DISABILITY POWER 100, MORNING IN LONDON, AND PRIORITISING FREELANCE WORK WITH A CHRONIC ILLNESS

  • It's such an honour to be named by The Shaw Trust on this year's Disability Power 100 List as one of the most influential disabled people in the UK. I headed down to London to attend the ceremony at The Landmark Hotel, before staying overnight at Premier Inn Paddington Basin to help me pace myself. The next day I had a wander around Regent's Park, had a look at the Frieze Exhibition and did my charity sector work in the British Library, before heading back home to York. My plan was to document the rest of the week, including a local blogger event and a peaceful protest, but sometimes my workload as a disabled freelancer means I have to say no to things and prioritise looking after myself while doing the work that pays the bills. This definitely didn't turn out to be the weekly vlog I anticipated it being, but I had a lovely time in London and hope you enjoy watching!

My name is Pippa Stacey and I’m a disabled writer, speaker, and communication consultant based in York. I enjoy theatre, books, and fundraising, and can most often be found wearing some form of pyjamas and drinking all the tea.
I acquired my chronic illness as a young adult and struggle daily with the challenges of living my best life alongside managing a debilitating health condition. Thankfully, I’ve finally learned that I don’t have to ‘overcome’ or ‘defy’ my illness in order to be successful, and there’s truly nobody’s path to follow but your own.
You can find out more about me and my work by visiting www.lifeofpippa.co.uk, and subscribe to see videos about working, travelling, and really making the most of life alongside my chronic illness. Thank you so much for being here!

Awesome video Pippa! I live in the a rural part of the US, so to see you travel on a train to get to London and everyday things you do is so different compared to my everyday life O find it fascinating.😊 I am also 5.3 I am quite small as well, especially since I got sick with CFS. I shop at TJ Maxx,I think it’s called TK Maxx there?? The variety of sizes is great. Im super sensitive clothing material wise so they have lots of options. Question: does your sunset necklace thingy😆 help people recognize your CFS? I guess I’m wondering if it actually helps? Do you know if people wear them in the US? Congrats on getting to be part of the disability 100 event! Don’t doubt yourself. You are such a great help and representative for those with CFS so thank you for being a voice for us! 💗

Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words Ruby! Ahh yes TK Max could be a good shout, will have to have a look! It's the Sunflower Lanyard for less-visible disabilities which is part of a scheme that's widely recognised in the UK now, not sure about the US but you can find out more here: hiddendisabilitiesstore.com/
