Oh Rita - I’m so glad you were inspired by that video. And you are so kind in your compliments of me, thank you! Wow, this is a beautiful book! Don’t you worry about the cutting part! One side of the binding seems always to be more glued and difficult than the other, so you did really well. The older ones are also more brittle - it’s pretty standard for it to be difficult to save the spines on these old RD books - you did very well. Those illustrations are great, aren’t they? The pages are sometimes too brittle to use directly as a journal paper or card, but if you keep them flat, I think they are still useful. I don’t usually do much further decorating of them, just use the blank parts to journal - so your instinct is right on about the weight. But individual books aged differently depending on the way they have been stored, so some books are better than others for useful papers. I also, almost always trim the journal papers down a little, even if I have to cut into the picture some, so that it’s smaller than the journal page. I love the way your elements turned out. This is going to be a beautiful journal! You are also very good at this - well done!
I just had to come back and see this video that I missed. I wanted to see how you got it all started. I absolutely love this hardcover. Just fabulous! Love and light ❤️🤗
Kathleen does beautiful work and she's an excellent teacher. I look forward to seeing your take on the vintage journal. I love the soft muted colors you got going. Putting the rub-on on fabric is a great idea. I would never have thought of that.
Love the idea of "no particular theme". Most of mine are that way. The pages of your book are so beautifully aged! Kathleen starts and stops her videos, so it seems that she goes fast. Don't worry about that, we love to watch you.
PS: I would use black too. The light thread wouldn’t be so visible. ❤🫶🏽❤️ You sew so well Rita. I would definitely want to show my stitching(not my stitching but your stitching) 🙈🫶🏼🥰
Good morning Rita. Glad to see you back at it. I have a bunch of Readers Digests. Your makes are very pretty. 98% of the time I use black thread. I started just using it because I got sick of switching the colors out. Hehehe ( I know I am lazy ) Have a great day. ❄️❄️❄️
Enjoyed watching. Trying something different is refreshing. Using up all the pages of a book I take apart is something I strive to complete. I did make templates of Kathleen's tags, but noticed she does not put them in her journals. That's ok~ they have helped me when I feel stuck. Keep resting, and stay warm and toasty. Best wishes~ Valerie.
I just have a dark brown thread on top and white in the bobbin of my hand crank machine. The white gets colored when I ink the paper. Too lazy to change colors. 😅

I have always wanted to make a non-themed Junk Journal! 🤗

Yes, black thread is so easy to work with! I'm lazy, too about changing the thread especially the bobbins! 🥰
