Honda CB500F: Handling Without The Sport Styling. Worth A Look!

- In Honda's crowded small displacement motorcycle lineup, I feel like the CB300F get's overlooked. While I personally prefer the styling of the CBR500R, I think this CB300 may be the more versatile, and just as sporty option. Is it right for you? It’s a little confusing since the title says CB300F but you’re talking the CB500F!
AH! I just realized that I had a typo in the title. Sorry about that!
@@PeterLoweOne No Worries!!! I figured as much and wanted to give you a heads up! Love your content!
Putting a 17ltr tank on this slick looking Bike is a great work of Honda engineering. ❤
It's a proper bike. Essential no nonsense.
It will sell more if the styling is like the GB350.
Besides 500cc engine is kind of awkward on a hypernaked bike, people will just go for mt07,sv650 or kawasaki z650 with not much price hike.
Seriously, I've been on mine for 6 years.
If it sounded better I'd swap my 2018 for a new cbr500r
@@gdvadventours5512 Hypernaked? That term is reserved for bikes >150hp my dude, we are so far away from this here.
The other bikes listen generally go for bout 2k more than the cb500f, but they are also different bikes. You compare the SV650, Mt07, Z650, Tuono660, etc with the CB750f (Hornet), not the 500. The 500 is just a better 300cc and realistically is now comparable with the Kawasaki Z500, Mt03 (Yamah is slacking)
This is one of the best bikes for the developing world. Safety tech. Good torque and good fuel economy.
Hi Peter - good review again; thank you.
Nice review! 17 liters is about 4.5 gallons, which is great for a smaller engine. I bet this bike could go for 250 miles if riding conservatively. On the '21 Ninja 650, I can take 4.0 gallons to 225 miles range (about 60 mpg) comfortably when riding conservatively (not rushing, and doing the speed limit).
I believe the nx500 would be my pick..thanks for the review!
which iphone modelare you using for the videos mate? by the way top notch videos and top bike
I'm currently using the iPhone 15 Pro
Peter can you do the new Z900 and Hornet CB 1000 ?
First! Love your content!
Thanks so much for your support!
Sorry if you already mentioned it in the video and i missed it, but with the rebranded 2024 line (cb500 hornet, nx500) they actually got rid of the old dash for a new tft! the same with Hondas bigger bikes like the cb650r.
Albeit the tft does look pretty ugly in my opinion, but it should be a lot more visible in daylight!
Yeah, I left room to review the 2025's as they arrive. I'm not exactly sure when they're arriving, but it could be anytime, so I wanted to be fair to what was in front of me, and then talk about the NEW stuff as it arrives. Thanks for watching!
Peter please 🥺 Review the GB350S .Thanks
Nice looking bike. Did you say this is a 2023 model? What about 2025 model then? Any upgrades? Better dash? Etc
The 25 Modle gets the same dash and schazz like on the Hornet, meaning phone connectivity (I've also heard it can show you where to turn, but I'm not 100% sure). And some slight design changes (I don't like it more than the 23 Model), but you might.
Other than that the bike is fairly similar. My 2018 is also almost the same without the dash, the fat forks and radial front brakes.
So is this the 500F? I thought the 300F was discontinued a few years ago?
The 300R still exists, which is the smaller version of this bike. I film in Canada.
I believe the current 500 Honda segment now has a TFT display as of 2025 model year. Though I may be mistaken.
I know that the NX500 does, I haven't checked each of the others yet.
I would have coat Honda nothing to put a shared cb300r headlight on this and call it the CB500r...
It would maybe cost a very small sum to change the production to make this happen.
But the bigger issue imo is that the rest of the bike wouldn't fit to the other headlight.
But I also think that the cb500f has a really nice headlight shape. My bike is 6 years old (with the slightly older headlight) and someone who has no idea couldn't tell you if it's a new or older bike.
Honda doesn't sell a CB300F anymore. That is the CB500F
I recently reviewed the 2024 CB300R which is the smaller version of this bike.
@@PeterLoweOne Hey Peter, I'm a big fan of your channel and your motorcycling expertise. I was just pointing out the typo in the video title
I loved my 300r, but wished it had more HP or better more torque. Next time I met my mechanic, I ask him how much it costs to swap a Duke 390 engine into it.
I don't think that's the play.
Why don't you find a tune you could put on the bike, should be a lot cheaper.
@@Daniel-dj7fh I asked my mechanic, but he didn't saw a way to get much out of that tiny engine.
Why do you call this a 300F in the first few seconds of the vlog? It's a 500f. There used to be a cb300f which looked very similar until honda replaced it with the lighter cb300(cafe)R(acer). They did the same when the CB65OF became the CB650R.
Had the 500x and got bored of it in about 2 weeks, too slow 😆
What do you ride now?
@Daniel-dj7fh I went to a VFR800 2010 which was more my style. Now a Zx12r
Honest to god the only thing which is missing from Honda's 500cc bikes is a rear tire hugger.
And a 270° crank
Based on my understanding F = Fighter, naked bike. R = Racing, sport fairing bike. I rode a red 2015 CB300F.
I don't know about f=fighter. But cbr is the sports, cb-f is the naked and cb-x is their adventure line.
I think I've even heard the f standing for faired (fairing), but naked bikes don't really have fairings other than the ones next to the cooler and tank.
Reviewing a Triumph bonneville t120 anytime soon? Salute 🫡
I think I remember you from Brantford Kia?
Yes, he was good then and I continued to follow him. It was much to do with his reviews and advice that led me to my Hyundai SantaFe PHEV.
Yup! That's me! I left there a few years ago to pursue a variety of other options on and off camera. This is how I get my TH-cam creator fix now. Thanks for watching!
