Syntax Error nintendo has a lot of balls to treat mother 3 like it is today. having a tiny refrence of the masked man on a t-shirt on a lucas skin is terrible. I believe that claus/the masked man should be a fighter in smash, not to be a clone of ness, but to be its own entity.
Personally, I feel a sitar should be somewhere in the medley considering this is Claus and for whatever reason that's his instrument in Mother 3. But yeah still pretty good overall.

I really love 2:42, the pianos notes give off a really serious vibe, and then 2:47 the weird sounds from battle against the masked man join in and they're completely disorganised. This entire segment feels like you're idling in a battle unsure of what to do, like maybe feeling tired, getting dizzy, but you can't escape. I really wish I could put into words better how much I love this segment.
Yeah it's great, perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the final fight, the just.. disheartened, quiet confusion and heartbreak of being faced off against the masked man, who you now definitely know the identity of, but you still don't want to believe it.

I love this! It's certainly very different from the original strong one... it sounds more... melancholic, I don't know if I am talking sense here. While the original sounded, well, strong, this one (partly because of the inclusion of the final battle's theme) gives some sad vibes, as if the protagonist knew he had to fight his attacker, as he'd be killed otherwise, but doesn't trully want to, as he has a bad feeling about his opponent (which is, actually, just what happens in game). Overall, I really like this remix. In fact, I like it better than the original! I'll be watching your work!

I never cared much for strong one, it was just another theme to me. I didn't dislike it, I just didn't find it appealing. But this version of it (which I can't stop listening to, I have this looping right now and have been listening to it for at least an hour) made me really gain an appreciation for the theme, and now I love it!! Great job!! (Side note: I totally support this getting into the next smash game. This'll make one hell of a fighting theme, maybe some sort of boss battle if they bring a mode like subspace emissary from Brawl into the game. The next smash better have a masked man boss battle at least if we can't get more mother characters to play as)

It was very much inspired by other boss fight themes like the FF7 boss theme, and the music from the final world in Kirby Crystal Shards. A lot of people have tweeted at me letting me know that they modded the song into Smash 4. =P

I would want him or Kumatora as the next Mother character in Smash. Kumatora could possibly be more of a combo character since the game does require you to do some sort of hit combo and she would do that with her fists. She could utilize a variety of PK power, but use it differently. Not sure how, but maybe using her fists.
I would rather have her as a Lucas Alt. Lucas already has much of her PK abilities like PK Freeze, Thunder, and Fire, since he was made to represent his entire party

His final smash would probably be his Intense Lightning attack. That's how I think his moveset should look.
@@Kukalooka a bolt of lightning that acts like a huge explosion hitting like 75% of the screen and an insta-ko at low percents, but can be blocked. if it's blocked or reflected it kills you instead (in 3+ players it kills anyone who doesnt block or use reflection abilities, auto-blocked with franklin badge). if it's dodged with the dodge button or you are far enough away nothing happens (nobody was there to reflect the lightning back)
Great remix, I think my favorite theme from the game was rightly done justice here. I feel like Masked Man would make a really cool Smash character too, what with all the tools at his disposal (sword, jetpack, PSI, arm cannon, lightning? wtf) and the fanboy in me is disappointed it hasn't happened.
Masked Man looks really cool ! Though it's interesting you went for a glowing see-through sword, I would have pictured his sabre as either a fleuret or a rod filled with electricity. Anyway, as you said on the commentary, the sprite is so small it's left up to interpretation.

What I think'd make Strong One better is if the music became faster the more the boss's HP dropped. That'd be badass. Even if it set the tone for fighting Masked Man/the Barrier Trio, since they are STRONG AF.
i was never good at combos in the more difficult songs. let's mention that unfounded revenge and smashing song of praise are kind of difficult to combo to, not to mention rock n roll (spicy & mild). intense guys is okay. i forgot the one theme i almost always got 4+ hit combos on. as for the theme going faster as the boss gets weaker, i would love that (i don't think i got combos anyway, unless it was 2-3 hits from just spamming the attack button lol. especially not on the masked man's version, which is a different tempo)
I want this as DLC, the fighter and song (And possibly a stage.) This song is really good, and Smash needs more Earthbound/Mother Fighters. Claus was my favorite character in Mother 3 and he'll be my main alongside Lucas if he gets in.

Giegue: as a character? he's pretty obscure and he's an immobile alien in a tank, now sure how exactly that would translate to a move set Giygas: In earthbound you were essentially fighting the entire backround, maybe with some creativity he can become a reasonable boss (if they even bring boss battles back) Masked Man: alt (although it might spoil the plot twist that claus = masked man, but who cares. Contrary to popular belief, Strong One - Masked Man does not have a time signature of 29/16, but rather one somewhere around ~28.68/16. However, how it is heard is so negligible as to be nonexistent.
It's actually extremely apparent, sure if you're not used to very angular odd time signatures you probably won't be able to tell a difference since you'd probably have a hard time following 29/16 in the first place but a third of a 16th note is a rather sizable chunk of time to be missing. If anything the original version is very strong evidence for why complex irrational time signatures do actually serve a valuable purpose in rhythmic theory. Also the actual time signature is 71907/40120 for anyone wondering, which sounds insane but since it doesn't actually contain any 40,120th notes it is quite reasonable for a human to accurately perform with practice.
@@TheSquareOnes I would strongly push back against the idea a "third of a 16th" at this tempo is easy to notice. For all intents and purposes, Strong One (Masked Man) is almost certainly 29/16 meter.
@@Musicombo I may have oversold it a bit a couple years ago, but I do think it's quite easy to notice. There is a video with the original looped for half an hour, go listen to that and just drum straight 16ths with your hands. The tempo isn't that fast so even non-drummers shouldn't struggle too much with that and if nothing else it should be fairly clear a lot of the rhythms are not aligning with your 16th note grid, even if their exact rate relative to that grid is difficult to track. To be fair I am a math rock drummer (albeit trash-tier) and listen to lots of music with odd time signatures, including simpler irrational ones, on a regular basis. So my baseline for what is easy to perceive in terms of rhythm is definitely going to be different from many, but the feel is so "off" that I absolutely believe most people should be able to pick up on it without an unreasonable amount of effort once they know what to listen for. It's similar to quintuplet swing in a way, might require a ton of practice to perform accurately but just about anyone can get into the groove of it almost immediately. This is clearly going in a more extreme, less groove-oriented direction but the core concept of "hey, something very obviously wonky is happening with the note rate" is the same.
@@TheSquareOnes I've been able to line up the 16ths perfectly fine with a 29/16 transcription before though, a la Dan Bruno: danbruno.net/writing/mother3/ For all intents and purposes, 29/16 is correct for this song, and I would argue it makes a lot of *musical* sense in terms of interpreting and playing around with Strong One (Masked Man).

Giygas: In earthbound you were essentially fighting the entire backround, maybe with some creativity he can become a reasonable boss (if they even bring boss battles back)
Masked Man: alt (although it might spoil the plot twist that claus = masked man, but who cares. King P = porky was already)

You know, I'm really satisfied with the amount of Mother series representation we have in Smash... except for the music. There just isn't enough Mother music in the game. I really hope they add more in the future.

Contrary to popular belief, Strong One - Masked Man does not have a time signature of 29/16, but rather one somewhere around ~28.68/16. However, how it is heard is so negligible as to be nonexistent.

It's actually extremely apparent, sure if you're not used to very angular odd time signatures you probably won't be able to tell a difference since you'd probably have a hard time following 29/16 in the first place but a third of a 16th note is a rather sizable chunk of time to be missing. If anything the original version is very strong evidence for why complex irrational time signatures do actually serve a valuable purpose in rhythmic theory.
Also the actual time signature is 71907/40120 for anyone wondering, which sounds insane but since it doesn't actually contain any 40,120th notes it is quite reasonable for a human to accurately perform with practice.
@@TheSquareOnes I would strongly push back against the idea a "third of a 16th" at this tempo is easy to notice. For all intents and purposes, Strong One (Masked Man) is almost certainly 29/16 meter.
@@Musicombo I may have oversold it a bit a couple years ago, but I do think it's quite easy to notice. There is a video with the original looped for half an hour, go listen to that and just drum straight 16ths with your hands. The tempo isn't that fast so even non-drummers shouldn't struggle too much with that and if nothing else it should be fairly clear a lot of the rhythms are not aligning with your 16th note grid, even if their exact rate relative to that grid is difficult to track.
To be fair I am a math rock drummer (albeit trash-tier) and listen to lots of music with odd time signatures, including simpler irrational ones, on a regular basis. So my baseline for what is easy to perceive in terms of rhythm is definitely going to be different from many, but the feel is so "off" that I absolutely believe most people should be able to pick up on it without an unreasonable amount of effort once they know what to listen for.
It's similar to quintuplet swing in a way, might require a ton of practice to perform accurately but just about anyone can get into the groove of it almost immediately. This is clearly going in a more extreme, less groove-oriented direction but the core concept of "hey, something very obviously wonky is happening with the note rate" is the same.

For all intents and purposes, 29/16 is correct for this song, and I would argue it makes a lot of *musical* sense in terms of interpreting and playing around with Strong One (Masked Man).
