I think how he is improvising here is more difficult than what is done by many other better-known French improvisers. Such counterpoint is not easy to keep under control in so many parts when improvised; Liégeon has a brilliant mind.
And I loved the interrupted cadence at 4:06 with the E suspended from the previous chord V becoming the 7th of the chord VI! Just exquisite!
