You lost the Europa Conference game because of your high line. In the 89th minute of the final, West Ham forward Bowen broke the high line and ran and scored. You should know that there are times to play low and focus on defending your goal. Like in a tournament final at 1-1.
Klopp has also said that a high line results in less running for his team. The quicker to get the ball back, the less distance back toy heir own goal they have to run. Of course some teams are learning how they play the ball out can counter-act this. Long balls or even hitting balls at awkward angles so that it’s hard to control. Great channel!
@@nofurtherwest3474 The offside trap exists for that purpose. The only time the players have to track back is if a timed through-ball is sent through, but Virgil can usually shut down most attacks like that.

The other defenders were trying to play Vini offside for that first goal, but Kounde was oblivious and stuck his foot out which kept Vini onside. As I’ve said, Kounde was the weakest link that ruined the chances of the high line to be used at its best.
@@wholelottamin There's not much benefit to pushing all the way up to the midway line because there's no offside behind that. so what... you're trying to catch them offside in the first 8 yards after midway line? that's a damn small window. better to lay back and have some insurance. you playing with fire. the risk is not worth the reward. the risk is too high against a team like RM with fast forwards. even if they stay behind your line when the ball is passed they can still outrun you.

Almost the same as in the Benzema disallowed goal.

They need to understand each other, their habits, playstyles, passing ranges, you name it. They need a high football IQ. A defense is like a unit, not just individuals. They need to be in sync. I’d say around 6 months to a year.

Get players with pace on the half way line and somebody who can pump it into space and watch the fun begin! Liverpool have a well drilled and superbly athletic back 4, hence they get away with it. Look what happened when Van Dyke was injured last season and they finished 3rd, lost 9 and shipped 42 goals.

I think far too many teams try to build out the back off goal kicks when they do not have the talent/skills to navigate a well organized press on a consistent basis. I'm not a big fan of the offside trap as I feel it's an exploitation of the original spirit of the Offside Law (though perfectly within a teams's strategic rites). But I do like the "ball as reference" approach to a high line as I feel that works more "in the spirit" of the game
teams don't go long because for this they need to get more players forward to fight for the second ball, allowing a counter from the opposing team. also, it would mean that they won't have the ball to stop the other team from building play, as they're giving it away too easily with long passes. so, instead, they opt for retaining possession and try to build an attack from there.

Insofar as losing possession, I think losing possession in the back while trying to build up and your defense is stretched is a far more compromising position than going long off of a goal kick when more of your players are in a compact/defensively organized situation and if the opposition wins the ball they are further from goal and therefore, in a less threatening position than if they won the ball against a stretched defense just outside that defense's penalty box

As if they never even watched properly Klopp's Liverpool or Pep's City. How they thought Liverpool were able to high press without moving defensive line higher? what a buncha idiots.
It's such a huge topic that there's plenty of ways you can start. I'd say from a purely analytical view, always start from a teams goal kicks and see how they try and move the ball forward, once you understand where each player starts it's much easier to understand what spaces they are trying to exploit, same goes for a defending team, how many players do they press with and what spaces are they giving the opponent?
west ham today was playing high line for 35 min, they were getting hammered. Conceded goal at 39 min vs Man UTD. So stupid playing high line knowing you’re getting hammered.
I'm sorry but I do not see the benefit of a high line, even from this video. You are leaving a lot of open space for the opponent to attack. You can't really "compress the space" because all that does is open space up behind. There is a finite about of space on a pitch. If you compress one area then it opens up another. And it is safer to compress the space in your third to protect your goal than to compress the space in the opponent's third, where it is of little immediate danger to you.
