I got to film this tour of Dawn and Maxwell’s home. I’ve filmed a lot of these tours but no one has been as warm and welcoming as the two of them. Dawn offered me coffee as she was finishing preparing her van and Maxwell settled nicely in my lap during parts of the recording process. I lost two dogs last year and seeing Dawn’s ability to carry on and tell Daphnes inspiring story has helped me to deal with the grief from my losses. My partner and I have adopted a new puppy now since filming this. And while it’s not the same as having our old dogs, we find peace and purpose in remembering their legacy and pouring our love into the new pup. And Dawn has helped us to do that. Thanks Dawn for letting me spend a few hours with you hearing your story and thanks Maxwell for being such a sweet boy and carrying on Daphne’s inspiring legacy. I lost my first dog in 2018 and it was devastating. But I learned to view it from a different perspective. It was no longer a loss but a celebration of his life. He had lived a full life of 18 years and it was a wonderful life. I always loved him and I spoiled him in his old age. It was time for him to go, dogs at that age are often in pain. It was a merciful for him to go. And he lived the best life possible. And I decided I wanted to give another dog a great life. And that’s what you’re doing. You’re giving another dog a great life. Just like those that passed. So when the time comes, I know it will be sad. But know that you gave this new dog a great life and it’s time for them to go. Be happy and grateful and be ready to give a great life to a new dog.
It’s amazing that Daphne takes care of these lovely blind animals that most people would not consider. The van is so thoughtfully designed for the special needs. Nice updates by Jonnies Journey!!!

Took Joe,my blind(20yr) chihuahua & Sam my deaf Jack Russell mix(19yr) on the road. Joe went blind prior to leaving. I was able to bring the rug he & his buddy who passed, ate on every day& the bed they shared. This helped tremendously letting him feel safe. I can never properly express what these years brought to me. Joe passed in 2019, Sam 2021.

Love your van. I could definitely live in it. I just don't have the creative gene to design one!! Lol.. My mini schnauzer was blind for prob 10 of his 17 years including removal of one eye. He managed very well in my condo, my sister's home and rv. He loved his walks too. Just letting people know many dogs adapt quite well. The books should be easy to find and are available around the world. I do have a song that I wrote about Daphne and then I edited it after she passed so now it includes Maxwell. One of these days, I will practice the song enough to record it for our channel.

Consider also the purchase of a WiFi signal booster to also boost your WiFi signal. Research to see what you prefer. *Very Inportant: Invest in a SOS distress electronic signal device, this a kind of device can send out a distress signal with your exact location. There are various types of these devices, and including devices that can be used when boating, or camping situations. *Some have emergency Strobe lights SOS signaling with location alerts, and location updates that can be sent to your family, and emergency first responders. Be Aware that Sometimes even a battery that is a few years old can fail in the Winter months, and extremely cold temperatures. Some alternatives to Winter Camping, Travelers, Explorers, etc, if you can find a Warmer Climate Location to stay during Extreme Winter months, or stay with family for a few weeks. Another alternative is renting somewhere although this can probably get expensive. Don’t forget to bring Bear Spray Pepper spray Where is allowed Purchase a couple canisters just in case and keep it with you If you own a drone you can use it to survey your area for animals etc. However, Please Be Safe and Beware of your Surroundings. Stay Alert, and Be Safe even when stopping at Rest stops, Truck Stops, and conducting your various tasks. Keep in often contact with your family, friends etc. Keep up with the latest Weather Updates, beware and prepare for unexpected Weather events and conditions. *VERY IMPORTANT* *WINTER AWARENESS* I would suggest *NOT* to travel to locations without internet, or cellular service in the Winter, the reason is that weather conditions can change very quickly, and you absolutely DO NOT want have a vehicle break down, or malfunction, or emergency, and not have the availability to communicate, and contact your family, and or, emergency road assistance, or emergency services. Please Keep in mind that even in area where there is cellular service and internet, in the Winter sometimes there are ice storms that may occur and this can cause Power or Electrical failures, until utilities crews repair lines. *Your Safety is Important* *PLEASE BE AWARE* that in some extreme cold temperatures that vehicle fuel lines could Freeze and causing a vehicle to not start. Just in case Keep your gas tank filled, which helps prevent vehicle fuel lines from freezing. Keep gas or fuel line additive, or gas line antifreeze, that is rated to use okay for your vehicle. Check with your a certified mechanic and your vehicle owners manual, and or dealer repair facility to inquire what is best to prevent freezing gas tank and lines in extreme cold. In the Winter even your bottled Water can freeze so Be Careful and Plan ahead. *Safety is Paramount* *Your Life is Important* *You want to Live to Travel another Day* *So Be Safe* *Stay Alert* *Keep your vehicle gas filled* Don’t ride on fumes, or on Empty. Don’t chance your Safety by running your vehicle fuel or gas too close to Empty. Fill it up anyway, it will save you alot of time, and headache later on. Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, antifreeze coolant, Please carry extra (oil)(washer fluid), (brake fluid), (antifreeze). You will need extra Winshield Washer fluid because of the ever changing Weather conditions, dustly roads, especially in slushy wet roads. *WINTER AWARENESS* In the winter consider purchasing and deicing Windshield Washer Fluid, for the much colder weather conditions. Furthermore, you will need extra Windshield Washer Fluid, Because you will Be driving more often in dusty, dirty, windy, and varying weather conditions. Your windshield will gather dust and debris from long term driving. Also, Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set at a home base, friends or family’s house to rotate later on, also make sure that you have a spare tire in your vehicle. Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very. Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Electric, Portable tire pump. Keep towing insurance to Be Safe, your will have it if you ever need it. It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling. Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors. While I can see she takes great care of him, I can't get past "the dog" and "the blind dog". I've had disabled pets all my life and can't conceive of referring to them in such an impersonal way. One wouldn't refer to a blind parent as "the blind mom", etc. I suggest she refer to her dogs, past and present, by name, in order to be less offensive to those of us (and there seem to be a many) who feel this way.
We get it, Maxwell is the dog. The blind dog. The dispassionate way she keeps referring to her pets has got me wondering if Maxwell really needed to have his eyes removed... or if she needed to keep up her branding strategy with "the dog."
Things were built for Daphne and now used by Maxwell. Sometimes I can’t really name one or the other. “I” did not have Maxwell’s eyes removed. It was a necessary medical procedure done before I adopted him because his previous guardian did not have his eye conditions treated with simple drops. I adopted another blind dog because I was equipped for one, I had the experience, and they need a loving home like everyone else. He also helps educate people about adopting pets with special needs.

I am curious and a bit confused to why you refer to your pup companion, Maxwell, as "the blind dog" over and over again...rather than just call him by his name? 🤔 It sounds impersonal and disconnected. I understand you are selling a story that nurtures awareness of dogs with this specific challenge/ handicap, but since we understood this point after the beginning of the video, why was there a need to repeat this label so many times the entire video?🤷🏻
Probably because she has had more than one blind dog live in the van. And she is referring to the construction of a vehicle specifically to be accessible for a blind dog. I had the pleasure to meet her at a meetup and I have never met a kinder and dedicated puppy mom.

I would suggest *NOT* to travel to locations without internet, or cellular service in the Winter, the reason is that weather conditions can change very quickly, and you absolutely DO NOT want have a vehicle break down, or malfunction, or emergency, and not have the availability to communicate, and contact your family, and or, emergency road assistance, or emergency services.
Please Keep in mind that even in area where there is cellular service and internet, in the Winter sometimes there are ice storms that may occur and this can cause Power or Electrical failures, until utilities crews repair lines.

*PLEASE BE AWARE* that in some extreme cold temperatures that vehicle fuel lines could Freeze and causing a vehicle to not start.
Just in case Keep your gas tank filled, which helps prevent vehicle fuel lines from freezing.
Keep gas or fuel line additive, or gas line antifreeze, that is rated to use okay for your vehicle.
Check with your a certified mechanic and your vehicle owners manual, and or dealer repair facility to inquire what is best to prevent freezing gas tank and lines in extreme cold.
In the Winter even your bottled Water can freeze so Be Careful and Plan ahead.

Remember to keep up on routine maintenance, check your tires for wear, keep up with your fluids for your vehicle, like oil levels, antifreeze coolant,
Please carry extra (oil)(washer fluid), (brake fluid), (antifreeze).
You will need extra Winshield Washer fluid because of the ever changing Weather conditions, dustly roads, especially in slushy wet roads.

In the winter consider purchasing and deicing Windshield Washer Fluid, for the much colder weather conditions.
Furthermore, you will need extra Windshield Washer Fluid, Because you will Be driving more often in dusty, dirty, windy, and varying weather conditions.
Your windshield will gather dust and debris from long term driving.
Also, Remember Because you are on the road riding for sometimes very long distances, and long periods of time, I would suggest investing in 2 sets of tires, and a spare, the extra set at a home base, friends or family’s house to rotate later on, also make sure that you have a spare tire in your vehicle.
Check the mileage ratings on your tires they all very.
Conduct visual inspections of your tires often, check for damage, wearing, air pressure, etc
Keep a pressure gauge to check your tires pressure and a tire pump. Electric, Portable tire pump.
Keep towing insurance to Be Safe, your will have it if you ever need it.
It Doesn’t cost much try to get National coverage if available, or where you will be traveling.
Keep Extra financing, and savings for any unexpected issues, vehicle repairs, and overnight stays, in a emergency or if you need to rest indoors.

While I can see she takes great care of him, I can't get past "the dog" and "the blind dog". I've had disabled pets all my life and can't conceive of referring to them in such an impersonal way. One wouldn't refer to a blind parent as "the blind mom", etc. I suggest she refer to her dogs, past and present, by name, in order to be less offensive to those of us (and there seem to be a many) who feel this way.

We get it, Maxwell is the dog. The blind dog. The dispassionate way she keeps referring to her pets has got me wondering if Maxwell really needed to have his eyes removed... or if she needed to keep up her branding strategy with "the dog."
Things were built for Daphne and now used by Maxwell. Sometimes I can’t really name one or the other. “I” did not have Maxwell’s eyes removed. It was a necessary medical procedure done before I adopted him because his previous guardian did not have his eye conditions treated with simple drops. I adopted another blind dog because I was equipped for one, I had the experience, and they need a loving home like everyone else. He also helps educate people about adopting pets with special needs.

I am curious and a bit confused to why you refer to your pup companion, Maxwell, as "the blind dog" over and over again...rather than just call him by his name? 🤔 It sounds impersonal and disconnected. I understand you are selling a story that nurtures awareness of dogs with this specific challenge/ handicap, but since we understood this point after the beginning of the video, why was there a need to repeat this label so many times the entire video?🤷🏻

Probably because she has had more than one blind dog live in the van. And she is referring to the construction of a vehicle specifically to be accessible for a blind dog. I had the pleasure to meet her at a meetup and I have never met a kinder and dedicated puppy mom.
Thank you Monica. That’s exactly the reason. Everything I have and built into the van was originally for Daphne. Now I have Maxwell. So I’m really speaking about both of them and their special needs.
