Gracie Jiu Jitsu has taught me so much in my life it's my passion to learn the uniqueness of this style & how it is spreading through out the Nations & the World.
my main gripe against that psychology is that it's mainly competition oriented, which is fine, and I have even personally seen it work in full contact competition...but the guy took a lot of damage, though he did win at the buzzer. But personally I hate the whole "come and get me" mentality that pervades bjj thinking i.e. 'pulling guard'.
The one thing this is missing though is that he doesn't control the other guys legs first before turning to his side which can allow the other guy to take you down by falling back and wrapping his legs around the your body while applying the choke.
I needed this as a wrestler. Thats the worst when youre going in for a double leg and the guillotines usually their first go to submission. Nice video!
I'm curious, I just had class a few days ago and we were learning a number of different grips/way to execute the choke and one was to push palm-to-palm into the opponent's neck, which placed considerable more pressure on the carotid arteries. Isn't that still a guillotine choke?
Is there an alternative if the guy is much taller? As I see this technique being troublesome if the guy is much taller than you as it may be hard to get a good grip over the shoulder
Just got guillotined today. We were in more of at kneeling (standard roll start) and I got my hand in because I thought I could hold it off and it didn't work. I've seen a couple escapes, but he kind of pulled me into closed guard and from there I *LEARNED* and used my tap escape :) Thanks for the video...I will study it and practice! OSS
@1lostinspace It's a cool choke but all you really have to do is not get your top arm tied up when he goes to your side and it's a moot point. The choke shown here however ... not so much.
@luizinho81 If you're that "real MMA fighter," their dojo is in Torrance, CA, and they will fight anyone who shows up. I'm sure they'd be glad to accomodate you. Be sure to tap.
whats the difference if you have side control with both knees touching the opponent compared to both legs out wide with a strong base like in this video?
I'm not sure of the advantages of both knees touching the opponent, because I've never really used that in training (I haven't trained pure BJJ, although these Gracie videos make me really want to). It would seem to give you greater mobility at the expense of being easier for the opponent to roll you, and makes for a slightly easier transition into full mount. However, you can still make that transition from one knee touching/hips on the ground, with the added bonus of maximizing pressure on the opponent like Matt said. When your hips are glued to the ground, you can expand/roll your chest up to their sternum while squeezing in with the elbows, creating very uncomfortable pressure. I've heard it called "the fifth (or perhaps more appropriately, 'the third') hand," meaning your torso expanding down on them from this position is like having another hand to hold them down.
I got caught in a gilliotine in a street fight 2 days ago by some punk. I used this defense, no hurry, got him to the ground and mounted him. Thank you for this video and all the other videos!! It really is all STREET!
I love JJ but only for a ground fighting . Technics in the stand are better in Krav Maga or Kapap. They r faster and easier. Here we are landing on the ground still in the guillotine but our goal is to get to the defense in a first seconds , next seconds should be a finishing seconds. That's my opion cuz I know very well defences against guillotine from Krav Maga and Kapap and this technics is loosing with mentioned by me from other combats.
@chuteboxe5 How is that possible? simple, there is no comparison between them and roger gracie and Demian Maia. The thing is: Rener e the other are good teachers, but not competitors. You can notice the difference of a graduated competitor and a graduated guy that does not compete.
What about reverse guillotine headlock? Kimura counter? That happened to me on the street I tried a leg bar missed got pinned belly down two guys kicking my head for 3mins Never seen those guys in my life
no disrespect but how in the hell do they have so many stripes??? Roger Gracie and Demian Maia two of the sports best and multiple world champions are only 2 stripe black belts and these guys seem to have 5 or so...how is that possible???
I know casuals always come with superfluous criticisms, but one small point: don't jump to high when going to the outside because it makes one vulnerable to a neck drop (aka ddt).
i love how he says," even a layman can choke you out" i guess thats what the gracies call people who don't practice jiu jitsu. makes it sound like a religion
@MrMZaccone BJJ apparently looks very weak as they only deal with one onto one. What happens if there is multiple attackers. Do you want to go to the floor. You have MINIMUM mobility on the floor and there is more chances of defending yourself on your feet if face with many attackers at once. stop defending BJJ and THINK...BJJ IS BETTER AS A SPORT. It makes no sence in BJJ as a martial art if there are NUMEROUS attackers onto ONE. However I like their ground fighting abilities.
it depends: once i was attacked by an asshole, it was just like boxing. Some seconds or minutes later one of his friends jumped on me and we went to the ground, i guillotined him and he couldn t move anymore, meanwhile the first motherfucker plus one more, tried to come closer and smash my head, but since i was on my back, every time they closed the distance they got a nice kick on the knee. It was this way till the cops arrived. this was in BA in 2013
@luizinho81 No art can reliably defend against multiple attackers and any that claim to be able to are lying. No, all of the Gracies have NOT been beaten by mma fighters.
HEILO GRACIE IS SCARD TO FIGHT KYOSHI INGRAM FROM NYC HE CHALLENGED HIM MANY TIME HE DECLINDED (212) 566-2200 "Karate - the deadly art of survival taught by Kyoshi Nathan Ingram, 8th degree black belt, 19x bare knuckle champion. I would love to see Marcel Garcia abuse Ryron and Rener Gracie, and i know he would easily. Garcia has been abusing current ADCC competitors like nothing. He would have an easy time walking through these 2 Gracie brothers. Not that they are easy competition, but we're talking about Marcelo Garcia here.
Gracie Jiu Jitsu has taught me so much in my life it's my passion to learn the uniqueness of this style & how it is spreading through out the Nations & the World.
Used this and it works, saved me a trip to the hospital. Awesome video and great instruction. Well done guys
EXCELLENT video. i can really tell you guys have the heart of a teacher. love the passion for the sport. keep up the great work guys!
They are such good teacher. I am on the gracie diet for 2 days and already feeling different. I recommend it!
Awesome! Do you have a Guillotine Defense in closed guard? I got choked because I couldn't get to the side in north and south.
"Let them exhaust in a meaningless position". Classic Gracie Jiu Jitsu.
and, if you feel like it, you can slap on the von flu choke, so they exhaust in a meaningless position until they pass out
my main gripe against that psychology is that it's mainly competition oriented, which is fine, and I have even personally seen it work in full contact competition...but the guy took a lot of damage, though he did win at the buzzer. But personally I hate the whole "come and get me" mentality that pervades bjj thinking i.e. 'pulling guard'.
@@jonassteinberg3779 I would say if theyre able to deal damage it isnt a stricly meaningless position like the one referred to by rener here
The one thing this is missing though is that he doesn't control the other guys legs first before turning to his side which can allow the other guy to take you down by falling back and wrapping his legs around the your body while applying the choke.
Couldn't you also apply a Von Flue choke from that side mount position?
+evolve749 yes, von flue is right there. just gotta make the hands connect
I really love his energy and the way he breaks it down seems like a real.genuine person 2 ❤
@1lostinspace "Von Flue" renamed for Jason Von Flue, who used it to finish Alex Karalexis in 2006.
I needed this as a wrestler. Thats the worst when youre going in for a double leg and the guillotines usually their first go to submission. Nice video!
3:00 "it's all street... its all legal"
this is the best guillotine choke defense ive seen and this was well taughtwell done
I'm curious, I just had class a few days ago and we were learning a number of different grips/way to execute the choke and one was to push palm-to-palm into the opponent's neck, which placed considerable more pressure on the carotid arteries. Isn't that still a guillotine choke?
The Gracie way is beautiful.
Is there an alternative if the guy is much taller? As I see this technique being troublesome if the guy is much taller than you as it may be hard to get a good grip over the shoulder
grip his shoulder or even behind the neck, the principle is to hug him tight so he can't apply choke, and so you can move with the attacker

Ryan
Can u describe what u meant with your hand. I'm trying to learn as many guillotine escapes. I only got two this one and a shoulder.
@1lostinspace It's a cool choke but all you really have to do is not get your top arm tied up when he goes to your side and it's a moot point. The choke shown here however ... not so much.
These dudes are awesome haha. They really break things down. I like how they make references to street fights too.
Nice and clear guys! Thanks for giving us your art and letting the rest of the world run with it (even 10th Planet guys like us ;-)
all the best!
Can you use the arm that's around his shoulder to lift him after he tries to lift you?
Why Rickson did not do that with Funaki?
@luizinho81 If you're that "real MMA fighter," their dojo is in Torrance, CA, and they will fight anyone who shows up. I'm sure they'd be glad to accomodate you. Be sure to tap.
I was the very first person to watch this video.
Good job as allways guys.
Love how practical they are. No complicated bullshit.
Great
whats the difference if you have side control with both knees touching the opponent compared to both legs out wide with a strong base like in this video?
The weight on the bad guy is a lot more when the knees are off the ground.
I'm not sure of the advantages of both knees touching the opponent, because I've never really used that in training (I haven't trained pure BJJ, although these Gracie videos make me really want to). I couldn't catch that grip used to defend against the arm of the choking person. Was that a monkey grip or a regular one?
if you hag his neck in side control while opponent have a guiltoine from side bottom you can have kind of arm triangle
I got caught in a gilliotine in a street fight 2 days ago by some

Wish you blokes where in perth.
Just lost a tourney because of this. Shouldve watch this video 1000 times.
this is a very nice demonstration.......as always from these two.
Yea, it'd probably be easier to use as a respiratory choke rather a blood choke.
At 1:13 can't you von flue choke him?
Renzo has a second way with your shoulder which is more practical from most positions.
I wouldn't say more practical but if it's locked in too late the shoulder is the last ditch.
Does any one know how to defend from the marcelotine - guillotine with forearm blocking shoulder (elbow up)?
Maxim V you can´t...
+diegoeme1 lol😅😅
Wow. Thank you.
thanks guys i got cought in the exact same one and my sparring partner lifted me off the ground and i didn't know what to do from then on
@mattyblues101 these guys ryron and rener are cool as hell, I met them before it was a great experience
@chuteboxe5 How is that possible? simple, there is no comparison between them and roger gracie and Demian Maia. The thing is: Rener e the other are good teachers, but not competitors. You can notice the difference of a graduated competitor and a graduated guy that does not compete.
Hate being guillotined, I’ve been injured twice in this position, I almost feel sick when I’m in this position now.
Nicely presented boys. Thank you.
What about reverse guillotine headlock? Kimura counter?
That happened to me on the street
I tried a leg bar missed got pinned belly down two guys kicking my head for 3mins
Never seen those guys in my life
i can't teach this technique without teaching the von flue anymore!
I think thats up there in Rener's funniest lines.
no disrespect but how in the hell do they have so many stripes??? Roger Gracie and Demian Maia two of the sports best and multiple world champions are only 2 stripe black belts and these guys seem to have 5 or so...how is that possible???
I lost in a competition for NOT doing what they demonstrated, important to step the opposite side to what you are being choked.
Awesome vid. Super effective stuff
bro this is super useful thanks!
Wouldn't it just be like a rear-naked choke? Only difference is you're in front of him. Your bicep on one side of the neck and forearm on the other.
"But it can also save your life against a punk who knows nothing about anything and just wants to choke you out" - haha, Rener is hilarious!
I know casuals always come with superfluous criticisms, but one small point: don't jump to high when going to the outside because it makes one vulnerable to a neck drop (aka ddt).
These gis are amazing
i love how he says," even a layman can choke you out" i guess thats what the gracies call people who don't practice jiu jitsu. makes it sound like a religion
@SteelCity1981 One thing at a time, dude.
Gran video
whooo great instructing. thanks
this is awesome
I like this one
My fave drill
1:54 He said "Even a layman can choke you out" I thought for a split second he said "laimon".
That's some good stuff!
@MrMZaccone

I like to go to the von flue from here.

@IamVeryFrozen Nobody cares but yet you keep replying back to me again and again which just shows THAT YOU CARE enough to respond.
Nice
this was fucking awesome! loved it! epic techniques GRACIES #1
@slouttop At the risk of repeating myself. No art can reliably defend against multiple attackers and any that claim to be able to are lying.
awesome
im not saying that hes wrong i just thought it was funny that he uses the term layman
WHILE YOU ARE ON THE FLOOR STRIKE HIS GROIN..... SIMPLE....
@MrDasilva8383 You gotta compete too if ur a martial artist? why? respectfully you dont know what your talking about
huh ha "Its all street its all legal" thats too cool.
That ain’t going to work against a black belt. Why not show what you would actually use.

because the tosser fighting you may not have much a one to hit... lol
Huh?
@IamVeryFrozen I can say anything i want. TH-cam is a forum where people express their opinions freely. You don't like my opinion? TOO FUCKING BAD!
Jump away from the choke.

PSH... Who takes BJJ advice from Gracies anyway? ;)
Get off the nuts!
