Thanks for playing with us! If you want a second part, submit your own ballet-related “would you rather” questions in the comments of this video. Let’s make part two happen!!

Have to perform on dead pointe shoes or Have to perform on ugly and small point shoes that don’t fit you no more.

I'm not a dancer so I played, "What would I rather watch the two of you do?" and when I heard the phrase, "Would you rather be thrown onstage last-minute..." my excitement and imagination got the better of me.
An empty stage. The orchestra repeats a phrase once, twice, three times... A nervous audience shuffles its feet uncomfortably... and then... Jordan and Eden appear from the wings, haphazardly and ungracefully cartwheeling through the air to land centre stage with looks of shocked bewilderment on their beautiful faces. The orchestra strikes onward...
Now THAT's a ballet I'd watch every day!
Can we make it happen? Somehow? Please?

With the missing your cue I did once at a dress rehersal. One of the people was supposed to come get us ( most of us were around 12-14 ) and they were so angry! Me and the rest of the people in my role thought that it was really unfair that they were so mad at us.

Hi! I'd love you to make this a series! Would you rather...
...have a teacher who ignores you the whole time or a teacher who corrects you ALL THE TIME?
...forget your pointe shoes for a competition or your whole costume?
...dance in your dream company as a corps member (you would have to stay in this position) or any other company as a principal?
...do only barre or only centre?
... wear a colourful leotard without a skirt or a black one with one?
... wear your tights over or under?
    Yeah, I guess that's it 😅

WOW thank you for these great questions! Part 2 is going to be fun 😉😂

  • @Chloe-do6wg
    @Chloe-do6wg ปีที่แล้ว +18

    1. Director that doesn't speak my language.
Like Eden said, a director can probably act out the correction that they're gonna tell me. And the director might speak the same language as my partner :)
    2. 64 count grand plié.
I don't like developpés, I think my legs would also give up like halfway if I did a developpé and when I'm doing a plié both my feet are grounded plus pliés are usually at barre, so I can just hold the barre ;)
    3. Come in too early.
I guess it kind of depends on where I come in. Because in the black swan pas de deux if I come in too early, I can just hide between the guests and just quietly wait.
    4. Corps in Swan Lake.
This was harddddd! With swan lake you have to be great with timing and like synchronization because of the other swans. But with la bayadere, I feel like the places are more intricate, at least for me, and if you stand in the wrong spot the audience will see it. And I like the swan lake corps costume better, plus Tchaikovsky.
    5. Ahead of the music.
Like Jordan said, you can just stretch out the steps to like get on the right rythym.
    6. Do ethereal characters for the rest of my career.
I loveee ethereal characters!!! Their costumes are great and the steps are light and airy, which I am good at. Plus the stories are sooo emotional and they make you connect with them before, mostly, dying.
    7. Do the principal role.
I feel like I could memorize the steps and it also depends at which part they want me to take over, if it's like the end of the middle act and the whole final act, I would do it. And my perfectionist mind would probably push myself to be the best I can be so I could have more principal roles.
    8. Dance on brand new shoes.
I feel like dancing on brand new shoes would make me feel safer like it would support me.
    9. Music cut through halfway.
I can just hum the music internally.
    10. Midnight show.
I cannot wake up early without somebody waking me up. Midnight shows would probably make me feel fresher.
    11. Tall beginner.
I can just help him learn the steps.
    12. Improvise.
If people told me to teach a different style I don't know, like as a substitute, they would probably be really confused at what I did.
    13. Dance on tile.
They didn't say I had to dance pointe shoes! I can just wear my flat shoes
    14. Unlimited stamina.
If I have stamina, I can practice more. Therefore, flexibility would also be there.
    15. One person that I love.
    Introvert here!
    16. Learn a piece in 10 mins.
    I have pretty good memory.
    17. Slow conductor.
If the conductor's slow, I'll have time to think about my technique.
    18. Blank out in the corps.
If your in the back, nobody will see you. And if you blank out in a pas de deux, people will notice.
    19. Break character on stage.
I would probably try to hold my laugh, but fail and just laugh when my back is facing the audience.
    20. Perfect feet.
Turnout is like practicable, it's more trainable. You can't change your feet.
    Those are my answers!!! 😜😜😀

Would you rather have a costume malfunction midway through your performance or have your hairstyle come loose?

    • @dronesclubhighjinks
      @dronesclubhighjinks ปีที่แล้ว +5

Costume malfunction specifics: would you rather that the straps on your top came loose which might result in exposure, or not that the tutu falls off, but that it is very noticeably bent or halfway off. That would make it really uncomfortable. I think it might not be that embarrassing losing a tutu or skirt (compared to the top falling off) because you're used to dancing in a leotard anyways, right? The way I phrased it, I mean for it to be an embarrassing, ridiculous, completely unforeseen occurence comparable to the top coming off. I definitely would not wish this on anybody, even if I really couldn't stand them.
The top coming loose situation happened in the 2018 Olympics with an ice dance team from France in their long program and they were extremely close to winning the gold medal and omg what happened?! You can look up Papadakis and Cizeron short program, wardrobe malfunction. 😬

Last year, we had to unexpectedly replace our Doctor Coppelius 36 hours before the show- the person who was willing to take over was in theater and great at improv, but the collective stress of replacing a role in our club (where the choreographers are also dancers in the performance) wasn't fun.
For the partnering would you rather, though- I'm a short person who likes taking on masculine roles, so any time I've done partnering it's been primarily with me as a shorter partner. I feel like it necessitates more practice, but height isn't the main reason I'd find partnering hard (I have an irrational fear tied to a lot of partnering, so I tend to get shaky and nervous when it comes to it)

Would you rather learn and prepare a male role that demands new-to-you technique, or rush through learning a female role ?
Would you rather get on stage for a PDD with overly dead shoes, or change to flats last minute ?
Would you rather lose a fan or a hairpiece on stage ?

Lol jumping in midway but i rewatched lol let’s go: Director who speaks another language, 64-devlope, come n early because you can do some improv. I also play some orchestra instruments and I was thinking about that too, and I’d rather come in late during that, because you could pass it off as being artistic and just really into the music, but coming in early shows you aren’t one with the orchestra and don’t have good musicality; the Swan Lake; come in early, ethereal characters, solo I already mastered since I’m so new to ballet, but it was REALLY cool hearing y’all’s seasoned ballerina explanations I would love to get to that point 👌😮‍💨; mushhh I’ve seen when ppl can’t get over their box, please heavens no; omg music cut out forrr sure; 5am for me; taller;improve what I don’t know because that feels funner; concrete; unlimited stamina, you can work on flexibility; one person I loveee; choreograph; way too slow; blank out in corp; break character; perfect feet. Phewwww this is a long one but I loveed it. Y’all ate and are great, this was so fun!🤍😀😮‍💨👌

Good question! “Perfect feet” for dancers usually means having really flexible feet/ankles with a high arch/instep. Aesthetically, it finishes the line of the leg the best and also mechanically it is easier to dance with proper alignment if you have that range of motion. My answers:
    1- Director
2- grande plié, I already do 16 count ones to the one that they feel fast
3- I've done both, too early is better than missing
4- I haven't done either, in fact I've never seen la bayadere, so swans on most days, on adventurous days I'd say shades for something new
5- ahead of the music, because I'm already that way
6- my first reaction is ethereal, but I'm not committed to this answer
7- again, I've done both and of prefer last minute principle. I always learn ALL of the dances and going back to watch things from years ago, I remember my parts the least. I'd actually do better doing a role I wasn't taught. 🫣
8- I currently have Gaynors and Blochs. If it was gaynors, brand new; if they are blochs, dead.
9- I've had the wrong music before, never again. I pick cut out!
10- I never get warm, so warm up isn't the issue. But who would attend the 5am show? Midnight
11- tall beginner, shorter partner is too dangerous
12- I've done both, don't recommend. I'd say improve is better, teaching an unknown style feels so much worse.
    13- I've done both, concrete.
14- I was going to say flexibility, but Jordan convinced me, stamina is the way to go!
15- 10,000 strangers. It would be my one and only big show.
    16- learn a new piece in 10minutes.
17- depends on the piece, but majority of the time, slow.
18- I'm on the fence, my gut says in the pas de deux, you could find ways to communicate with your partner and figure things out, if you follow the corps, you will look behind constantly. But ya'll have more experience with partnering.
19- ribbons come undone, I could find ways to work in fixing that as the character, but breaking character messes up the story.
20- perfect feet. My feet are shaped so well, I have so little pain in pointe shoes, which makes movement and balance more free and natural. Perfect turnout is an illusion.
