    Excellent video. I was also one of those who thought the MT-LB is the Soviet counterpart of the M113. I like your arguments. I now agree with you.

  • @castor3020
    @castor3020 2 ปีที่แล้ว +71

    I think its not entirely
    correct to say MTLB is not the Eastern M113, especially since you showed us that is pretty much has ended up being that.
    M113 also is very modifiable and has been used for a variety of roles, including artillery tractor.
    In their use there is little difference, only the original role differs.
    I served in the Finnish army mounting these everyday and its mobility and the amount of stuff/personnel you can stuff into one is unparalleled.
    Our CV90 units always wondered how we could just cross bogs like it was nothing and the profile of the MTLB made it so it was very hard to target in a hilly forested country.
    Oh and also being cheap is a bonus, and maintenance is a peace of cake. Yeah I would not want to take fire while being in one but its not really meant to be under fire.
    Its a super good battle taxi, use it in APC role (Drive infantry to the combat area and wait)

    • @habahan4257
      @habahan4257 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I think WD's arguments are valid. M113 was designed as apc, but MT-LB not. Its story is much similar to Bv-206. Also, MT-LB is very crampy, which indicates that it was not designed for the infantry. It has no ramp for infantry. A tank can tow artillery, which does not make the counterpart of the MT-LB. Yes, I also accept that many countries use it as apc. But, also they use the Bv-206s. MT-LB2s story much similar to Bv-206.

    The MT-LB, unlike the bmp-1,2 and 3, have excellent mobility in rough terrain. The engine is really, really powerful and it can negotiate very tricky terrain. Also unlike the bmps. It also due to the massve engine have a "sneak" feature. Large bore engines on low rpms are incredibly hard to pinpoint even when you hear them. Since its also low you can sneak it into places where other vehciles wont go and cover it up. We used this with RBS56 on it for several years here.
