    Speaking as someone who has a 5,500 sqft driveway, I have almost the identical driveway as you. May 10th of 2023 I had recycled poured as the difference between recycled and hot asphalt was $9,000 vs $15:000 , my driveway looked just as good after they were done. Nobody mentioned pouring diesel to keep it intact. I also had a drop off on the sides with a slope downhill. Recycled will not stay in place like hot asphalt so I spent another 9k having g edging and rock run along the sides to anchor it in place. You have to backfill the sides with dirt if you want to keep the recycled from moving and breaking off. First rains we got all the top started to wash off to then sides and the loose top kept the water from draining off. The first snow the top layer came off when I plowed. Each subsequent plowing took off a little bit of the top. When it rained the recycled asphalt was no better then expensive black gravel and I spent too much time patching ruts with recycled asphalt that had washed off of the sides, and then driving up and down with my truck packing it down. Because the top layer was no longer solid, any snow would melt because it was black but the water would stay on the driveway and freeze. I finally had enough and had another hot asphalt poured for $11k 10 mo later. As bad and as rough as my driveway was with recycled, the hot asphalt said my driveway looked better then most they have seen after one year. The cost was less to have the hot asphalt poured since the recycled acted as a solid base. The only way I would ever recommend recycled asphalt if you live so,ewhere that it doesn’t snow, and if you have a short driveway less then 3,000 sqft and one that doesn’t have a steep grade, otherwise invest in a landscaping company coming out and leveling your driveway and using a weed barrier over a drainage system and pouring 1” rock over it, However I am extremely pleased with the hot asphalt and wish I had sent the money and it it done first

    For best results, use topping milling material.. potatoe chip size or a tad smaller... I've also used seal coat after it's graded rolled and compacted.. I've been doing it for 25 years

      I had a long rural driveway done with something like this but it was laid out and rolled back in october in ontario. it's hardened a bit over the winter but I will have to roll it again and alot of it still is loose. The small pieces sunk to the bottom and the pebbles stayed up top. I haven't tried the calcium chloride yet but I will. Any other suggestions?

    Hi. I just put down recycled grinding today August 9 2023. I’m wondering how your driveway is holding up. Did the calcium tighten things up and hold through your the winter. Also how did the driveway spray work after. Thanks for any help. Brian ( your driveway turn out great tbh. )

    • @KendorFarms
      @KendorFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So the base turned out very solid, the top it's like a loose gravel. I was told the spray would fix that and it didn't. Might have been better to do right away. The calcium definitely made it hard. Other then the top being like loose gravel I'm happy with it. Still an upgrade from the muddy driveway it used to be. It's definitely not hot asphalt by any means.
      Looking back I would have rolled it with a heavier roller as theirs wasn't very big and tried spraying it shortly after having it paved.

      Hi Kendor Farms. June 22/2024. I didn’t go with the oil. I had a friend do it and it seemed to track bad everywhere. So I’m still debating on using the calcium and re rolling our driveway. I have a little newly added section to do so wondering how yours is working out now. I would like you to add pictures of mine but I don’t see the option to do that to compare. Agree totally though. Much better than a mud wet driveway. Some days I am on the fence if I should have spent 30 plus grand though for asphalt. Just such a cleaner look when it’s new. But I also hear so many horror stories on driveways that cost that much too. Hope you see this reply. 🍻 Brian

      @BrianHoras Haha yea, I went with the poor man's asphalt. I have a very firm solid base, but the top layer is loose. I guessing my product didn't have much tar in it. My friends had their done by the same people and it looks close to asphalt. Oh well. I can live with it

      I believe it was around 20 degrees Celsius when it was laid and cooled off at night. The night condensation really helped the calcium do it’s thing and no matter how much I put on it was all gone by morning into the asphalt. The only thing I should have done sooner is rent the proper roller meant for these driveways and packed it further then their little one did.

      Weather hasn't been an issue and the dark colour helped melt snow if snow is in your area. Not sticky, or dirty other then regular dust. I do recommend it, but it's all about prep. Have a solid base and when it's done a proper heavy roller meant for asphalt. I've never used limestone, but it's fairly similar. I guess coat would be the only factor. Also fresh milling are best for a good final product

      Since the area is a bit too much to handle with hand racking so what equipment would you suggest to level mechanically

      I just had about 4200 sq ft of asphalt put down by a local large paver. It went over the top of an existing asphalt driveway. It is an absolutely beautiful job. I paid $13,315. It was worth every penny. I just won't do a job on the cheap anymore. When I was younger I would do it all myself so I get a quality job done cheaply. I don't really post videos, but maybe I should and show you how nice the job could have been done. And I feel confident that you will be stuck redoing your drive long before me. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but for me a full professional repave made sense.
