From a global perspective, M.J was the biggest artist. He was bigger than Elvis and The Beatles. He was huge everywhere.

I don't really intend to defend her because she's a piece of shit, but Spike did sort of bring it up first by joking about the "transformation" thing and seeing as how they sort of discussed MJ's career sequentially from the beginning.. I think it's fair to sort of bring up him having this eccentric image that was often seen as off-putting, be that correct or incorrect. He was pretty much the biggest superstar of all time and considering that's what he was.. his public image is worth discussing. I get that she was under educated on what she was talking about and didn't bring it up in a very tasteful way though. In fact, I think that *maybe*, aside from recent controversies, a lot of people have either forgotten that MJ was seen in a negative light by the public at large for a long period of time or they are too young to know about that. It may be a positive thing in a lot of ways that that has been forgotten, but also it's a part of cultural history and needs to be known for education purposes.

Nobody's perfect but there definitely some who are outright predatory and past of that is sadly trying to slander and defame those who consistently try to do better and be better and live hard. While I respect Spike Lee, he said it several times - "that's all forgotten now". "That" stuff should have never even been an issue. Those who weren't vocal when he was alive SHOULD HAVE BEEN. After he dies it's too late to express how much you loved him. RIP MJ.

Michael changed people's perception of race by illustrating throughout his life that it doesn't matter if your appearance is "black or white." Race is not a color, it is a function. Rev. Al Sharpton said it best at the July 7, 2009 Michael Jackson memorial service, "To the children of Micael Jackson, wasn't nothing strange about your daddy. The media downplayed his songs because they didn't want his albums to sell. Not only that, when Thriller came out, there was no internet, so there wasn't any music piracy on the level it is now. The only thing I didn't like what that Spike didn't correct her about the "skin bleaching" comment. MJ only depigmented his upper body because he was a public figure and couldn't go out into the spotlight with his vitiligo showing. I'm sure if he did, the media would have been making fun of him about that too and making up lies. They'd probably say it was a "skin bleaching" process gone wrong, knowing the media. Also, MJ had great hits on 2001, they just didn't want to give him credit.

    You are so right...
I hate the fact that they did that to his album....
And you know how MJ was, he wanted that album to sell more than it did and it couldve but they didnt promote it purposely...And he knew that! It makes me feel bad for him, but his real fans appreciate it and that's all that matters..

Michael Jackson was to the music world what Laurence Olivier was to the film world, masterful, magnificent and mind-blowing...Michael was bigger than Elvis and The Beatles, combined!...David Cassidy was a huge teen idol, and, perhaps, came the closest to the kind of fan hysteria that Michael created, but, unlike Michael, David lacked lastability and the kind of monumental commercial success, throughout the decades, that, Michael had..The world is better off from Michael Jackson having been here.

It was very nice of Spike to talk about MJ's life and legacy in a positive way. He also made a great tribute video.
    Katie on the other hand...??
Did she ask how long has it been since MJ had a hit??
That's like asking how long has it been since Aretha Franklin had a hit? How about James Brown or Elvis before they died, were they in the top 10? IT DOESN'T MATTER!! Michael has had enough hits that will last generations from now. He is a legend, period.
Long live the KING OF POP!~

I agree, the trolls get to me a little, but they are just entertaining themselves in whatever lame way trips their trigger. (Sad world, eh...where hurting people is fun!) However, it is the regular Joes that genuinely believed whatever the media said about him that I try to enlighten. Problem is, if they either don't like his music or think he was a bad guy, what is going to make them look into the truth? I think only mainstream media can right the wrongs they did!

I agree MJ's best work came with Dangerous and later. His later tours were amazing! He did not see the world as skin color. He viewed it as music, art, and love. He gave credit for his success to both black and white artists before him. Teach children to treat each other better, and you have a real chance at improving the human condition. MJ was a wise man. He was striving to get to the root of the problem with children.

And, I am bipolar myself and personally think that anybody you may think to name a 'genius' or that produces work or art to that standard, has a mental disorder.
If you look at almost any significant artistic or even non-artistic figure in history that has achieved the level of 'genius' production, they were either diagnosed with or exhibited the symptoms of either bipolar, ADHD or OCD.
And the key to 'genius' is obsession. Natural talent (genetic luck) + mental disorder (obsession) = genius.

i still feel like there were no facts presented in this video... i can understand not getting into the politics but he really tried to save the world on his own. the tortured this man and killed his spirit, took away his trust, left him feeling lonely... accused him of the worst he spent the last 12 years of his life defending himself...and for those who think he's guilty your opinion is important but what are the facts? no matter what book he had in his house what did he represent. this man didnt even want to step on a bug on his stage so he called security. he valued life, he valued loved he loved his peers he did everything right and it still wasn't enough all he wanted was love but he never ould get that. the thing that he loved most in this world his what took him away his career and children...people still are trying to get money from him, take away his legacy and torment his kids...really even if he is guilty let him REST. the people in this world will go to the extent to prove him guilty. im really not out here trying to convince people he is innocent i just put the facts up and allow you to draw your own conclusions
