    Thank you for still going! My daughter's mother recently played my homemade TCG with me about 3 times and it was really helpful having to truly break down every single thing lol. There's only 3 keywords in my game: COMBO, SAGE & VANGUARD.

      Exactly. Never underestimate the value of someone who is alien to the type of game you wish to design. They will poke holes in everything, which is perfect and vital in the early stages of development.

    This was hilarious.
    Though, I think the player doesn't need to be able to guess what a keyword does. I think the function of a keyword is more of, you get it explained it once, then you forever remember it.

    • @ShardTCG
      @ShardTCG  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      This is a good point.
      A lot of flavourful keywords fall under that category.
      Whereas, for example, graveyard rarely needs to be explained.

    I didn't do much better than Kate if I'm honest. Even if basically every mechanic ever could have the question "Which Magic mechanic did we rename to this?".

      True, the list of magic keywords goes on and on. It's at least a great resource for these kinds of videos

      @@ShardTCG Yeah definitely. The hardest ones are always when it uses the same name as a different game. Couldn't get my mind away from Battle Cry still being Magics Battle Cry.

    I really liked the concept of this video.
    An improvement that could be made is to instead of giving her zero context tell her the quick rundown of how he came functions. Because I think she would have nailed charge with just a little context.
    Maybe teach her Magic to give her a basic TCG experience to connect all her video games knowledge to.
    Kudos on trying a new video format 👍

    The experiment has one flaw: The person knows NOTHING about the games she's guessing the keywords for. Keywords are a little easier to deduce what they do if you know the basic rules of the game.
    She DID get exhaust right. "bench" is a way to say "tapped", and 6 turns was a guess, not meant to be pricese.
    The flavor or armor purge is: Your attack destroyed my armor, but the armor protected me from it and I survived.
    The game I'm developing has simple keywords: Defender (can tap to block an attack directed to another character). Piercing (damage can't be prevented with armor). Fast (it causes damage first). Long range (don't receive damage from defenders without long range). Stealth (can't be attacked or blocked).

    • @ShardTCG
      @ShardTCG  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'll be honest, I did want to mess with her a bit, so I'll openly admit some of the keywords were unfair.

    • @Zetact_
      @Zetact_ 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Armor purge is also a semi-common "move" in Japanese media and the exact flavor is more like when a character is pressured for an attack they explode the armor off their own body to disorient the opponent and keep fighting with a more speed-oriented style. I think a lot of it is inspired indirectly from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure specifically because Silver Chariot was one of the first noteworthy examples in media of that sort of thing being used, but it's also present in series like Kamen Rider Kabuto's Cast off or one of Chris' techniques in Senki Zesshou Symphogear.

    I wish to show you my card game card types, to show you the wide range my cards can stretch, it's more than a card game:
    Yield: You produce items, and results, here are the following sub categories.
    Machine cards are stuff from a catapult to Mechs to AAA guns.
    Item cards are either materials, tools & weapons, Armour, or other misc stuff like medicine or edibles.
    Construct cards are your structures like castles, buildings, or just any kind of structure like a water fountain or a big giant moving fortress.
    Engagement cards are your actions cards, these represent actions taken by you like in Flesh and Blood or tactics used by your units like a special technique they use. Basically you do stuff, you intervene.
    Arc: These cards represents the core of the game, characters and the stories they behold.
    Kara cards are your units, creatures, minions, whatever you want to call them, but they are characters from the many, many, many stories available to meld into a deck.
    Event cards are special events, these stay on the field and- I can just sum it all up as MTG's Saga cards.
    Memoir cards are the flavour of the game, no practical use other than the art of story telling, or can I make it happen? I am the creator after all. These cards tell a story through a character's perspective.
    Record cards are the Memoir cards but more explicit on what actually went on, like a history book, still the flavour of the game.
    Hollow: These cards surrounds the game board with ongoing effects.
    Environment cards are the natural environments of the stories, a Grove of trees, a lush field, the backdrop and landscape, if Yugioh kept the environment rule from Season 1.
    Domain cards are more on the lines of territories, like faction owned land, or other worlds opened with a rift or whatever your imagination comes up with or whatever I come up with for these cards, digital world, perhaps a comic world has entered the world.
    Element cards are basically bylaws, like gravity and electromagneticism, or other rules that may govern gameplay like cartoon physics or what not, basically a theme of a story now incorporated into gameplay.
    Token cards need no explanation, they are tokens.
    These 3 types of cards all have 4 sub types each. With sub sub types affecting more of the rules, like cards you can't play till you have all the pieces, exodia but you actually summon him and battle with him. Or operational cards like vehicles, horses, Chariots, Humvees, tanks. AAA Guns...
    So you may be asking what is the theme of the game? The Art Of Story Telling! Genres and world's mash together to compete in simulated games, Combat! Sports! The whole 12 Yards of Creativity!
    Whatever format you choose is the theme of the game and the cards you choose represents your playstyle, or your favorite characters and stories from my arsenal of stories that will be published through all the mediums you can think of! Books, Games, Shows, all connected canonically despite genre and differences in tone and taste, you got kid cartoons to, popular Anime of your choosing (lewd tropes and swearing not included, however, the amount of heavy stuff like death may vary depending on the audience), fun for the whole family! You got stories from a dimensional noir detective to a regular detective, imagination could be the limit of what stories I have in store.
    And the best thing of all, they are all connected and cannon, have fun with the ARG on this one.
    Now you know the theme, and all the Card types, could you see or guess the full scope? It's a bit like Marvels but not limited to superheros, not much limits are in place, there's a story for everyone.
    Oh and the first letter in all the Card types spell something, I went out of my way to make it personal...
    Although the language, anagrams, and the puzzle within may not be suited for the ones who don't have time, I mean it's all there, you just got to know what language it is and what message it holds.
    Aka you got to be MatPat, but I could just tell you if you wish, Yugioh has Egypt as its theme, I also chose a nearby place in that area to be the overarching theme.
    And sorry for this long Epoch, I wish to share you the Almanac of my game but it's not complete.

      You've put a lot of thought into this.
      It reminds me a bit of League of Legends where many worlds collide in one arena.
      If you have any card designs, you can send them my way for an upcoming video where I will be analysing homemade TCG cards. But that really focuses on the design and layout of cards, i.e. art to text ratio, colour scheme, theme, font types, readability, things like that.

    notes:
    1:technilcy changeling is an ability not a keyword but its close enough because its basicly a creature type keyword at this point
    2: battle cry is basicly just etb from magic its close enough to a keyword
    3: tribute summon is a summon a kind of summon not a abilty or keyword in fact yugoh basicly has peaircing as its keyword and thats it

      I don't know what your definition of keywords is, but these are all keywords. It's a word or phrase used as short hand that describes a mechanic.
      Try not to nit pick at someone's hard work. The world doesn't need that kind of righteous negativity.
