First :) Just want to say thank you to Pharrell, Rae and the whole i am OTHER crew for an amazing network and show. Their work inspires me. THIS IS ART! THIS IS OUR WORLD AND IT'S BEAUTIFULLY DEPICTED .
I looooove my extensions LOL All I had to do is wake up, brush my hair and go. Especially since I spend all night at work and doing homework! If I had to wake up and do something to my head, I'd be in trouble
So true. I know numerous people that are going to community college because of money and then transferring. There is nothing wrong with that. The people I have an issue with are those that just stop even putting effort in, especially in high school. High school is not the biggest challenge in life.
I agree totally. the problem with stereotypes isn't what the stereotype is. The problem is the fact that it is casting an entire people as having a characteristic based on their genealogical/phenotypic race.
Love these kind of videos i just wish i had someone that would walk around with me when i make some of my video's because im not afraid to ask people stuff, just the people i know are too scary and afraid.
"they must first help themselves." Speaking from experience, this only goes as far as is allowed by whatever external governing factors you happen to be around. On the whole though, I agree with what you said. I'm just saying that sometimes, many times, success by African Americans isn't such a black & white issue (no pun intended). It shouldnt be used as an excuse, but it also does still exist. Those are just my supplemental offerings for those who might adopt the ideas I mentioned earlier.
I like how you put that! I have also noticed though that a lot of black people who make it into positions power have that "I got mine by myself, you have to get yours by yourself" type of mind set in stead of the mentoring mind set that many would hope for. I think that this also helps to create that climate of distrust and a place to start calling people uppity, sell outs and acting/talking white.
SHE'S RIGHT!!! A store owner in NY talked to a family member of mine literally in a slow voice and tried to overcharge her on an item. He didn't do it at first but when he found out they were from Arizona, he immediately changed. I also overheard a loud young man on the bus quizzing a woman on history/geopgraphy. He said, "An Arizonaan who know HISTORY?! I don't believe it. What is up with that? It's not just AZ and TX its the whole southwest stereotype.
As a black person who was born in the eighties the last gentleman is stuck in the 60s, it's depressing to here. I love this show though, it proves us as Americans can break the mold that hast been cast upon us.
That ''Black Power'' dude is one of that people, who makes stereotypes about different colour as him and makes stereotypes about him, and the he is bittchin about stereotypes and he is one of that people who keeps racism alive
Once again you're right, we as people do judge each other a lot. based on many things of coarse but in this case race. You're argument is that she wants to be understood and not stereotyped which is understandably. But i'm thinking of it this way. For instance, when I go to school i hope to gain friends and once i gain friends they'll be able to understand who i am no matter what race i or she/he maybe.
This is a cool series. Very interesting. I think there is some truth to the majority of stereotypes, due to the way people were raised, culture, anatomy, etc. I think stereotypes can help in some areas, like marketing, but you should never think that someone must be a certain way/must like certain stuff/must look a certain way based on stereotypes. -A sistah that's never had a weave
This video was shown in my ESL class. I am a teacher and choice "Stereotypes" as a topic of discussion. Interestingly enough my students from Spain and Italy were more open minded. They did not associate racism as a major issue. Is it more so of an issue in the US or did I just get a eclectic group of students?
I second this comment. Been a soccer fan my whole life and racism plagues their stadiums. Quite sad really for what is considered the best sport in the world.
4:45 "Hip hop, you know, done nicely, respectfully ...Amen." Lol. Favorite part. Can't believe she threw a little Amen in there at the end.

stereotype is a word which breaks up and divides but in another way shows culture...Wise as shit!

As far as my concern if you want someone to understand you, you have to be who you are not matter who or what's surrounding you.

This is a cool series. Very interesting.
