I agree, but what you need to remember is, this negative portrayal of Indra as a villain type- sneaky, cunning, deceptive - is a Puranic concept. In the Vedas, Indra is benevolent, caring and fights for humanity. With the transition from Vedic to Puranic Hinduism, God's like Vishnu and Shiva became more important and such mythology was created to make Indra and other Vedic deities look selfish, ignorant and cowardly.
