Ben, can you explain why you wouldn't just cut the sorghum today before the frost? I realize you may suffer a loss of quality when it gets rained on, but you get it down without having to worry and have several days to let it dry out.

Timing just isn't on my side, to include rain forecasted.

U inspired me to plant sorgrum this year on some of my prevented plant acres. I have 150 + acres planted that's all headed out with seeds, seven foot tall. Been to wet to get in the field to get it off. Hopefully I can get it off before the snow comes lol. If not guess I'll just disc it in in the spring. ( lower Michigan). I Enjoy your videos.

Wait the 7 to 10 days after a killing frost, maybe it will dry down enough you can bale it for dry hay instead of wrapping it? Thats my plan with grass hay

Wish it was possible brad. No chance for it to dry.

I’m going to probably let the frost kill mine too. It took me almost a week to get my first cutting to dry down to get it into the silo. I’m No expert either but I’m thinking after 7 to 10 days after the frost it would be so dry that you could have the chopper or baler follow right behind the mower

Ben , could you put a hot wire up and let the cow's graze it ,7 to 10 days after the frost? From the comments baling not a option in your area because of drying conditions nowadays... just a thought? Idk I'm here watching and learning about this animal (sorghum) 👍

Ben I would cut that sorghum Sunday and roll it up before rain or frost, it's not going to grow that much more, not worth the wait

Did you cut any more dry hay?

Awhile ago you told us you had plenty of feed to get by. Now you’re saying you don’t! Which is it? I’m all for you expanding your herd, but if you were cutting it close, why buy more cows?

My dearest apologies Mark? An unexpected 4 week drought changed that.....to include 3-4 weeks of non stop rain. I do not hold a crystal ball you know?

If you let it dry down after the frost and bale as dry feed your chance of nitrate poisoning is pretty much gone.

Agree. Where I am at....there is no chance of it being baled dry.
