Go make it happen brother. I didn't play as a sophomore in HS either. But I worked my ass off and became an all conference / district corner leading state in interceptions by my senior year. So don't think about walking on yet...you have 2 more years of MASSIVE potential for development in HS. The biggest 2. You need to find a way to play where you are now, that's step one. Don’t know if you still look at comments but I’m 19 I played basketball in high school I’m 5’11 about 155 (working on adding weight rn)but I have never played organized football besides flag football. I’m pretty athletic like I can dunk in basketball do you think there is a chance I can work at football and maybe walk-on as a db or something I’m attending UCF right now. My biggest roadblock in my mind is the facts I have never played organized football but I’m not bad at football if you get that lol.
Yo your story inspired me. I’m 17 years old and a Senior and unfortunately I’ve only played in practices as a DB and WR before quitting due to grades and injury. I’ve missed summer workouts due to a summer job cutting grass, so I guess imma just work on my body and mind, and try and play semi-pro when the next season rolls around. I’m by no means scared, just nervous to re-aggravate an injury. I’ve played head up with people who have college offers right now and I’m willing to put in that work. Do you think it’s worth shooting for XFL or A college offer and could I do it ? Because I see myself doing either music, sports, or something with tech.
So I'm a senior going to graduate this year I was going to go In the army for 3 years before going to college and I don't have film but I wanna try out for oregon do you think it js doable?
Maybe! go try to walk on at a tryout if you end up there with eligibility. Seems far away tho I'd focus on your life now if you have other plans (college football isn't really a backup plan type of thing)
Hey Clay. I graduated in 2019 however, I took my fall semester of 2020 off due to COVID. If I transferred, and walked on at my D1 school in 2022, would I still be eligible? If not, would an appeal be realistic? Thanks Clay love the vids bro.
How's it going, Clay! I have a question I really wanted to get your knowledge. So walk-on tryout season is here for college football and I'm currently in my sophomore year of community college the schools I have targeted to transfer as a walk-on at are ( Colorado State University, Okstate, and Eastern Kentucky University) I already have the training circuit ready for this spring and summer as well as the training faculty of Trench Academy and personal training from my high school in Tampa, Fl my hometown. I wanted to ask is there NCAA paperwork I have to be prepared and ready to go before I hit the gas to start training for walk-on tryouts this offseason?
Since you need 12 credits I’m assuming you can’t walk on as a freshman at the college, right? You’d have to wait until your sophomore year when you’d already earned 12+ credits
It’s not when you complete 12 credits. It means you need to be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (about 4 classes) to be considered a full time student. Once you are a full time student you can walk on.
@@clayraterman wait so I couldn’t walk on as a senior and play 4 years as if I walked on as a freshman? Assuming I would want to be at college for 7 plus years.
Hey love the vid, I’m 5’11 and 180lbs and have only played in pop Warner but was a varsity athlete in high school in wrestling. I bench 225 and squat 315, do I have a realistic chance at starting at quarterback for a juco team as a walk-on. I’m 20 years old btw.
Interesting question! I actually never had the dream or goal of playing in the NFL. Too many other things in life I want to do outside of football. Really important to know what you really want
I had a really good senior year (which is usually a bit too late to catch any recruiting attention lol) but I had some opportunities through coaches and connections to go play lower level places but was never interested or even remotely pursued any of them

I see you’re still responding to comments I just wanted to know how I’ll even walk on and I never went to highschool , I always wanted to play but never had the academics to match up
School is first, especially for walkons who don't have offers. Need to be enrolled and have the grades to even have a shot
Thanks for this Clay... really needed this. I've sent you an email
Sure thing brother! I'll check it out
Are all D1 schools required to hold tryouts?
Great question - I do not believe they are required to no, I'm pretty sure it is fully up to their discretion.
Is the guide still available? Or where can I find it
Dm me on instagram!
appreciate that bro arent u going for the draft?
lol I graduated college back in May of 2018 my man
Don’t know if you still look at comments but I’m 19 I played basketball in high school I’m 5’11 about 155 (working on adding weight rn)but I have never played organized football besides flag football. I’m pretty athletic like I can dunk in basketball do you think there is a chance I can work at football and maybe walk-on as a db or something I’m attending UCF right now. My biggest roadblock in my mind is the facts I have never played organized football but I’m not bad at football if you get that lol.
Prepare, show up to a tryout and go see for yourself! Won't know unless you try
28 next year hopefully when I get my ducks in a row and transfer from Columbus State to Ohio State
goodluck!!
@@clayraterman thanks brother
Congrats
Great story but did you make it on the field? Played in some games?
Can you choose your own position or do they assign to one?
you choose unless you choose one they don't want you at or don't need you at in which case they will change you to whatever they want
also can i walk on before applying to the college?
nope - unless you get offered a preferred walk on spot somewhere then I guess technically you'd secure a spot
I replied in other video
@@clayraterman thanks for your feedback man 🙌🏽 !! I gave you a reply back.
Hey Clay, how many years did you actually spend playing on Ohio State? Thanks for all the vids man love what you do
Junior->Senior Years of college
Hey Clay. I graduated in 2019 however, I took my fall semester of 2020 off due to COVID. If I transferred, and walked on at my D1 school in 2022, would I still be eligible? If not, would an appeal be realistic? Thanks Clay love the vids bro.
5 years to play 4 seasons I believe is the general rule of thumb
Nah they will take care of everything if you make it. Just be eligible and focus on training and the tryouts / opportunities
@@clayraterman Thanx Clay! I really appreciate the feedback bro stay blessed!🔥💯
What was your 40? And shuttle?
4.5 40 at the tryout
4.00 was my best shuttle at the first tryout (and I think I got 4.10 second time)
Great story and how many games did you dress
all of them I was there for with the exception of some away ones
@@clayraterman that's cool
Hey is it to late to walk on if you start college in august
Usually tryouts are the first week of each semester if they have them
@@clayraterman ok I plan on walking on for Kent state
@@clayraterman so it’s not to late when I enroll in college in august ?
Since you need 12 credits I’m assuming you can’t walk on as a freshman at the college, right? You’d have to wait until your sophomore year when you’d already earned 12+ credits
It’s not when you complete 12 credits. It means you need to be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours (about 4 classes) to be considered a full time student. Once you are a full time student you can walk on.
@@lucasfleming2143 Yep Lucas is correct!^ thanks dude
@@clayraterman wait so I couldn’t walk on as a senior and play 4 years as if I walked on as a freshman? Assuming I would want to be at college for 7 plus years.
@@johnmackshighlights8103 your eligibility clock starts when you enroll full time, not when you first make the team.
@@johnmackshighlights8103 correct you cannot....once you enroll full time in a 4 year university your clock is ticking
Hey love the vid, I’m 5’11 and 180lbs and have only played in pop Warner but was a varsity athlete in high school in wrestling. I bench 225 and squat 315, do I have a realistic chance at starting at quarterback for a juco team as a walk-on. I’m 20 years old btw.
no clue - go try!
So is it impossible for people who are below a 3.0 gpa
it was at ohio state yes
Did you want to play in the NFL or did you just want to play football at Ohio State?
Interesting question! I actually never had the dream or goal of playing in the NFL. Too many other things in life I want to do outside of football. Really important to know what you really want
Is it’s really worth it ? I’m a 6’2 215 Hybrid C/O 21’ ! Just don’t wanna waste my time or be n debt . Played football for 6yrs
only you can answer that for yourself. Depends on why you wanna do it
Can I walk on as a 22 year old junior??
if you still have eligibility yes...and as a junior you should
@@clayraterman ok cool thanks man. Wish me luck bro 💯
@@JabrenHarris98 goodluck!!
Did you get any offer from other school like D2. I was wondering if you turn down any offer.
I had a really good senior year (which is usually a bit too late to catch any recruiting attention lol) but I had some opportunities through coaches and connections to go play lower level places but was never interested or even remotely pursued any of them
What was your 40yard time
4.5
I'm 6-1 210.but im not really athletic but I have great skills as a receiver do u think im good enough to play at a low tier d2 school
dontknow gotry
I’m getting my associates degree in 2 years I’ll be 24 when I graduate
Nice work dude! Keep grindin
I’m 5”11 264 pounds I play outside linebacker I love popping and cracking fools in half it makes me happy 😂😂
What was your 40 time and broad jump? Do you think running a 4.7 or below would impress them or is this average for college players?
4.5 and I forget the broad I don't think we tested that at our tryout. And depends on your size and position for what will impress them
Did u end up getting a scholarship? Or nah
