Great coffee table and nice wardrobe! Six years is a long stretch to live in renovation chaos. It's going to be SOOOO beautiful when completed!

Happy New Year! Feeling overwhelmed by living in a construction zone is very understandable. Maybe you can retreat to the finished and tidy spaces when it all gets to be too much!

At the risk of sounding selfish, the longer the project takes, the more videos we get. 😁

Thanks! Hanging in there and keeping the focus on the vision 😁 We make sure we don’t burn ourselves out and to take breaks, go on holidays, spend time with our family, be here for our boys… it is so tempting to let the building works go first or to keep pushing to get things finished but it is not the lifestyle we want. But oh how I wish it was all finished!’

Marloes. Thank you for sharing about the history of the Hospice Beaune. How fascinating! I checked it out online and saw a few photos of the hall you mentioned with the beds down each side with the red blanket! What an incredible place not to mention the outside with the amazing architecture. Again Thank you and Happy New Year and since we are still in the Christmas season, Happy Christmas.

When you said you are less resilient that really rang true with me. I'm a bit older than you and have noticed over the years that my stamina and recovery times are much different than when I was younger. So far, I still recover and continue to do projects and garden, etc., but at a much different pace, with more breaks, and with lowered expectations! I have discovered I actually prefer a slower pace and it has made me more thoughtful about what I do. So, thank you for sharing your story. I really believe it helps us when we share ourselves with others.

I understand so much why you can be some time tired with the reno process and all the stuff you have to move from one space to another again and again.... It s the same for me with the constant reno. Of our house since 14 years. Anyway happy new year for you and your family. See you soon

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Marloes and Olav, the coffee table came out beautiful. The wardrobe is massive and really nice, I agree, it needs to be painted. I love the doors you found. I just want to tell you this, it's ok to feel overwhelmed, tired of changing and rearranging, and a little out of sorts after six years of renovations, it's hard to live in the same place as it's going on. Your house is coming along, the end result is so worth it but never apologize for how you feel. I am really looking forward to what you have in store for the new year. Thank you so very much for sharing your journey with us. Love from N.Y.

Your kitchen is so lovely and cozy especially on a rainy day! I love what you did with the coffee table- it is perfect for that spot between the sofas. Can’t wait to see what you do with the wardrobe and the living room renovation! I know it’s stressful when one’s “nest” is in a state of flux, but it won’t last forever. The spaces you have finished so far are incredible and I’m sure give you much comfort in the meantime. Happy New Year to you and yours! 😊🎉

It is going to be a wonderful home, it is already an inspiraation to many of us who love seeing you each week. Hope you have a happy and blessed New Year.

Lovely job on the coffee table 👏👏
Feeling overwhelmed, intermittently, I think is normal with renovations - and the never ending moving things around to accommodate the next focus. But your home is really looking gorgeous! Just don’t lose your vision (I know you won’t) and you’ll be fine. I’m on my tenth renovation, and I know the feeling well.
    Kudos to both of you!

If you like the look of natural wood, as I do, without any paint or stains, next time put a clear temepered glass top on it.
Use little shims under the glass so that it does not come in direct contact with the wood.
I know, it's not the same, but it does work, and gives you the natural look without the fear of staining or scratching the wood.
You guys have done an absolutely marvellous job renovating the place; it looks gorgeous!!!

Such great progress but it does get weary living in a construction site! The living room will be so great and will become a great gathering place for your family and friends! The old doors are quite the find and they will beautifully disguise the ugly but necessary electrical panel! Happy New Year to all of you and Cheers!

You mentioned privilege. I hate the overuse of the word. You are privileged because you have worked hard. You have earned your privilege through your tenacity, work ethic and your values of hard work and not relying on systems to take care of your needs. Yes there is poverty in the world. But please don’t put yourself and the accomplishments of your hands down.

I think it very mature of her to realize her privilege. Just because you work hard and have good values does not mean you have not experienced privilege in your life. Where you were born, your access to food, water, education, healthcare a stable society is all privilege. Even if we don’t choose it, it does exist. But by knowing this we can be humble and grateful. Appreciating and using privilege does not mean you are abusing it. In fact I am sure it creates empathy within us for those who are struggling or have struggled. Living in uncomfortable space and working and moving things constantly is good experience to relate to others and problems in the world around us.
