Agreed. The backups played a SEC schedule every weekend the entire season and managed to stay on the field. Venables must've been trying to say something with the "availability being your best ability" quote.
Did you see the QB production this season??? Why do u think the WR's are jumping into the portal? We basically should have run the wishbone again like the academies. I think Arbuckle was a good hire though. Get dudes in the portal. Also, give scholarship to the walkon WR from Southlake Carrol, TX. He was our best WR (Stoops starter kit only better athelete).
You think? As a fan, I like moving on from players who aren't able to compete at the SEC level. The key is don't become attached to players on the team. #Boomer
2 things should be looked at. WR recruit evaluation. All these players leaving WERE recruited. Evaluate the training staff and their ability to get players healthy and back on the field.
its wild how the insiders to tell fans to chill out when Bigger teams like Bama and A&M are already hosting better players to come while OU only focus on G5 players ....
The portal has some positives though. Most of the players that enter the portal don’t fit in to a team’s long term plans. It clears out dead wood and allows coaches to find better players that fit their system and allows players to find an opportunity that’s better suited for them. Being recruited out of high school is a crap shoot for both coaches and players, so a chance to read the landscape and get a reality test is beneficial to help create a better long term outcome.
When is OU gonna be done with the good ole boy system CHEAT TAMPER CALL PLAYERS BUY THEM. It's legal now cmon Oil tycoons buy us some players from SEC and Big 10
They can't! OU compliance suspended their own coach this year for text messages from over a year ago. The equivalent of going 67 in a 65. Between them & the medical staff it's a wonder we can even field a team
I just seen that too. I didn’t expect that loss on defense. And after just two days of the portal open, we dont have any receivers left. My goodness, what is going on in Norman ?
Injuries and production matters. Why would any team/University continue to pay for athletes who are not available. This is the other side no one is talking about. No contract, no responsibility. Getting a "bag" sounds great until you're injured and can't play.
Usually when you have a guest like Josh, you allow him to speak more than 30 seconds every 10 minutes of recording ?? This is a really good pod because of Josh, when he is speaking cuz he is the man. If not, this is just like listening to parker and drumm talk about they have a source of a source of a source that asked me not to say but ??? 80% Josh 20% this duo
This is pro ball now. Ive caught flak for mentioning that but we got the right to point that shit out. As the Hall of Famer said, "No one is bigger than the program." Except now that very same program will shell out 1 mil plus a scholarship and insurance and get nothing back. We'll get strays from directional schools and get the obvious results. This Program better learn the lessons, have the AT&T guy play hard ball and get business-like right back at these players if they wanna be "injured". Im curious, are Schmitty and BV too tough or are the players not tough enough to take what they agreed on and just do their damn job? They're paid, i would think work ethic is implied as long as the checks clear.
This is a situation where we need immediate production versus upside potential a year or two down the road. That’s why we’re rescinding HS offers for guys that have shown they are capable of making 30-40 receptions a year and be durable. No time for projects with high upside.
I firmly believe a lot of these players have come to the realization that the chances of them going to the next level are slim and none and Slim left the building!!! Whether they were processed out or left up by their own accord to get some last minute NIL PACKAGE!!! Speaking for most of these athletes I understand this may be their last chance to make a statement, but whether it’s culture loyalty legacy does that mean anything anymore really!!! Wait till they get to the NFL if they’re very very lucky in college it may work that you have 10 excuses why you can’t do it but in the NFL they want the one excuse why you didn’t do it !!!
NIL is good, but nowhere near elite. I've emailed 3 times, have yet to hear back from them. We're losing recievers bc they're mishandled & there's no trust w this training staff. Players paying for their own MRI's is inexcusable & should never happen at a school like Oklahoma Anybody remember how bad the field looked this year especially against Tulane Gameday atmosphere they provide is lame, bad, boring, dull. They have no idea how to energize a crowd. They certainly know how to blame fans for it though, ya know the ones they beg to fund NIL. We're a blueblood of the past we're not one of the future & if the culture was as great as they pretend it is we wouldn't be losing this many players to the portal year after
I’m kinda done with college football. It’s sad when the NFL has more loyalty to the team than college guys. I know how to fix this, if all colleges agree to start taking guys from the portal, loyalty will return. Zero chance colleges would adhere to it
Why is the athletic department never held accountable for how bad a shape this program is in. I'm not even mad at the players or coaches this level of failure goes beyond them...
Good. Let’s get rid of all those wide receivers and anybody else that milk their injury all year so they didn’t have to play so they could enter the portal once the season ending
OU has a huge portal need at the QB and OL & TE positions. So I'm wondering: Will spending big on those positions limit the dollars OU will have available for WR's?
Not a good point Jorge. Sure maybe those 4WRs only had 22 receptions combined but because of that we had the worst offense in the country. You only make that kind of statement when you can follow it up with “and we were fine“.
It’s been a roller coaster tbh but I’m calmer than I thought I’d be. Also thinking maybe we won’t deal with anymore injury’s next year considering there all leaving lol
Yep. I get it and I don’t. Was a dominant situational player. But if you can’t keep that type of player then you can’t expect to compete for championships.
RMT was injured the majority of last season. This year was his first full healthy season. So I’m not buying the whole availability is best ability crap. If that was the case why hasn’t Jake Taylor been “processed.” In the end, this is all about money
Really? What about R. Mason Thomas, Trace Ford, David Stone, Adepoju Adebawore, Davon Mitchell, Zion Kearney, Danny Okoye, Eddy pierre-louis. You forgot a few that need to stay
With only 105 players allowed on rosters now. If you are fragile and often hurt you will find yourself being processed out. Players can leave every year and coaches can't wait for 2 years for a guy to get healthy. Just the way it is now.
We don’t want guys who are hurt. Also let’s throw a shit tone of money at a guy who has a history of bad injuries. Dumbass staff man. Can’t wait till they’re fired next year.
My goodness I never knew OU football could get so bad so fast. I am getting tired of paying $500 per seat each game (not considering my yearly donation) to watch bad football. If BV doesn’t win a lot more than 2 SEC games next year I will cancel my tickets. FACTS
When these pampered kids go on multiple visits fo they pay their own way? Ya know flights aint cheap it amazes me fans get upset when other fans trash these paid professionals that can just sit on a bench and live free for 4-6 years
The NIL has absolutely ruined college football. I’ve always preferred college football over pro football because players in college played with passion and commitment to the university. That’s no longer the case. It’s now worse than pro football. No commitment. No passion. No long term players. Why buy a jersey with a players name on it when he might be a one year wonder? There will never be any more legendary players like Steve Davis, Billy Sims, or the Boz. It’s ust the minor leagues now. If they are now just paid players, then let’s get a contract with penalties to be paid back to the university for leaving early.
"Your best ability is availability" So let's give a lot of NIL money to a guy who missed 6 games and has a history of head injuries.
Sounds like OU to me but usually when I point these things out I'm a negative Nancy and a troll?
Something very very odd happened with that WR room…. It wasn’t just injuries. Something is off.
I totally agree something was going on behind the scenes.
Agreed. The backups played a SEC schedule every weekend the entire season and managed to stay on the field. Venables must've been trying to say something with the "availability being your best ability" quote.

Makes wonder if Oklahoma is doing something wrong but ll teams are threw it. Kids going for the money bag no team loyalty
