Derek is by far, the worlds most premier slide guitar player on the planet right now...Do not deny yourself to be moved in your mind to heaven and then to slowly touch back down on the beautiful light soil of the Earth...While just being trancendently moved deep inside your body and soul and always so thankful for the tour through your inner most thoughts of peace and love on the trip to and from the divine...Peace to the Humans of the world
I'm sitting at my desk here at work, headphones on, grooving, quietly working and burst out laughing at the crescendo at 7:50. It fell into place and hit me like a ton of bricks!
If this song doesn't make you feel good, in a groovy, funky, soulful, fantastic sort of way, brother or sister, check your pulse, cause you are likely dead. Fantastic song. Can't ever listen to it just once.
Yeah well --- technically it is TWO songs. King Curtis --- "" is a jazz instrumental written by King Curtis (Curtis Ousley) and Luther Dixon. Curtis played the lead on a B-flat saxello, a version of the alto sax. The song was released on Curtis' 1964 album "Soul Serenade".
Just to point out to those commenting on the haters that in some cases at least they are people who got the video suggested by youtube and didn't enjoy it, so the way they can tell youtube to not show them similar things is to thumb it down. I don't think there is any disrespect to the music intended... As for me i've been following Derek ever since I found out he existed (mid 90's) reading a guitar magazine that featured duane's open E tuning and had an article about him... he's the real deal as all bues and beyond music lovers have already observed... that video where him and Mayer are playing with the King, and the King keeps asking him to solo for another chorus is priceless
this kid is 100% pedigree. duanes o.g. is great, this is an excellent tribute. as for thumbs downer, well thumbs pointin back atcha huh? on the bottom lookin up.
I didn't like this as much as I hoped I would--someone referred me to this video. I liked the first 2 minutes but I got bored after that. I wanted the guitar to really take off but it just kept noodling around. Nuance is totally lost on me. So it goes...
that link's not rasta man chant. but youre right- the live version is so good. does take awhile to build, but i think its part of the experience; similar to pfunk's maggot brain.
Rest easy Kofi
