They always said that he could do it on his own and try to build it, but they just wouldn't put money into it if there was no ROI. Dave always says that anyone can do any show they want, but until it moves the needle, they won't put support behind it. All Rico needed was his iPhone and he could have continued putting out the show if he wanted.

Rico’s negative behaviors were rocketed up to 100 when he started full time. That kind of thing happens to people pretty frequently in the professional world. People don’t always realize that lying, manipulating, bullying, and being generally low functioning aren’t really things you can get away with as an adult in most workplaces, especially ones like Barstool. Instead of firing him like a normal company would, Dave and BC turned him into their punching bag and there was absolutely nothing Rico could do at that point. His negative behaviors were perfectly hidden in a regular union job, but once the real him got put on display everything spiraled out of control. If Rico were willing to work on his psychological issues and shortcomings it probably would’ve turned out okay, but he’s too immature to do that.
He could've taken after Jersey Jerry. Completely crazy but also toned back so much so that you actually think he might be a normal person. Until you see the Steelers video that got him hired😂

Rico should start a radio call in business where radio stations pay him to call in and he just gets to off on people. Seriously no better caller in the world than him, and listening to kirks show versus the normal barstool shows he’s actually on, it’s when he seems the happiest and most energetic.

Great update and post mortem! A sad day for sure! Rico was was at his best with you two and Hank! Dave and Big Cat are the proverbial 10,000 pound gorilla and Rico could have jumped on and rode that to fame and fortune. Talk about squandering an amazing opportunity. Unfortunately Rico couldn't get out of his own way and that is unlikely to change. Only now he won't have Dave and Big Cat to stake him. I hope he's successful but his crazy will never play like it did at Barstool. Wishing Rico the best he will be sadly missed!

I loved watching Rico on here every week. It truly made me laugh so much. But I will say that he is the most overly emotional person I think I’ve ever seen. He gets in his own head wayyyyyy too much. I hope he finds happiness.

Rico is a funny, irreplaceable figure in the Barstool universe. There's a very long list of unsavory things he did, but not helping his cousin's bar during COVID to do 1 podcast is all you need to know about the guy. He'll be crawling back to Dave in a year tops.

If anyone is familiar with the Howard Stern universe this is EXACTLY like when Jackie Martling, Stuttering John, or any of the freaks that were in Howard's orbit left the company to work for competitors. It never, ever works. Rico is funny and entertaining THROUGH the prism of Dave, Big Cat, and the litany of other Barstool people. What Dave and Big Cat have created is an ecosystem of content creation whereby Barstool sustains a competitive advantage over rival firms by enabling some of the strangest and most grotesque people to entertain us. They are the puppet masters. Without them, Rico will have a very hard time being independently funny and rival companies cannot in any way, shape, or form replicate the Barstool universe. Hiring employees away who became famous through interactions with Dave or Big Cat is unlikely to have a good ROI.

I think at the end of the day rico is just so much better when he’s not trying to force stuff. That’s why he was the best caller the world had ever seen. Having to sit down for three hours and go through a list of topics would be hard for anyone to be interesting. I think he puts too much pressure on himself and every little thing is the end of the world. There is maybe three people on the planet that would have a seriously successful college basketball podcast, it’s nearly impossible. Pardon my take doesn’t even stick to sports as a whole all the time, and they have two of the funnier guys on the internet.

Cant be understated how poor Rico’s work ethic was and will continue to be
Rico was a fourth liner at best. Big Cat and Dave put him on the first line. When Rico wasn’t tossin up points, coach gave him a few options. He decided to be put on waivers. This is the year Barstool wins the cup, When Rico’s team is fighting for a first round pick. This won’t have a Ray Bourque type ending.
He’ll be back within 6 months. Dave and Big Cat may jab at him but they gave him more rope than any employer I could ever think of. Not going to get that anywhere else. Plus he’ll actually have to put in work, be a nobody and start from the bottom. His self-perceived value is way too high for him to handle that mentally.
Whatever " star power " Rico thinks he had was directly related to the Dave and Dan dynamic. He is nothing without them as far as being a " star " . He is gonna get hit with a semi truck of reality soon as he enters this new work environment. The man had the biggest free pass of all time at barstool and could basically do whatever he wanted and still making a full salary like he was working 40+ hours a week while working less than 10 hr a week.
