Hey guys! New to your channel. We are both in the healthcare field and understand the value of getting a higher paying job to reach FIRE goals. But, the dog walker idea sounds dreamy :) Looking forward to following your journey!

I work as a School Psychologist looking at this list for ideas lol. I make $56k and I am in my 5th year. I would make over $75k after my 12th year. The job can be very high stress (i.e. Contentious meetings with parents & lawyers, responding to pressure from your administration, screening students for suicide risk, tragedy response to name a few). Sadly I don't feel like I get enough time to work with students which is my favorite part of the job along with having a great team. Looking back I don't know if I would do it again because there isn't much to do with the Ed.S degree outside of being a School Psych (at least from what I've researched).

Thanks for commenting with your experience! If there is one thing I’ve learned about educational careers it is that location and type of school greatly effect a salary. If relocating isn’t something you are interested in, have you thought about expanding to other ways to make money with your degree? Here are just some more ideas that pop into my head (just thinking out loud here):
      - Create digital products that will help kids work through issues and for other psychologists with the meetings and screenings, etc. Sell on Etsy, Amazon, TPT.
      - Start a YT channel or other resource teaching what you’ve learned and experienced. (Slow way to make extra money usually, but not always.) I’m wondering if you could contact colleges with psychology majors and ask if they would link to some of your videos in their courses. That might give you a lot of watch time as a beginner.
      - Also, if your schools aren’t paying you what you want, have you looked into other employers outside the school? One thing that I would suggest is maybe looking into working as a psychologist for foster care agencies. When we fostered, we had psychologists come into our home to work with our kids. The traveling ones were in high demand and carried a lot of power for the kids. I don’t know what the salary was, but I always assumed it was at least 75k. FYI, agencies always seem to pay people higher than the state in my experience. It’s quite possible that those psychologists had their own business and contracted with the agencies too.
Again, just thinking out loud as if we were friends chatting! I wish you a blessed future career and thank you for what you do!

@@FamilyandFI Funny that you should mention the friends chatting part. I was thinking that you both are one of the few TH-camrs with FI in your name that I would want to hang out with! You both seem very approachable :-) Regarding your suggestions I actually have made a few videos already and even wrote a children's story for my district but they haven't been used. I am hoping that I can find another way to make a difference but not within the schools. I will look into your suggestion of working in the Foster Care setting!
