the caption on the photo saying "this was the most spiritual place i ever worked" kills me every time
They really reached enlightenment, it is evident from the music
beach boys lore is incredible
A few weeks ago I stayed up way too late because I kept digging deeper and deeper into the lore and it just kept going. Even now I just found out about this iteration of Shortenin’ Bread.
I can't believe they left this off of 15 big ones
Would've been weird to feature this song in an album about 15 sizeable penises
Brian's true pocket symphony to god
🤣
Pocket pool symphony
I love this song so much. It's truly Brian's magnum opus.
Would love to have been a fly on the wall when the record company listened to this.
this is genuinely a banger wtf
the genius just hits you out of the blue, this is absolutely insane but also insanely good lmao
Record label: "Brian, you gotta write another hit, something good for the radio"
Brian:
If this song doesn't play when I roll up to Heavens gates, I'm gonna be sorely disappointed.
this is what he tried to achieve on smile
Most likely one of my favourite versions of Shortenin' Bread
My Obsession (stones), Gettin Hungry, Do It Again, Ding Dang, Shortenin, Bread, Bells of Madness and on and on. They are all intertwined in that obsessive groove
Just a gorgeous evocative song.
This song is constantly playing in my head
Literally me
Same, and its so contagious that I want to sing it out loud, you know, but singing ALLEY OOP-WHOO in class is very bad
It's always playing in Brian's head too.
@@damienf.7543I scream out alley oop in the most awkward moments.
this should have been on Love You
If you only could see how many times I come down here to listen to this MASTERPIECE
I wish this was included on a studio album
It is kinda revisited on Brian's 2008 solo album "that lucky old sun"
@@antebellumstage - It's a shame he didn't include some of the lyrics from this original though 😆
“Big tit ‘o Daddy!”
Even after SMiLE BW and the BBs made music that makes you do a double take and wonder: what was that and how did they do that? So weird. So genius.
What a beautiful song about going to heaven! 😇God Bless the Beach Boys! ✝🙏
I'm so obsessed with this tune
Absolute masterpiece
This is like a prototype of the song “Ding Dang”
Except Ding Dang was recorded a year earlier.
@@Blend42 vice versa then
@@Blend42 The describtion says this was recorded in 1974 and Love You was released in 1977?
@@twistslime Ding Dang versions were recorded in the fall of 73 and in June 74 , with the dirty version aka Brian's tune apparently recorded in November 74 according to bellagio. Love You used one of the older versions as well as Good Time which was recording in January 1970 as well as new tracks recorded at the end of 76 and start of 77.
@@Blend42 The Beach Boys actually did no recording at all in 1973, aside from three Brian demos cut in November. Brother Studios didn't exist until very early 1974, it was still a porn theater in 1973 lol. The version of Ding Dang heard on Love You was recorded in June 1974, with Rollin' Up to Heaven recorded five months later.
This takes me to when I was a teenager working in a sweaty ass cabin at a welcome center in the mid 80’s 😂
Brian’s gun in his pocket symphony to god.
1:35 love that moment
Same here
I wish I could get the individual tracks and increase the background vocals, the rubbin and screamin parts
Shorting bread for God ding dang WOOOOO!
Like so many comments say, BW still sounded great, but Dennis is already leaning toward that damaged, raspy sound he had at the end of his life.
Apparently Dennis got punched in the throat at a bar in 1973, and that’s when the decline began
Legendary tune.
ALLEY OOP
Alleyoop!
Woo
‘Ding Dang’ vibes
Woo!
1974? didn't know brian still had his voice by then
Something terrible happened between 74 and 76 to his voice- probably coke, boos and cigarettes in enormous quantities.
@Milo Converso This is '74, as is a version of California Feelin' where his voice is still there. Even on the 1975 Johnny Rivers cover of Help Me Rhonda that he does back-ups on the falsetto is still recognizable if thinner and buried in the mix.
In Rolling up to Heaven cut at Caribou in 74 you can still hear Brian talking and singing in his normal voice and falsetto- so sometime after the 74 Caribou sessions but before the 15 Big Ones sessions of 76 his voice (both speaking and singing) radically changed. The weird thing is that Brian didn't seem to notice and/or care. However Brother Studios engineer Earl Mankey thought that Brian was singing in a lower voice after 75 because he wanted to sound more masculine. Dennis said that when Brian sang falsetto- when he was a teenager, he was made fun of for being sissy.
I thought this was 1971 version
Nope, recorded in November 1974 at Caribou Ranch.
the rollin sound
Famous picture. Does any one know if this taken was at Carl's house or the Caribou Ranch studio?
At Caribou
Nothing but “Ding Dang”………
shortening bread 🥖
listening to the beach boys until they say something about boobs
😭😭
This band released 29 albums without any profanity or vulgarity that I can recall and at some point in the middle of that recorded an unreleased 3 and a half minute track about fucking big boobs
Al isn’t on this one?
Nope, just Mike (“it was a hot time rubbin’ in the tub”), Brian (“hot time” in the left channel, “alley oop woo” in the right channel), Jim Guercio (“alley oop woo”), Dennis (“show those boobs, she’s a humpin’ and a pumpin’ and a”), and Carl (“moanin’ and a-groanin’” and other lyrics not exactly suitable for this comment section!)
Al stayed home keepin it clean
If anyone has the chords
I think it is just E...
Breakdown A and B.
That's it...
@@AnAllAroundPlayerMaker Sounds about right thank you!
All I hear is alley oops, good song but what are they singing😮😅
Whoo duck her, big fits (figure it out)
Wtf are these lyrics bro what
alley oop
Can someone please post the lyrics? I want to teach them to my grade school choir for their next performance...
@@metv2363 alley oop, fuck her, big tits
We had a hot time rubbin in the tub.
Alley oop woooh. Fuck her Big Tits!
I assume that's what's being said lmao. Brian really is a genius.
Alley oop (hard times) fuck her..big tits. (Rubbin in the tub)
Stinks…..
Tall Jardin in the back
They brought in several phone books for him to stand on!! Yikes!! LOL!! 😂
