Found this old review video I had done and figured I'd share it. I have a bunch of Fall rides stashed to share over the winter months, and I'll be doing a "winterize" video too. Timely since today it is snowing in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
I got My Vitpilen 401 recently and I am approaching the phase where I need to start understanding what basic maintenance I should do and how to do that. Will you have a comprehensive video? I found some old vids of yours explaining stuff here and there!
@riccardocattozzo2579 For me, basic maintenance is cleaning the chain (I do this about every 500 miles) and following the maintenance schedule in the manual. I’ve done the occasional oil change ahead of the schedule, just for peace of mind because a few times it looked pretty nasty in there. My daily checks before I ride take care of some of the other stuff. 1) Tires. I always give them a good squeeze to make sure they aren’t low. I’ve had a few instances where I’ve needed to top them off and once found a piece of metal embedded in the tire but not deep enough yet to puncture, so I just removed it and check the tire pressure for a few days. The tires do have tubes in them, so in this case, that’s a good thing and the tube was fine. 2) Bolts. They come loose. Get some Loctite (thread locker) for bolts. Any time I do an install, I use Loctite on the bolts. I also re-secured the licence plate because it is prone to coming loose. I lost one, almost lost a second. I did this when I installed the bar end mirrors too because bolts…. 3) Clutch position and tension. I adjusted the dial on the clutch to bring it closer to my hand, and then I also mucked around with the tension down where the line connects; there are two nuts and you can adjust the tension pretty easily to get it to your liking. I do have a video on this (just haven’t posted it yet). For me, there was no slack in the clutch when I got it back from a service appointment (as soon as you pulled it the tiniest bit, it engaged; I wanted more slack). I noticed that the quickshifter works poorly if you have too much slack, so I rode around and adjusted the tension to get it to a point where I liked the clutch tension and the quickshifter was operating smoothly. I’m still new to maintenance myself, so I get it serviced at the intervals, but outside of the schedule, I do a few things myself so that I can start working through the list of items and eventually handle most of it myself. That’s worked well. I can bite off reasonable items little by little instead of trying to do a bunch of them all at the service interval. I would probably do that if I had more than one motorcycle. That way I could still ride one while I wrench the other, but I just have the Svart right now. 😃 I talk about some of this here. th-cam.com/video/YDrm-7ZJFXU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=138FeGGFxVd1aL8W Happy riding and congrats! It’s a fun, peppy little machine.
@ridingwithgravity401 I love you. Sound like a lot to handle, will try to do it all one step at a time. I'm not even at the 1st service so I kinda have time
Bang-on with your review. I also have 2022 Svart…I’m 5’8 and bought Icon stormhawk riding boots - pricey but now able to flat foot & feel much more secure. I’ll have to glue a piece of fabric/leather cuz of the silly stubby gear lever wearing down that area of the boot…btw, the quickshifter is one of those parts that require computer hookup (programmed) for folks who don’t know _ unfortunately only Husky dealers have this setup for this bike.
Saw lots of review videos about the 401, and now is the time to thank you for your reviews and comments. I m now a proud owner of a 401 (2 months) and I can understand and share your enthusiasm. Happy riding and keep up!! 💪🥂
What was the exhaust mod u installed again? I wouldn’t mind seeing a vid on the installation process…a nice clear audio capture of the exhaust tone would be great too - thanks for the awesome vid
