    This piece of music covers a lot of generations, it is a protest, it is a hymn, it is a grim reality but at the same time a call for peace in the end....pop culture existentialism and philosophy united at the same time, a piece of art, thanks for composing this jewel....

    I see this as an end of innocence. How you grow up and have to pick a path and then no matter what you choose you just have to let it run it's course. I see it as saying that there's only so many options and as grown ups you have to just pick one. They chose to live fast and die young because the only other option was to go to work in an office. They felt trapped and pressured and in the end they lost their childhood to their decisions. But that's just how I see it. I understand the other ways of seeing it too.

    It came out right when I moved out for the first time and the energy and anxiety of the journey to adulthood and this evokes so many of my early adulthood memories and one of riding in the car with BFF and put my arm out of the car window. I interpret this song as being about a depressed person disillusioned with life, and coping with pain by trying to live a life of hedonism. Using drugs, gaining wealth, and having casual sex as a way of acquiring superficial happiness. And to forget about about their own problems and misery, ultimately not caring whether they live or die.
    This song sounds happy, but is actually pretty depressing. Serious lyrical dissonance here, which I personally love. Great song.

    • @galaxygirllw
      @galaxygirllw 10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Thank you so much for being intelligent. This is my exact interpretation of the song, and it blows my mind that people are taking it so literally or taking nothing away from the song at all when there is so much to take from it. I love songs like this because it's disguised as a party song because, these days, party songs are the most likely to become popular radio hits. However, the words and the message behind the words are meaningful. If you stop dancing and drinking and actually LISTEN to what he's saying, you'll learn something about yourself and your lifestyle.

    This is actually a really strong message. Thinking about the lyrics makes me wonder just how many people out there feel the need to lose themselves in drugs, sex, and money just to feel real. And how many others put masks on to hide what they're going through. Whether this is about Hollywood dipshits or not, it's still an awesome song, and if someone is blind enough to read into it and go "That's what I should do", they need to rethink the meaning of it.

      THIS is how I look at the song. Sounds good and is fun to listen to but has deeper themes than most people realize. Some people are getting upset on here because they're taking the words at face value, but if you look deeper into it you'll realize it's actually a kind of depressing song.

    This song is great. Really depresses me though because it's so true... we lose who we were when we are young and now we have to act like everyone else in society or people will not accept us. And if they don't accept you, you will be lonely..

    Great lyrics and riff - we're only fated to pretend if we follow our Western culture and social conditioning. If we educate ourselves to make money outside the system of working (i.e. trading the financial markets) and educate ourselves to maintain our health, and have good intimacy in our lives and children that will survive us and be our future, then we have a purposeful and fulfilling life. If we depend on and subscribe to the education we get in schools, universities, and at work, then we're fated to pretend within that system of conformity and ever-increasing competition. We cannot be ourselves and reach our true potential or have a family in a way that doesn't compromise our own lives too much within the system expected by Western society

    I actually don't feel sad when I listen to this song. I feel actually numb to negativities. Most are striving to fit an ideal that we don't agree with. Few reach self-actualization because of societal construct holding us back. This song just resonates with that feeling and gives way to the feeling of denial and resultant self battle.

    Ended up bawling to the part about the singer how he's going to miss his family and dog. I had a fallout with a friend that i liked and respected. I shouldn't have placed as much value in them as I did. I tried to patch things up but the person didn't want anything to do with me. The whole process broke me down. I wanted to kill myself, but I have other people to look after. A line later says about missing the time being alone. Loneliness hurts but its beautiful when we have time with ourselves and our interests. Anyway..wish everyone the best..

    My perception of the song is that they (the artist) or every other music artist, sign themselves up to a road where they have access to drugs, models, fame and prefer to live this fast paced life than a life where they sit down and do paperwork. But even though they have this life that most people find amazing, these artists have lost connections to friends and family leaving them with nothing but their fame. They reminisce about their childhood or simpler times but now it is too late to turn back and everything has to "run it's course." even up to their deaths. Anyone see it differently?

      But it's universal in the sense that we all have to "grow up" one day and move out and strike a life out all on our own without our families and friends to really help us along and try to find that perfect job and love and establish your own family and this song makes it clear how absolutely shitty that is no matter how far you make it onto that wheel (at least in the states). And the only people who have fun in life are the ones who maintain those friend and family connections and try to make a difference and feel important. Some feel good by having someone to love, either physically, romantically, or platonically. While others none of these things matter and the only way to feel is to get drunk, get high, lose yourself to the cycle of drugs and alcohol to forget about the pain of your life.

    It's not a sad song like some are saying, it's basically reiterating what Bill Hicks used to say about how it's all a "ride". He was into psychedelics and understood this, same as these guy's. He would say "on the news today, a young man took acid and realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves."

    I pray for anyone out there that listens to this song in a way that they relate. I know you have heard what I am about to write many times but I just want to say to somebody out there that has their ears open to hear and hearts ready to receive, Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart, ready to break the chains of addiction or any bondage to sin you have. Surrender your sins to Him and believe in Him. What He did on that cross was to save us even though we are sinful, He loves us and wants us to turn to Him. Don’t love death but love Jesus Christ. ❤️
