I had several Kitchen Aid dishwashers that did not last. The last one was exactly like the one you had. It had problems with the control panel, drain pump, and circulation pump motor. These parts were replaced over a four year period. Then it quit working again. I went to the appliance store, and bought a Maytag. It turns out it is exactly like yours. Finally, a dishwasher that actually works. When it runs it is so quiet, and cleans your dishes. There is also a very small screen at the bottom of the Maytag that you have to clean as well. Once a month, I run my dishwashers without any dishes inside, and put a package of Affresh dishwasher cleaner inside them. I don't understand how Whirlpool which owns both Kitchen Aid, and Maytag has let the quality of it's Kitchen Aid dishwashers go down hill so fast. Maytag has a better dishwasher, and I have owned both brands.

Wow! We literally just went through the same situation. Our old dishwasher started leaking causing water damage. So we decided to go with the LG dishwasher that you spoke about that was on sale for $729 at home depot. The old dishwasher was 20 years old and like you I had no idea about dishwasher maintenance. We haven't installed it yet because we're waiting for the contractors to finish replacing the old cabinets that had water damage.
Sorry to hear that you had such terrible water damage. That LG was looking nice, but the salesman sold me on this one. Either way, I think they are both good. Let me know how you like yours when you get it installed!

Maybe just reviewing the owner's manual regarding maintenance and care would've probably saved you the inconvenience... Just saying.
