For those who don’t know DC, it greatly helps with line control in rough condition. It will not stop backlash 100% but highly minimizes it. Also, when bombing lures, you can see the DC fixing the line twist and imperfection. DC have help me many times whereas non DC could’ve F** me up reel bad. 2 years experience with DC and been very please.
Not sure where my original comment went, but FYI it has aluminum gears.. Reel looks a bit wider per Kuro's blog post. Speculate, the USA release probably brass gears and high 6oz for our USA power applications.
Thank you for this intro to the new metDC. I am a "shimano guy" only, so I really appreciate your channel! Having said that I am NOT a DC fan. I just purchased the 23met and anticipate it's competence. I have run 2007AntaresDC and nonDC. Since the 2012Antares, which I have 4 of, I only fish non DC shimanos. I have 2 2019Antares non DCs, I love the 2022Bantam have 3. The only DC I have contemplated recently was the 2023AntaresMD, but I keep holding out. If you have any words to convinceMr, I'll consider it. Looking forward to your review once you have tested the new DCmet. Thanks again 😊
Really good release, there's been too many bulky and heavy dc reels. This metanium dc will be 6.1oz which is insanely light. Hopefully it can cast both heavy and lighter baits. DC reels have struggled with distance when casting anything below 1/2oz.
Thank you for commenting this. I’ve had a dc for a year now and couldn’t figure out why it’s not casting further than the cheaper lews I have. Had no clue others have the same issue
@@34jcub yea man dc reels are designed to bomb out baits in the 1/2 to 3/4oz range. The number one setting can cast super far but you need the right bait, line, and conditions to see it bomb a cast. Other than that, I don't get the dc hype when regular centrifugal breaks perform much better than dc. People also love to flex the thumbless casting, but when you dial a dc reel to cast thumbless you're literally casting like 15ft lol
I've sold every dc reel I ever owned. They just don't perform the way I like to fish which is more on the finesse 1/4 to 3/8 oz range. I haven't tried lews reels because of a bias I have towards doyo Korean mass produced reels like lews abu etc, but I will say daiwa makes the best breaking system. The zillion is so good for that power finesse below 1/2oz range. And the breaking system in the tatula elite/steez A is so good for baits above 1/2oz. So easy to adjust. Shimano dc is too heavy short distance and svs infinity is too sensitive to change. A slight breeze and I have to adjust the breaks or else I get small over runs every cast. @@34jcub
Is the JDM or USA coming out first? I have my name on preorder for Japan Lure Shop but rather have it now lol. Crappie season coming up at Lake Mead so this reel would be perfect with my M/ML rods
I am finding it hard to believe that much is truly changing with reels, it seems we are at out max distance for casting and at are minimum for weight for the reels and realistically the reel can't get much lighter. I still throw reels 15 years old that still work as good as anything new. I know they need to sell product but what's really changing? Unless some new frame material or technology that no longer is needed to make something work. I am surprised we have not had a completely new reel style introduced. Just curious of your thoughts on this. Thanks for all you do.
I don't disagree that there is some stagnation in each price bracket. But some reels stand out and cast far better than I expected. I had almost all Curado 200 I & Scorpion 200 reels until I upgraded all my reels last year. For some techniques it doesn't matter, but for others it is night and day. Curado 150mgl, Aldebarran mgl 30, zillion 1000, alphas 900 sv / tatula 70 sv all impressed me. I really like the 22 bantam A, curado 200m, and Aldebarran 22 bfs. But they haven't blown me away. I disliked my curado 150dc and metanium 150 and sold them off. DC reels are cool, but I don't find them beneficial to my style of fishing.
@@686caleb I agree with the DC' s they are not where they need to be. I agree specific reels for specific things... especially when it comes to light lures. I think the main thing I speak of is truly new technology or design, it feels like they hit a wall.
@@THEREELTEST Very true. I enjoy your channel and all your insights. DC reels just haven't earned a permanent place in my arsenal. But I appreciate that they are fantastic for other people. I think that how each person learned to cast and what their muscle memory defaults to greatly impacts what manufacturer and breaking style they will prefer. I was raised on centrifugal brakes and have always preferred that system.
Went back to watch your SLX DC XT. Both have the idc 5 system. Probabaly upgraded the software? I personally dont like how the 150 met actually sits higher when mounted on a rod even though its a compact reel. Feels like palming a small round reel. With that said, i have no complaints with my slx dc xt. Cant wait for your comparison. SLX dc xt probably better bang for the buck.
Could anyone explain to me the reason why its a benefit of having the line type dial on the outside instead of inside? I can't imagine ever respooling with a different type line while on the water. You'd think you'd want that option tucked away... Video also shows "Fluorocarbon --> Type N" which is confusing, isn't that for nylon aka mono? I must be missing something!
Did anyone notice that the typical DC sound in the original video is missing? Which would be a benefit for me if the new dc sound just like a normal reel.
I would like to see FTB be brought into a new 30 size Aldebaran MGL or it would have been interesting to see the Conquest SE use a new FTB style braking system for semi-BFS. Also hoping the aluminum gears hold well in the new Metanium DC. My Aldebaran BFS has held great, and the new Metanium Shallow Edition had zero complaints I ever saw...
FTB is awesome as a magnetic system, but SVS Infinity in a BFS reel is better in my experience. Im trying to convert my Aldebaran 30 into a BFS reel with SVS Infinity. And the alleged problems with Shimano aluminum micro gears are just fanboy propoganda. Ive never seen one credible bit of evidence of this happening and I have the 2013 Metanium still as smooth as ever

Yep my lew's super duty broke and i need to replace it but i found a new shimono scorpion md 2024 with 20 pounds of drag that's the one I'm going to get and it's saltwater approved size 200 scorpion md and it only costs 177.38 us dollars

In my opinion DC technology is somewhat of a gimmick, as the article you shared in the video pointed out they historically have struggled with distance. They are also somewhat like training wheels. having owned most of the Shimano reels that have been made in that past 15 + years, DC is definitely not a gimmick. Very few people can dial in SVS Infinity to reach its maximum potential. It most peoples hands, the DC reel will cast farther and be more consistent doing it
I own the 15 Met DC and 18 Antares DC, and they’re both phenomenal. I can’t wait to get my hands on the soon-to-come Conquest SE and Met DC. I hope the new Met DC’s a 100+ reel since the Steez CT SV TW 70 is about as good you can hope for at that size.
