Big Facts was my favorite podcast but the vibes & execution been bad all year imo, especially since they changed studios. It's become a struggle to even try to watch
Bad audio, guests have been either ehhhhh or wasted potential, the interviews don't have any sort of structure, they're either looking down at their phones or just staring off like they're bored.
Big Facts Friday was the 💎 that I anxiously waited on every week.
But sadly it fell off last year when it was obvious tension between hosts ("you heard what she said"). Now it doesn't even drop at all. Shakeback to the basics that got us here.
What book did he say?
Mu's story is very insightful. My take, with a substantial amount of experience in business and contracts...AE wasn't that guy. Cappin like many "bosses" do. Whoever he borrowed money from had high tier lawyers who provided him that contract and knew it had a high chance of tricking unknowledgeable artists who couldn't afford competitive council. They drafted the contract to be predatory unbeknownst to all parties directly involved, and did so to benefit on the top end from their percentage taken from AE.
AE probably 100% didn't know what was in it or the ramifications, but couldnt do anything once he found out without compromising his entire business and future. He was still making more than ever also, so no reason to fight for a young unknown. Likely why he claimed he didn't truly recoup. Looked like he did on paper, but he was likely not keeping a large majority of that money himself, but enough to make the partnership worth it for him at least and keep the artist starving and dependent.
Likely very common for the smaller ops.
I wish I had more contacts, because I could/would love to protect these younger and more established figures in our culture safe from these games played. I've been in corporate all my life, and at a high level for half of that. Working together, truly, instead of catching up later and learning incrementally from massive mistakes would take us so much farther...
So would you say the contract was made only as a ploy to get “Hittin”?
@@sugequeenin5463 Not at all. The persons who drafted that were not looking at that granular of a level. That was likely what AE saw that attracted him to the talent and saw the opportunity to make more, but at least to get a good payday from that song. The contract itself was operating at a higher level, IMO, and was used to maximize profits from the talent, as well as from AE by design. These contracts are designed to capitalize at a macro scale, when offered by someone borrowing money from a larger entity. The design just captures the opportunity and disadvantages the artist passively. The artist is just a commodity, which is why they take it so personally.
