Having a character effortlessly merc the last arcs villain is a quick way to establish them as a badass.
As well as perfectly demonstrating Power Creep.
There’s also the fact this plays into the Next several Arcs consider Toriyama had to design and make Several Characters that His Editors weren’t sure of. Thankfully the Man knew how to use his resources well. It’s just annoying that most of these ideas a

Another fun fact is that Akira Toriyama specifically designed Trunks to pander to female viewers.
Trunks was designed from the ground up with the current fashion trend of Japan during that time that Girls loved.
Trunks follows the rule of cool.
And BOY did it work. A lot of the female fanbase got into the series because of him from what I understand
Personally, I think it still holds up. Especially since the baggy style has become popular again among the Asian demographic.

Here is the thing about Trunks, he dosent play around, he usually goes straight for the kill. Him giving King Cold his sword is rather unusual, and he only did so because he had supreme confidence in winning.
Unlike Goku who is a battle maniac and tries his best to stretch out a fight as long as possible, and Vegeta who has an inferiority complex so he tries to crush his enemies as thoroughly as possible, Trunks just wants his fights to be over, all Trunks wants is the Kill.
I mean… yeah if you’ve been through what he’s been through

In the original King Cold thought the unspecified super saiyans' power came from his sword.
So just to flex, the Saiyan literally GIVES IT to him just to kill him without it. The sword is magic, though, as the wielder can focus their ki through it and it automatically adjusts its own size so the wielder can comfortably use it.

@@danielramsey6141 i mean, he clearly is using his ki through it though. The sword would break on Frieza if he didn't. But I always just assumed they could do that with pretty much anything, that it didn't have to be a magical sword for that.
Lightning Lance Yeah. It doesn't _have_ to be a magical weapon. They use Ki to protect their clothing, for example.
But some items do enhance Ki usage. Like Frieza Force guns, for example.

Vegeta's pink shirt originally just said BADMAN on the back of it, and was a fun throwback to Bulmas original outfit at the start of the classic Dragon Ball. She wore a long T-shirt/dress, same color, but with BULMA on the back of it. Then TFS just had fun changing the text almost every scene as everyone ridiculed Vegeta for the pink shirt. Priceless.

Just to give some context about Trunks giving his sword to King Cold: in the original anime, King Cold thought the sword was where Trunks got all his power from. So just to show off, Trunks gave him the sword and then demolished him without it

Little fun fact, I guess, Frieza is extremely durable. He can survive being cut into pieces. In fact, in the manga, it was very clear that even after being cut into a bunch of pieces by our mystery boy that he was still alive until said mystery boy blew those pieces to smithereens

15:50 For a little bit of insight, in the original version, Freezer's dad had the stupid idea the power came from the sword, so that's why he asked for it. Of course our new guy handed it to him like "sure, dude, try me with the sword".
For a bit of context on King Cold wanting Trunk's sword so badly, in the anime he believes it to be the source of Trunk's power so coerces him into letting him just 'examine' it. Naturally, he was mistaken.

It's honestly a joy to watch you 2 because of how you know nothing of the original series.
When the "mystery super sayian" guy shows up, it's usually "Finally, TeamFourStar introduced ____"
But you get to live the mystery.
The most entertaining reactions are those that know nothing about dbz and those that know everything about dbz.
Until the comments show up and people just spoil everything anyway.

But you have met that guy before remember when Vegeta snapped when Gohan stole the dragon ball on Namek.
don't worry next episode you'll understand who this mysterious Saiyan Swordsman is and why he was internally screaming at Bulma's comments.
Also I don't know your knowledge of Doctor Who but when Freeza was shocked at this new commer being a Super Saiyan and started screaming "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE" that's a Dalek reference, in Doctor Who it's their key phrase, and they even played the Dalek theme in the background of that scene

To make it clear: The reason King Cold wanted to see Trunks's sword in the original is because he thought the sword was the only reason he could kill Frieza. Obviously, his hypothesis was proven completely incorrect, and he paid for it.

Goku: "Hey..."

A lot of this episode will make a lot more sense on the next episode I believe. It will also make this episode veeeery awkward on hindsight.
At the same time, going forward it is a good point to keep in mind just how easily this stranger was able to cut and dispatch Freeza and his daddy.
It’s a clever way to show how strong Trunks is (we’ve already seen ahead) and yes, indeed very awkward. 😳

So I assuming you guys haven't already watched the next episode via patreon, I'd highly recommend regardless that after you do watch episode 34, to check out the movie relating to the mysterious Saiyan.
It'll tell you why he's here, who he fully is, and give you a bit of a backstory about where he comes from in general.
What I think a lot of people love about Trunks is how *0 bullsh!t* he is.
Unlike Goku he doesn't allow his opponents to get away so they can be a better fight later , nor is he like Vegeta who lets his overconfidence get the better of him
The moment he gets the chance , he goes straight for the kill. Only indulging in messing with his opponent a bit if he is 100% certain he can win.
Like how he indulges King Cold, knowing he's not really a threat now that Frieza is gone

There were some really big hints about the mysterious saiyan's identity. If you listen to how he talks about things it gives it away.
In retrospect it’s very obvious but we were completely oblivious 😂 next episode coming tomorrow 😁
Yeeeah remember that the new character was screaming internally when Bulma was hitting on him. Makes the reveal funnier.
The funny part with goku showing up is from goku’s perspective, frieza is coming to kill them and they don’t have the power to stop him.
There are two things that always stand out to me in this episode. First is King Cold. Sure, Trunks wrecks him with no effort, but there’s a serious bit of Fridge Horror to be considered. He was as strong as his son, who was in his final form. And yet, Cold was only in his SECOND form (I’m assuming he follows the same pattern in transformations). Just imagine how powerful he would have been if he’d actually gotten serious.
The second is, of course, the gloriously awkward encounter between Bulma and Trunks. I’m sure you’ve guessed why it played out this way. I’m also sure it won’t surprise you to know that this scene spawned PLENTY of memes. Also, credit to KaiserNeko for being willing to destroy his vocal cords for the perfect scream.
The truth is we really didn’t get the actual joke at time watching this. We just thought it was Trunks being awkward around girls 😂

3:04 Freeza had legit PTSD from his fight with Goku. In the anime OG, he was legit TERRIFIED of Trunks at first and his father was all "Wtf is your deal, just kill him."

When I first saw this episode, it was at a friend's house and we were both enamoured with Mr. Cant-Say. I think I said something along the lines of "Idk who this guy is, but he's my new favorite character." However, Piccolo and Vegeta remain comfortably at the top of the list for me.
He certainly makes an impression right away. They absolutely nailed his character 🤩
There are plenty of fundubs, fan mangas and stuff about Freeza's Mom.. pretty dark and touching actually, it makes it more understandable way he became Tyrant.. also actually to protect the Galaxy from the wild Saiyans who were barbarians in the first place actually, which also means Freeza (and his race/family) is pretty old (long time living) like some species in Star Wars.
It's refreshing seeing people who don't know who "the Mysterious Stranger" is react to this.

Trunk is very interesting since he is not like goku and vegeta who let their enemies get stronger. Trunk finishes them immediately when he sees an opportunity. He’s not as flexible as most of the others.

I've been binging the last 30 episodes with you people. I was gonna rewatch the whole thing again and i got recommended this and now i get to watch yhe show again and watch your reactions. Crazy how this is your first time watching dbz. But even though I grew up with the original when i go back and try to watch dbz team4stars voice feel more normal to me

Fun fact: You actually have seen the new character prior in the series. He was in a very brief scene on Namek before the Ginyu Force showed up and he actually spoils who he is in that quick throwaway gag. Won't say much more than that because spoilers, obviously, but he plays off the other characters so well moving forward.

Facts: Freeza get even stronger with his new "Mecha-Form" (don't know how but he is).
And if we assume that King Cold also has 3x if not more transformations and his power always doubles like Freeza's did back on Namek... without the "Purple Hair Dude" our friends would be screwed.
This was one of the episodes where I couldn't stop laughing even though I knew who the new guy was. I won't spoil anything, but I will say that you get to find out who he is and why he's there in the next episode. I am so looking forward to your reactions, and love that Bethany made that "Krillin" joke. OMG! That had me laughing so hard!

In real DBZ fights can last for several episodes, and it's mostly just screaming. In this they played to that with the fight between the new guy and Frieza. The fight between those two is one of the fastest and shortest fights in all of DBZ. Here in DBZA they added extra screaming just as a joke about the original series.

King Cold getting the sword, in the original King Cold was convinced the sword was the source of Trunks' power, like a Power Ranger or He-Man type of hero and thought he had tricked him into giving up his power...nope, Trunks just likes swords. *edit: typed this before finishing this reaction, didn't realize he doesn't say his name yet, the Abridged broke up the episode.
