This is the best romance by far. Her hidden mercy when she was a child, the guilt she feels about what happened to her brother, her experiences with peasants on the surface and her amazingly well-written arc of fear, insecurity, survival and tenderness... and her tragic epilogue. It's just perfect. I've always loved Viconia DeVir. The whole Bhaalspawn saga shoud be in HBO.
She was honestly the only girl I ever wanted in the whole series. I wanted so bad for her to not be full on evil. Not necesarily good (I hate goodie 2-shoes characters more than evil characters) but a meeting in the middle at true nuetral.
Viconia, the 40 level priestess was...poisoned? Viconia who survived Firkraag, Irenicus and Demogorgon was poisoned and didn’t have “slow poison” memorised? I am not even sad it is just ridiculous. I just finished BG2. Btw her 40 level husband didn’t have protection from poison scroll or money to pay a cleric for resurrection? If main character is cleric it makes everything even more hilarious.
Viconia was my favorite romance option. You had to be just the right combination of caring and asshole. Definitely the hardest option to choose. Aerie being the absolute easiest. Her ending is sad, she and probably keldorn are my favorite characters, Rest easy, my dark maiden.
Tbh looking back they really didnt know how to write women well. My pre teen hormones would bite at anything thrown at me but now I'm like damn, none of this is healthy.
This was back in the day when the ultimate goal and peak of a romance plot in a game WASN'T sex. Today that's almost unheard of. The most touching ending alongside Minsc's, though for entirely different reasons.
Only a tragic ending is appropriate for her tragic life , still she lived two centuries , managed to find love and peace , unfortunately everyone die at some point . . . EXCEPT SHE IS BACK
I've just remembered how MAD I was at the developers after seeing this ending. Why did they give my favorite companion the WORST ending of them all.....:(
Oh my god as I'm reading this, i get goosebumps and tears in my eyes... Never did a game move me like that. Fare well my beloved Viconia... What a sad story...
"All agreed that the child of Bhaal never forgot the love of his dark maiden" Couldn't have said it better! I hate that she was poisoned, This is the wife that, once your kids are grown and have kids of their own, you take by the hand to the Armoury. After arming themselves to the teeth they take their death march on to the field of battle. How I would have worded the ending.... "Child of Bhaal and his Dark Maiden, suffering from a thousand wounds, Embrace each other in death surrounded by the corpses of their enemies"
Send an army of humans, dwarves, avariel (winged elves),moon elves, gold elves wild elves and grey elves. Humans attack the main Drow Cities with siege engines and have Drizzt attack Menzoberranzan. have the Dwarves and Elves assault the Demonweb Pits with a minimum of level 20 characters. Epic Characters are welcome hire adventurers and heroes that are level 25 of all classes also bring a former priestess of Lolth. Also hire a Archmage who can travel to Eberron,Dragonlance,Greyhawk and hire more
It could be a sort of final battle "suicidal charge" deal, where you know you're gonna die, but you're taking that bitch Lolth with you for killing your beloved Viconia.
I've been playing RPGs since Ultima games - back when I could hardly read - and Baldur's Gate was one of those that set standarts for other games. People talk about Skyrim: sure, it has fancy bling bling, but it is nowhere near as epic as modern day hype-fanboys claim it to be. Those same people see games like Baldur's Gate and are like "dude that haz shit graphiks! who can play that shit!" - games had soul back then, even if they aren't visually impressive today. Skyrim doesn't have that spirit
Oh man the memories of ths game s just so overwhelming Viconia ties with Aerie at being my favorite romance in this game the Viconia romance ending was the saddest of them all next to Keldorn's I always tear up when I see Viconia's ending be at peace my Dark maiden for you will always live in all our hearts
@humdrumfeast In my game I even had her wearing a ring for most of the game that gave her "immunity to all poison," so the odds of her dying from poison seemed negligible. I also don't understand why she wouldn't stay with the protagonist if he became a god. I mean then he could probably make her into a demi-goddess or something, and regardless there would be no way she could stay dead if Lolth tried to kill her. Lolth would be declaring war on another god by doing so, for that matter.
Never made it to the end when I was first playing. Thanks for posting this (and all the other endings). It got me fired up to get a copy of the game and start playing again (not getting enough real-world sleep but that's a small price to pay). So double thanks actually. Re: the sadness of the ending. Please remember that the storyline was intentionally dark, we were meant to feel much sadness, after all one of the main programmers died either during the making or marketing of the game. That'sLife
So far as I know, it's the same ending. I'd like to think Viconia's soul was saved (did she turn to Eilistraae instead of Shar if/when her alignment changed?), but apparently Lolth claims her in the end while the PC fights the spider queen somewhere in the Demon Web pits to get her back, or so it says in the expansion.
Of course I liked it !! I woke up this morning thinking about it, and they could almost have made another BG with this ending + the son's story. Or someone should make a movie about BG saga, or even a serie ! That would be amazing :D Btw I printed this ending so I can remember it for the rest of my life haha, BG is all my childhood so this ending made me turn the page on this uncomplete ending :P Thanks again mate ;) and sorry for my poor English :D !
Why does it occur to noone that her words whispered in private were along the lines of "Remember the antidote always makes me ravenous"? In BG1 we were being constantly poisoned by Hob's etc, so she'd be immune to all the poisons of the planes by now. Also WHY would "protagonist" and son engage in a crusade against the drow when she's drow and he's half drow. Shar was involved in pulling the drow away from Lloth to save, not destroy, them.
Well, i am late as shit, but i despised this ending, like, you are level 30 MINIMUM at the end of ToB, you are a MYTHIC ADVENTURER, you telling me two of them can't go out and kick the shit out of a lone goddess for trying to start shit?
Can someone tell me, if you have all three potential love interests in your party - Viconia, Jaheira, Aerie - do they have three-way arguments over you? I only had Aerie and Jaheira, but I think it'd be cool to upload it again and watch all three of them bicker with one another:D
There's a new ending for her romance if you install a mod, and it is out there for you to find!! Of course, best ending for Viconia would be not romance her so she can become like Drizzt (No more spoilers... Even though I just commented on one?)
You must play Dragon Age: Origins. It is made by Bioware and is the "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate. Trust me; Bioware is just as amazing-- if not more so-- as they've always been, and the same guys who did Baldur's Gate did DAO.
Between the characters in a rpg(pc or PnP) there is ALLWAYS some bickering especially if there are alignment issues it can be a problem but it´s also quite hillarious!
@slay555pt I agree with everything you say but i didnt even take Keldorn to my party cause he would fight with her and i didnt want the problem that I need to kick Keldorn out of party in spellhold
Dude, this ending you made was absolutely brilliant !!! I seriously have no word to describe how good it was to read it, and I cried like a baby several times aswell.. Now I feel so much better about Viconia's ending, they will be forever together, watching their son grow, no more pain in "protagonist" heart and no more pain for me :D. Well.. maybe not (Viccy :'( ) But anyway, tank you so much for making this ending, it is exactly as it should be. Now I still have to lay down and cry a bit more
I just finished playing TOB with Viconia and got her to change her alignment to true neutral. I got this ending when I finished that game. Is there a different romance ending for Viconia if her alignment stays at neutral evil? Will it allow her to remain with the protagonist when if he becomes a god, for example? Thanks!
Never got this ending, always got stuck on 43 "lovetalk" :- / I tried every option, but she always got mad and stoped interacting with my character, so i spilled her guts out... :D
What's the name of the mod? I've tried finding mods that add things for Viconia, but haven't been successful. The mod you mentioned sounds like it would be a lot of fun!
This ending totally sucked for BG2's femme fatale..! Getting cheapshotted by some random drow is no way for the last of De'Vir to die..! Viconia was easily the most interesting romance for me. Aerie was too air-headed and Jaheira, apart from being one of those infuriating success-oriented types just seemed wrong to go after, seeing as she had just lost her husband (who was the man, if a bit skittish).
Someone answer please. SPOILER. I'm at the end of her romance where she wants to leave. If I let her leave, do I NOT get this ending? Do you only get endings for party members? ty
Ending a bit too sad tbh. She just died from some poison? Just like that? After all we've been through? No rod of resurrections or clerics to rescue her? No wish spells? I know it's somewhat fitting, though. Viconia hints lloth would never let her go. And to her credit, she was right.
The best narrative romances are always the bittersweet ones. I mean if it just ended happily ever after would it really have been as satisfying? After all we were warned of the consequences.
This is the best romance by far. damn, just finished the game after- what?- 17 Years? That ending hurt more than I am willing to admit to myself.
Tbh looking back they really didnt know how to write women well. My pre teen hormones would bite at anything thrown at me but now I'm like damn, none of this is healthy.
I not even a big fan of Vinconia, I much prefer Aerie, but this was touching.
This hurts my heart still ❤❤
Poor Viconia. my favo character from all RPG games. I will never forget Viconia ma darling...
This story was soo epic... never played a game like that again. I wish i could forget everything and play it again and again.
This was back in the day when the ultimate goal and peak of a romance plot in a game WASN'T sex. Today that's almost unheard of.
The most touching ending alongside Minsc's, though for entirely different reasons.

It's been about 11 years now, but I still kind of tear up when I re-read this.
your comment is 11 years now also
Wow! I actually teared up reading that epilogue with the Saradush Theme. Right in the feels....
Bioware at its Best! Best and biggest rpg ever released. So much fun and moments i will never forget in my life.
Black Isle too :)
I know! I had her equipped with the periapt of proof against poison when I finished ToB, too.
I still love Viconia more than all my girlfriends
Viconia, my first girlfriend... Damn it is 11 years already? Time sure is passing fast
Reading this comment now is a mindfuck of epic proportions. 19 years ago for me! wth.
And now it's year 2023
I've just remembered how MAD I was at the developers after seeing this ending. Why did they give my favorite companion the WORST ending of them all.....:(

Hold back the tears!

I hate Boulder's Gate cuz of this damn ending :/ Touched me too much, she is dead :'( Well i can get back to Viconia in Skyrim atleast :(
Oh man the memories of ths game s just so overwhelming Viconia ties with Aerie at being my favorite romance in this game the Viconia romance ending was the saddest of them all next to Keldorn's I always tear up when I see Viconia's ending be at peace my Dark maiden for you will always live in all our hearts

So many sleepless nights! That was gaming like reading a book and making new one world for yourself

My friend played this game a lot and everytime I saw this ending a almost started sobbing!
Probably the sadest ending of the game!
Of course I liked it !! I woke up this morning thinking about it, and they could almost have made another BG with this ending + the son's story. Or someone should make a movie about BG saga, or even a serie ! That would be amazing :D

I love this open ending!
You´re so right. That´s the same thing i thought.
@Andreware I wouldn't mind a three way with Viconia, Jaheira, and Aerie.
This Makes me cry
I REALLY HATE sad romance endings. Especially if someone dies. Just make everyone happy and give'em a happy ending.
This is A tale
@Cavscout5096 Amazon usually has it for the lowest price around.
@Biake22 u only get endings for party members and DO NOT HER LEAVE! because she will start the romance again in TOB
Hence the romance in the title. The other one is uploaded too.
Agree. For me DA:O is the best game of this Gen, but Baldur's Gate is the best game of the history.
@nachtschattenuser
You mean Prism from BG I? You could allow him finish his work but then he dies anyway...
My Feelz
@Silencerof Try Planescape; Torment ;) Though still, BG has had, and always will have, a very special place in my heart.
Well, i am late as shit, but i despised this ending, like, you are level 30 MINIMUM at the end of ToB, you are a MYTHIC ADVENTURER, you telling me two of them can't go out and kick the shit out of a lone goddess for trying to start shit?
supposedly, Throne of Bhaal was to be the 3rd game. but it ended up as an expansion. short of funds, or somesuch reason. i don't remember.
Can someone tell me, if you have all three potential love interests in your party - Viconia, Jaheira, Aerie - do they have three-way arguments over you? I only had Aerie and Jaheira, but I think it'd be cool to upload it again and watch all three of them bicker with one another:D

Holy Shit! People read the shit I write!
On a more serious note, I hate unresolved conflicts and had to finish the story. Glad you liked it :D
isnt her name viconia devir that would mean that two devirs survived the house's siege by house Do'Urden in the book homeland
@MahajiHaji That's why you have Dragon Age!
Best game in the world

There is a Mod out for Her in Skyrim. Grey DeLisle, epic Voice Actress.
@Silencerof You´re so right ;)
@StarControl69 Yes but they'd have to use the EXACT same dialogues
thank you reading it right now
No that did'nt happen, my Char and Viconia lived happy ever after... damn you bioware she deserved a peaceful, loving life and to grow old(er)...
Can someone tell me what the Edwin's romance mod changes for that ending? I'd like to know what the epilogue is in detail.
+Redem10 I don't know any details but I've heard it's supposed to be happy. Going to give the mod a try because this ending sucks.
@BGEndings Actually, they do happen. I had all three in at once, when in Amn's sewers, and that shit got EPIC....
I have a fanfic written just for that purpose, if you're willing to read it.
this interface is broken....The REPLAY button is only pausing the video :(
please does anyone have romance ending with wiki if you accept bhaal's place as a god?
Dude, this ending you made was absolutely brilliant !!! I seriously have no word to describe how good it was to read it, and I cried like a baby several times aswell.. Now I still have to lay down and cry a bit more
He didn't make it. This is just the ending of Throne of Bhaal. A lot of them are actually sad :(
I wanna get this game, know where I can find it without spending an arm an a leg?
I don't think there are any three way arguments over you. Although I believe there are two way arguments between each pair.
could you send me the link ? I would love to read it
NOOoooo, Vicky, NOOOOooo :*(
I just finished playing TOB with Viconia and got her to change her alignment to true neutral. I got this ending when I finished that game. Is there a different romance ending for Viconia if her alignment stays at neutral evil? Will it allow her to remain with the protagonist when if he becomes a god, for example? Thanks!
claiming the throne is a better ending for viconia
one of best npcs in the game.
Never got this ending, always got stuck on 43 "lovetalk" :- /
I tried every option, but she always got mad and stoped interacting with my character, so i spilled her guts out... :D
What's the name of the mod? I've tried finding mods that add things for Viconia, but haven't been successful. The mod you mentioned sounds like it would be a lot of fun!
I got her for TES4:Oblivion
i read that the worship of shar means youre not allowed to love, does this mean that viconia does not worship shar once she loves protaginist?
Viconia died with the good RPGs.
I hate you Bioware! :(
dead? OMG NOOOOOOOOOO
@Silencerof i wish i could do that with every game i played :)
Must.Destroy.All.Servants.Of.Lolth.
This ending totally sucked for BG2's femme fatale..! Getting cheapshotted by some random drow is no way for the last of De'Vir to die..!

This romance is second to Neera gahaha
Sadly, the best things in the world are coming with a heavy price. ;(
Someone answer please. SPOILER.
I'm at the end of her romance where she wants to leave. If I let her leave, do I NOT get this ending? Do you only get endings for party members? ty
What did you think?
Ending a bit too sad tbh.

I know it's somewhat fitting, though. Viconia hints lloth would never let her go. And to her credit, she was right.
i love her! :( why ;( why!? no fuckin' way! i come with you my love....
whos lolth and why did a servant of hers murder her?
This I have too see
@missemilyliz11 ^totally right
GANG BANG!
@humdrumfeast all you need is abit of xp, and a big-ass diamond eh? nth much for a high level character
fanfiction/s/9123020/1/Viconia-s-Vengeance-Lolth-s-Bane
so sad
lol i chose the path to become a god
The best narrative romances are always the bittersweet ones.
I mean if it just ended happily ever after would it really have been as satisfying? After all we were warned of the consequences.
Modern bw rpg goal is not sex ether.
