniel is fully deaf, meaning he can literally hear NOTHING (I watched an interview and he explained it) so when you see Alex gently slap his chest, that is the cue for Daniel to start signing the song, it makes me happy cause it's proof both hearing and deaf people can work so compatibly together, even with the barrier of communication and can work around it, did not realised I loved this song so much until watching this vid
Can we talk about 1. Alex's hair 2. Alex's vOICE 3. when he pulls the mic back 4. how daniel looks like he's actually pushing heavy things away on "sadness" 5. daniel's arms
their personalities fit the character so well. together they make the perfect Moritz. Alex captures his intense restless side while Daniel 100% is his confused and longing, almost innocent side. I wish I had been able to see the show. this is one of my favorite tracks in the entire thing.
Michael Arden really did a good job characterizing the voices to match the character, as well as the original interpretation of the show when the music is where the characters are allowed to be themselves.
This pair as Moritz is incredible. Alex brings that classic Moritz sound that we all know and love, while still being incredible refreshing in his delivery. And Daniel is such a breath of fresh air! He just brings this understanding of Moritz that I have never seen before. This whole show is breathtaking and I can't wait to see it again.
I actually met hime the other day at a Deaf festival and he was so sweet. He even hugged me first which was the best moment of my life. There was no interpreter. maybe other events, but not this one
Okay but I love the small little signals that Alex gives Daniel to start signing and you can tell there's great chemistry between these two, and I love the intensity so much
No disrespect to Blue Wind, but I'm so happy to find a performance that just has 'Don't Do Sadness' on it's own. And so well performed as well, well done guys!
There's just something about Daniel during the part of "and I will swing them dry" that I can't really explain. It's just so captivating and I can't stop watching. 1:52
it's insane to like watch this video and notice all of alex's cues for daniel. it honestly just blows my mind how intricately this whole production was (and makes me estatic for it to tour)!!!
i just love alex + daniel and how they work together, with the little signals + how much emotion they both bring to the character !! but i've just got to say,, katie jamming out in the background is brilliant
I would have loved to see Alex play the original Moritz! He can Daniel create such an amazing character in the Michael Arden version, but it would be cool to see him with the spiked hair and the mic stand.
I love watching Alex cue Daniel and the true understanding they have each other. This show is so fabulously produced and you can see Alex cue Katie and ahhh i love this show
I have a love/hate relationship with this video because I love Alex and Daniel and Moritz but MY HEART CAN BARELY TAKE IT... I still watch it anyway though. Also can we appreciate the lighting people for this performance because it was beautiful. :)
woah, i just noticed! every time alex starts a new verse, he brings his right hand up to his shoulder/heart and i’ll bet money that’s how he lets daniel know when to sign, even if it’s just a little movement in the corner of his eye
I saw Spring Awakening 3 times. every time it felt like a different show with all the change ups they did. It was my very first Broadway show and I'm so glad I got the chance to see it.
The entire show is so much more rich with Deaf West. There’s something so special about how Moritz and Wendla are shadowed by these guardian angel interpreter characters. And the depth of character when you consider how carefully they chose which characters are deaf, which have the most exposure to sign language... so so good.
I just saw this yesterday and this part in the show made me bawl like a baby. I recommend everyone see this absolutely brilliant and beautiful show!!!!!
so you are required to watch this at least twice all the way through.. once watching alex do his singing and little cues, and another to just focus on daniel signing his heart out (also.. ARMS). additional views are optional, but highly recommended.
I love them both as Moritz! Even more than Gerard's Moritz. Does anyone think it's possible to learn the signs for this song using this video? - yes it is possible to learn the signs from this video
This is such an amazing video I'm literally crying. Everything about this video makes my heart explode. I adore the passion of the sign language interpreter in a way that I really can't explain. It transcends the beauty of singing in a way I've never seen before. And the woman on guitar in the back is having the time of her life and I want to experience just a sliver of the vibe she's feeling.
I did just this and it truly is beautiful to watch, he’s so expressive that even being a beginner asl student, i perfectly could understand what things meant as the song went along
goosesoul probably because half the cast was Deaf. It sucks, I know. It was a brilliant production but just download bootlegs and pray for it to happen again
yeah, they didnt want to discount the deaf actors by putting out a cast album since the asl is such a big part of the show and that cant be shown in a cast album
Could someone please explain the sign Daniel is using for awful sweet. What does it mean? I just want to know because awful and sweet are two different signs, is this a combination of the signs or something? Does it mean like a synonym of what awful sweet means? Is it a compound sign? Sorry this may be like a really dumb question. I’m really curious and I already asked people and they don’t know what it means.
It's amazing that the deaf performer's ASL interpretation/translation is completely overlooked with zero acknowledgment in the end credits. It was dead center of the entire performance, featuring prominently. I doubt many people, whether they know sign language or not, could look away from Daniel Durant's riveting performance. A gross oversight IMHO. Please do better in the future. Such a shame to have such talent oppressed and ignored.

I never noticed that! That’s so cool

i think you’re talking about the sign that stands for “don’t do” but still agreed
6. alex singing high notes
their personalities fit the character so well. together they make the perfect Moritz. Alex captures his intense restless side while Daniel 100% is his confused and longing, almost innocent side. I wish I had been able to see the show.
this is one of my favorite tracks in the entire thing.
I love this interpretation so much!
Michael Arden really did a good job characterizing the voices to match the character, as well as the original interpretation of the show when the music is where the characters are allowed to be themselves.
I'm becoming obsessed with Alex Boniello and it's stressing me out
Sam bro same
It's distressing how easy it is to become obsessed with the people in this cast lol.
Christina Urbina ME
Christina Urbina he's in a new show with Jenn Damiano!
sAME

i'm becoming dangerously obsessed with daniel durant
Me too, I would sell my soul to meet him
Addie R. I agree but I wouldn't be able to converse with him as I don't know ASL :(
+didsomebodysaykatie well he normally has an interpreter so you could communicate that way??
I actually met hime the other day at a Deaf festival and he was so sweet. He even hugged me first which was the best moment of my life.
There was no interpreter. maybe other events, but not this one
Same here
Okay but I love the small little signals that Alex gives Daniel to start signing and you can tell there's great chemistry between these two, and I love the intensity so much

Same, I love both songs but Don't Do Sadness is my absolute fav (Also your username is amazing #GreatCometDeservedBetter)
Let me like this 800 times
There's just something about Daniel during the part of "and I will swing them dry" that I can't really explain. It's just so captivating and I can't stop watching. 1:52
It gives me goosebumps
YES I THOUGHT THE SAME THING. He has such good control over his movement. Also, sorry this is a reply to a two year old comment lol.
same he looks like he’s going in slow motion it was amazing
they're both so cute and i'm really gay and conflicted
Had to watch this a few time to realize that Alex touching his chest between phrases is Daniel's visual cue to continue signing.
Genius! I love the way they did this in the show!
Special_Effect :O
it's insane to like watch this video and notice all of alex's cues for daniel. it honestly just blows my mind how intricately this whole production was (and makes me estatic for it to tour)!!!

daniel is so FIT what the HECK
My god the woman who plays the voice of Wendla is so pure
Tbt to when this was on Broadway *im not crying you are*
Tbt to the fact that it was over a year ago that it closed
i just love alex + daniel and how they work together, with the little signals + how much emotion they both bring to the character !! but i've just got to say,, katie jamming out in the background is brilliant
I would have loved to see Alex play the original Moritz! He can Daniel create such an amazing character in the Michael Arden version, but it would be cool to see him with the spiked hair and the mic stand.
I'm pretty sure he's the only one in this version who does use the mic and his hair is pretty emo in the show lmao
I love watching Alex cue Daniel and the true understanding they have each other. This show is so fabulously produced and you can see Alex cue Katie and ahhh i love this show
Legit still upset Daniel Durant didn’t get a Tony nom
STILL upset.
@@Tamsincanroar real
every time i watch this video i get better at translating what daniel says and i'm so proud of myself
I have a love/hate relationship with this video because I love Alex and Daniel and Moritz but MY HEART CAN BARELY TAKE IT... I still watch it anyway though. Also can we appreciate the lighting people for this performance because it was beautiful. :)

I'd kill for a studio recording of this
this is incredible and I am so mad with myself for not seeing these two perform in the revival
He signs so elegantly!
The entire show is so much more rich with Deaf West. There’s something so special about how Moritz and Wendla are shadowed by these guardian angel interpreter characters. And the depth of character when you consider how carefully they chose which characters are deaf, which have the most exposure to sign language... so so good.
u can see in the beginning alex tapping his chest to tell daniel when to start signing...my heart
this is like the 3rd video I have seen your comments on damn
im invested in annoying the dwsa cast with my comments
D. Durant was unforgettable. Go see this show people!!
I’ve become borderline obsessed with these two, their work is incredible together and I’m so sad I’m Australian and couldn’t see this in person
Daniel is so beautiful.
shows that needed longer runs: Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, and DWSA!!!!
such a fun idea! but who would be the deaf one?
I just saw this yesterday and this part in the show made me bawl like a baby. I recommend everyone see this absolutely brilliant and beautiful show!!!!!
so you are required to watch this at least twice all the way through.. once watching alex do his singing and little cues, and another to just focus on daniel signing his heart out (also.. ARMS). additional views are optional, but highly recommended.
the amount of emotion they both put into this is phenomenal.
they need to go on tour with this show!!!! spring awakening fans deserve this NOW!
+stephanie castillo i'm pretty sure they are touring, but it's not going to be the same actors
Can we talk about that cool guitar player lady in the background
im so glad i got to see alex bonnielo as connor in deh i love both of them so much
Gosh, Daniel Durant is so fineee! His facial expressions is enough to melt me.
The ad before this was for spring awakening and I can't decide if that was coincidental or not
IM SO SHOOK
Alex moving the stand in the intense chord before the chorus makes me laugh
absolutely incredible, theyre such an amazing duo!!!
I love them both as Moritz! Even more than Gerard's Moritz.
Does anyone think it's possible to learn the signs for this song using this video?
-
yes it is possible to learn the signs from this video
the guitar player is my forever mood

I love the little signs that Alex gives Daniel to start doing the
"Just don't need it in my life, don't want any part of it" The interpretation into ASL here is really cool.
I love this video so much

Ive watched this so many times. Its brilliant.

i srsly wanna learn the sign language of this song omgg
Pause at 1:20 and look at Alex's face
It's so worth it
Please if you are Hearing put it on mute! It is the most gorgeous thing not having the English interfere with his interpretation
I did just this and it truly is beautiful to watch, he’s so expressive that even being a beginner asl student, i perfectly could understand what things meant as the song went along
Daniel is so beautiful fuuuuckckj
Who else is here after bway jackbox lol
About to be six years… i’m fine….
Thought that was antonio cipriano at first 👀
so um why the fuck isn't there a dwsa cast album
goosesoul probably because half the cast was Deaf. It sucks, I know. It was a brilliant production but just download bootlegs and pray for it to happen again

What? Alex and Daniel are credited at the beginning. The band is credited at the end.
The typical deborah affectively clip because asia objectively destroy for a material muscle. delicious, tasteful venezuela
I just don't understand how some people get on the stage. These cannot sing in my opinion.
John Beatus how? They're so good!
