So that got us thinking… What are the quickest cars EVER to hit 60mph in ridiculously short times? Well, we’ve been researching, and we’ve come up with a list of the top 10 fastest accelerating cars to hold this title! And just to clarify, we’re not only talking about new cars, or wild one-offs which you couldn’t even drive on the road. We’re focusing solely on mass-produced cars!

Mat hasn't forgotten about the Porsche 918 Spyder! Yes, that car has done 0-60 in 2.1 seconds, but that time was measured with a one-foot rollout (where the car was rolling for 30cm before it launched). It doesn't sound like much, but it really helps it put its power down and makes a big difference to the 0-60mph time! The times on Mat's list are all from ZERO to 60mph.

The demon can only achieve those 60 mph times on a prepped drag strip with drag radials and a burn out. You cant just go buy a demon, run up to a light, hit the gas and get to 60 in 2.3 seconds. Even using launch mode it's not going to have traction......

I'd love to see a video (or video series) on what the fastest cars for each year were (starting in say 1960). Best to leave out cars that cost more than $100k in adjusted dollars since this video covers the super cars that they say are production vehicles but that they make a mere handful of each year.

The times Mat mentioned are the claimed times by the manufacturers (On paper times). The best measured times (on road times) are others. The fastest car 0-60 mph is Porsche 918 Spider with 2,1 seconds and the fastest car 0-100 km/h is the new Porsche Turbo S with 2,5 seconds.

Model S Plaid has been measured under 2.4
The Ultimate Aero made 1,183 horsepower according to them. I think Top Gear found the horsepower to be 798 but it was determined that a rock had gotten lodged in a turbo system and had caused it to lose a lot of boost pressure.
Of course, in light of recent events, there is room for some skepticism in that narrative...
So, what's going to knock the Tesla Model S off the top spot? Will it be the Lotus Evija? What about the Rimac C2? Let us know!

0-60 mph isn't the most important thing in a "fast car", the 0-120 is much more interesting. because 2 cars with similar 0-60 can have very different times for the 0-120 mph...
For me all that matters is 0-240
You're so right. 0-200 km/h is more important.
It was in the past but since performance has gone bonkers the most important acceleration factor would be the 0-200 and then for supercars 0-300 is really what matters since where I live I could go out at night time and do 300kph anytime I want..just that my car doesnt exceed 300 sadly..
100-200k is probably the most relevant to the real world

I love my 2000 911 C4, only 320HP with the 2003 firmware ECU flash, and even with 143,000 miles on it, it can still hit 0-60 in just under 4 seconds, does 170+MPH with ease and when driven conservatively i have done 33.4 MPG on a 407 mile trip.
Nice list. The only one within my financial reach, also happens to be the fastest, so it will do. Those two seaters, suure are fun though.

Secondly, I can find absolutely NO evidence that Shelby did anything to the chassis, let alone "rework the tube frame". ALL the chassis work was carried out by AC to spec, not the other way around. Furthermore,; upgrading the brakes, steering and suspension is hardly anything that isn't done on ANY racing buck, let alone a machine that is going to be sold to people specifically for racing.
Thirdly, the racing car which actually had international success was the coupe, not the Cobra. But it still had the AC chassis, nothing extra from Shelby.
Fourthly, "Also, the 427 body had nearly every piece of aluminum redesigned except for the bonnet and boot." Who did the redesign? It certainly wasn't Shelby. Nope, it was AC's reworking, because the Ace went out of production in 1963, and it was AC that did the chassis development, and it was AC that sent the bare metal chassis to Shelby.

If you had used the GT40 (in fact, a direct successor to the Cobra, even down to using a European chassis) as an example, I'd have fully agreed with you. But the Cobra in any of its incarnations other than the (Daytona) Coupe, was only really successful in the USA. And please note also that the Daytona Coupe wasn't even CALLED a Cobra, so even that makes your own OP BS: And even the Daytona Coupe was only briefly successful.
The reality is that, with that brief period in the mid-late 1960s, US sports cars have really been a bit of a joke. It took another 40 years for American sports cars to be taken seriously, and would you believe it? It was another GT40 that did it. Not even the Dodge Viper could seriously be considered to be much more than a traditional Muscle Car, none of the finesse or neatness of European offerings.
But that's what you want. Fine by me, but it doesn't really persuade anybody that Americans really know how to make sports cars.

The classic special edition muscle cars from the 1960s were pretty intense as well. Not sure they actually sold many . . . or any.
But the 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 had a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds . . . That was 50 years ago! friggin amazing!
Have a 67 Catalina and it does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds with the non-performance engine that was widely available at that time. Am not seeing Road Runners with Hemis or a lot of other cars that were faster than many cars shown here. Then I look at like Car and Driver specs and wonder what gives? Back then C&D were given "detuned" cars to slow them down and not injure the eurocars appreciation. Seems like a lot of hornswoggling was going on. Never zero dragged raced several of the early cars named there but, like 10mph punch and such. Never saw tail lights.... take this video with a sack of salt.
3:13 - 3:39 - 959 sequence by Canepa. I spied my local mountain roads, CA Hwy 9 & Mt. Hermon through Felton, Hwy 35 by Boulder Creek. This featured car is their 959 SC “Reimagined”. Over 800hp and you can imagine much quicker than the original. Don’t miss their museum, showroom and shop walk videos.

Going back is trivial. Shelby Cobra Supersnake.
The basic 427 Cobra was famed for being able to do 0-100-0 in a quarter mile (and ballpark 12 seconds) - the Supersnake (2 made, one for Carrol himself that sold VERY recently for $6 Million at auction, the other originally for Bill Cosby but got sold a couple times and eventually wrecked) took that basic 427 Cobra design and added a PAIR of Paxton superchargers, booting the horsepower by somewhat more than 50% (Carroll estimated them at 800 Horsepower - but that was SAE Gross, closer to 720 by today's SAE Net standards).
But this was in a ballpark 2600 pound car.....
These were JUST as "factory" as many of the cars on this list.

Along with some of the best fails (like the ZR1 vette).
C6 zr1 was faster than lamborghinis of its time wasn't it wouldn't call it a fail, and newer z06 is faster than many Ferraris and Porsches, also at a third of the price so affordable for much more people, and not to forget the viper acr, which has more lap records than any other production road legal car, and about tenth fastest on ring

@@roguedogx yes the c7 zr1 didn't do as well as it should have, the v12 vantage red bull edition should have been a lot faster, brilliant car 6 speed manual na v12, but probably much too heavy and front engined. I like the new Gordon Murray supercar, if done right will be one of if not the fastest on nurburgring, because of its light weight, which time and time again has shown to be the sole factor in amazing lap times. Ultima gtr, radical sr8 mclaren f1 senna viper (relatively, big torque) etc

@@eliastarabay7517 on prepped drag tires, in a drag strip, with a burnout. These cars listed can go 0-60 according to the times when brand new just flooring it from a dead stop. The Demon needs special additions to achieve 0-60 in 2.3 s. In short, you can't just buy a Demon fron a dealership, floor it after a red light, and achieve 0-60 in 2.3 s.

MC12? That's a rare car, I think 50 were made and 12 corsa version for the track but unless some collector gives it to him for review.

People had big block ford, chevy, and mopar powered street legal hot rods that did 3s 0-60 in the modified division back in the 70s and 80s. You can easily crank out 1000 hp with a big block v8, good induction and 15-20 lbs of boost from a blower (which work well with carbs)

The quickest production/road car in the 90s (and the arrival of the Bugatti Veyron) was the road version of the Dauer 962 Le Mans, which did 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds. Second one (before the Dauer) was Count Rossi's formerly road legal 1971 Porsche 917K (0-100 in only 2.8 seconds).

With modern tires theres no doubt it could. The limiting factor back then was putting that power down through 2 bias plys from the 60s lol

That is absolutely nuts. The fastest car I’ve ever driven is a Calibra Turbo, and I thought that was mental in ‘01 😂
