Most of us long for a deep connection. From a young age, we’re taught to believe in a romantic love that will be all encompassing. But the reality is that it’s so hard to find. And even when we do, most relationships end and ultimately leave us feeling broken. I love how this song captures that desire for that love, that idea of finding someone “to die for,” and the loneliness one feels during the search. I wish our society taught us that not having that love is perfectly ok, that we can be fulfilled with ourselves, and that obtaining that feeling of love from a deep friendship is just as valid.

It's been a while since I last listened to this song. This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and Zhang Hao covered it beautifully. So, here I am again.
It's even harder when you are in your 20's 30's and everyone is starting their life with their partners buying a house, having kids and you're just like..alone.
Life is much more than that. U don't have to be alone, there's billions of people around the world to meet and places to go. It's nice to have someone but don't get into a relationship because ur lonely, as that relationship will be a headache and heartache. Fate will find its way to u. Sometimes its not intentionally ,but it hurts a lot .Time sometimes heals but you'll be stuck with the memories that person gave you and it hurts when your thinking of that person and your not sure that person still remembers you 😭.I speak from experience .I still feel a little twitch when I see others laughing and being cute chaotic siblings .I have 10 siblings ,I have never met 4 and the ones that were close to me were having bad blood against my family since some of us had different mom /dad's .I didn't know my dad until I was 8 and he left a short while after my 10th bday . Well I now know not to keep toxic people in my heart .It was hard when I was 10,11,12,13 and now 14 I still don't want my heart open .I only want to find my lil brother and be close to him .I only have 2 siblings I trust .Maybe it will be 3 .

The lyrics, the music, Sam’s voice, the music video-everything-is simply so captivating and beautiful. I think everyone resonates with some part of this song some way or another. Here’s how I interpreted the video if any of you guys are interested! In the video, Sam’s mannequin head is on display, which can be symbolic to how he’s on the market/ready to date. Everyday, he suffers by seeing couples happily together because they are sharing an experience that he longs for (i.e. pure love) but fails to attain. At one point, we see Sam’s mannequin head crowned, perhaps showing us how he’s tried “fixing” & “adorning” himself to make himself more attractive/ desirable to others, but these attempts fail since no one bothers in taking him. We also see a child drawn to Sam’s mannequin head to maybe show that a child is something that Sam desires & considers worth dying for. At the end of the video, all the mannequin heads have been taken & Sam’s mannequin head is the only one on display. He’s the only one still single/lonely, but had to watch everyone around him get bought/ get into relationships. Finally, we see someone shatter the display glass & take Sam’s mannequin head, but the fact that the dude broke the glass to attain Sam’s mannequin head shows his character/ personality; the thief is clearly not a good guy & will only hurt Sam. Sam was lonely on the display, but when he is finally taken, he’s taken by a guy that might be abusive or toxic. The shattered glass can also be telling of how the thief will only shatter Sam’s heart in the end! Thank you for reading (if you got this far!)
There's something I have learnt about life, and is the fact that for all people there's a moment in which we totally feel alone. And the way the video portrays it by just being a manikin face watching everything happening in front of you... is pretty much how it feels. That search and that feeling just sometimes eats you, somebody "to die for" is the hardest thing to find. It takes time, but someday we will end that search. Nothing is more powerful than true love. For the last year, I've been cut off from everyone in my life. Ever since my girlfriend of 2 years passed away, I haven't been able to snap out of it. I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can't stop thinking. She was so good to me. Never cheated, never lied, never talked to me without saying I love you. Sometimes she would sit there and say it a thousand times. Every time we had an argument, she would say it until I calmed down. Hugged me when she knew something was wrong. Didn't speak when she knew I was tired of hearing what others had to say. Truly a humble human being. She always cried when she saw me. Now that those days are gone, all I can do is live how she wanted me to. I know it is going to be hard, but I'm grateful she gave me the opportunity to feel like someone understood. It's like the world is turning and everyone's happy and living their best lives while I'm in a standstill, watching them from a distance and falling apart slowly. I know that everyone has struggles and we're all trying our best to keep living, so I try to be more patient with myself these days.

The choice of using mannequins in this video was perfect. They represent all of us as a shell, a facade, and how one cannot be truly happy until they are known, understood, and loved. The changing of the seasons signify time moving on. The little girl represents innocence and youth being lost as we get older. The thief stealing the mannequin head at the end seems to indicate that we don't always know who we will end up with, and that it is not always someone that we would expect...
also his being the only mannequin without a wig on represents his difference and not fitting into his own world.. being the few of the last being not picked up as well

"If its meant to be it'll be" That's the biggest misconception ever. Look at all of the choices we're faced with, you think we have all of these opportunites and just one destiny? What most people don't understand is that it's a balance, the universe does its part aligning us(like meeting someone etc). We decide with every choice we make when given a chance the course of our destiny. Just because something is meant to be doesn't mean we can't screw it all up.

I am so happy he chose Valentine's Day to release this masterpiece of a song, because he literally just spoke the minds of so many ppl that get reminded on this day they need somebody "to die for". And some of us really suffer from that, not everyone deals with loneliness in the same way...and this song definitely feels personal to him. It really seems he sang out loud his thoughts and, on a side note, how he kinda hates this day (said on a recent interview he did for Graham Norton Show), because of the grim reminder it is for him. Edit: "They're all posing in a picture frame whilst my world's crashing down" is probably one of the most impactful lines ever, cuz it really highlights the reality of the bigger picture, what someone else might be going through while others are as happy as ever (as usually portrayed on this day).
Bruno Silva so well said. This is such a harsh day for me. I lost my hair do to illness and I am constantly reminded most people only see the outside. And here I am at 47 alone because of it. I could wear a wig but I’m hiding the real me & I’d eventually have to tell the person anyway so what’s the point. I remember singing this song a couple of years ago when I was feeling hopeless, I didn’t realize who I was singing my heart out to until now. I’ve finally found someone to die for 🥺❤️
This song was always on repeat eve a year until it was released because it depicted my loneliness perfectly. Maybe it somehow manifested my future, because just a few months back, I finally found someone. Maybe not yet the one to die for, but it's going there. I'm not alone anymore.

I just remembered myself going to my university feeling alone,lonely, empty and sad and then this song waa dropped i immediately feel connected to it, there is one person i used to talk at that time to not feel lonely and we fell in love and it was a disaster some years later, it seems i was trying to cover up the hole inside of me and here I am again lonely and trying to reconnect to myself again

It’s so weird to think we r taught from a young age that we need to find someone and fall head over heels in love with someone to be happy. It’s so hard to find and many people spend their whole lives searching for this and they become so hurt and damaged in the process - it literally breaks their heart over and over again searching for it. For the longest time i felt like i was missing something in my life and i had no idea if it was a person:friend or partner or maybe a item, place, food? i had no idea but i felt like i was missing something and i was always waiting for it. I still feel that way but it doens't bother me as much anymore and it hasn't for a while. i like being alone after all but i have also had friendships and some sort of relationship where i felt needed, wanted, listened to and like i was a plant they wanted, needed to water because they wanted to keep me alive you know? I felt important to someone and it is a nice feeling. Like i said, i like being alone but i also like good company. i have had amazing company and they always leave so im used to it now but it still sucks sometimes. Most of us long for a deep connection. From a young age, we’re taught to believe in a romantic love that will be all encompassing. But the reality is that it’s so hard to find. Well I now know not to keep toxic people in my heart .It was hard when I was 10,11,12,13 and now 14 I still don't want my heart open .I only want to find my lil brother and be close to him .I only have 2 siblings I trust .Maybe it will be 3 .

The lyrics, the music, Sam’s voice, the music video-everything-is simply so captivating and beautiful. I think everyone resonates with some part of this song some way or another.
Here’s how I interpreted the video if any of you guys are interested!
In the video, Sam’s mannequin head is on display, which can be symbolic to how he’s on the market/ready to date. Everyday, he suffers by seeing couples happily together because they are sharing an experience that he longs for (i.e. pure love) but fails to attain. At one point, we see Sam’s mannequin head crowned, perhaps showing us how he’s tried “fixing” & “adorning” himself to make himself more attractive/ desirable to others, but these attempts fail since no one bothers in taking him. We also see a child drawn to Sam’s mannequin head to maybe show that a child is something that Sam desires & considers worth dying for. At the end of the video, all the mannequin heads have been taken & Sam’s mannequin head is the only one on display. He’s the only one still single/lonely, but had to watch everyone around him get bought/ get into relationships. Finally, we see someone shatter the display glass & take Sam’s mannequin head, but the fact that the dude broke the glass to attain Sam’s mannequin head shows his character/ personality; the thief is clearly not a good guy & will only hurt Sam. Sam was lonely on the display, but when he is finally taken, he’s taken by a guy that might be abusive or toxic. The shattered glass can also be telling of how the thief will only shatter Sam’s heart in the end!

There's something I have learnt about life, and is the fact that for all people there's a moment in which we totally feel alone. And the way the video portrays it by just being a manikin face watching everything happening in front of you... is pretty much how it feels. I think I heard this song before but it was a long time ago. I came here today because Zhan Hao did a cover of this song and for the first time I paid attention to the lyrics. It's a really beautiful song.
The choice of using mannequins in this video was perfect. They represent all of us as a shell, a facade, and how one cannot be truly happy until they are known, understood, and loved. The changing of the seasons signify time moving on. The little girl represents innocence and youth being lost as we get older. That's the biggest misconception ever. Look at all of the choices we're faced with, you think we have all of these opportunites and just one destiny? What most people don't understand is that it's a balance, the universe does its part aligning us(like meeting someone etc). We decide with every choice we make when given a chance the course of our destiny. Just because something is meant to be doesn't mean we can't screw it all up.

I am so happy he chose Valentine's Day to release this masterpiece of a song, because he literally just spoke the minds of so many ppl that get reminded on this day they need somebody "to die for". And some of us really suffer from that, not everyone deals with loneliness in the same way...and this song definitely feels personal to him. It really seems he sang out loud his thoughts and, on a side note, how he kinda hates this day (said on a recent interview he did for Graham Norton Show), because of the grim reminder it is for him.
Edit: "They're all posing in a picture frame whilst my world's crashing down" is probably one of the most impactful lines ever, cuz it really highlights the reality of the bigger picture, what someone else might be going through while others are as happy as ever (as usually portrayed on this day).

Bruno Silva so well said. This is such a harsh day for me. I lost my hair do to illness and I am constantly reminded most people only see the outside. And here I am at 47 alone because of it. I could wear a wig but I’m hiding the real me & I’d eventually have to tell the person anyway so what’s the point. For the longest time i felt like i was missing something in my life and i had no idea if it was a person:friend or partner or maybe a item, place, food? i had no idea but i felt like i was missing something and i was always waiting for it. I still feel that way but it doens't bother me as much anymore and it hasn't for a while. i like being alone after all but i have also had friendships and some sort of relationship where i felt needed, wanted, listened to and like i was a plant they wanted, needed to water because they wanted to keep me alive you know? I felt important to someone and it is a nice feeling. Like i said, i like being alone but i also like good company. i have had amazing company and they always leave so im used to it now but it still sucks sometimes. Especially when something bad happens or something good (rarely) but i get the urge to tell someone about it and i realize i have no one who would be genuinely interested to listen. That sucks. Alot in the moment. But im okay with the thought of that missing piece never coming to my life. Im okay with that.
