      It's only a temporary plug if he takes it to get it fixed. If I plug a tire and it isn't flat with a couple of days, I will drive the bald. Nothing wrong with a plug if it's done correctly. I plugged a tire on my car one time that it took 3 pieces of the cord to get it to stop leaking.

      The tread bed on a passenger car tyre can be thin and flexible compared to a 4x4 light truck and therefore tough to insert. Don't trim the tails until you've checked for leaks. Hold the tails to one side while you squeeze another plug beside the first. The soft car tyre maybe doesn't need as much reaming as he demonstrated.

      On my personal cars, I have yet to get a patch to replace the plugs I've put in. The tire goes bald long before the plug gives. Several years ago I superglued a broke valve stem back together and drove on it for the rest of the time I had the truck.

      I've had a plug in my old set of tires for 2 years. Still is holding. I recently got a "new" set of tires(one tire had a nail the rest were fine, maybe 500 miles on them then taken off an AWD car) and for the hell of it I put a plug in it instead of patching it. If they last 30k, a plug is as good as a patch lol.

    • @Slicknewt
      @Slicknewt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Plugs are far more reliable. Idk about this kind but patches are untrustable garbage

    • @nateTrh
      @nateTrh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@Slicknewt Most tire shops have the new patches that also have a plug on them. You just pull it out from the inside and have glue where the patch is going to end up. Best of both worlds.

    • @SArtisto1
      @SArtisto1 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      The issue with Plugs vs Patch is you don't know if the person drove on the flat tire and for how long. If you catch the nail before the tire gets low you can plug it.
      The reasons shops do patches is because by dismounting the wheel, you can see how bad the sidewalls have been damaged. I've done tires that "look nice" but the sidewalls inside are chewed up to the point the tire is no longer serviceable.
      If they just got a plug, that tire could explode from the damaged sidewalls. Leaving the shop liable because they were the last one to "repair" the tire
      So from a safety concern, patches are the way to go.
      For my own cars, since I never run them flat, a plug will do just fine

      They may have been made from "catgut"... which is made of sheep intestine and is used for many different things, but nothing was ever made from cats guts.

    If it leaks again expect a new tire

  • @chrisjohnson131
    @chrisjohnson131 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So you can't do it in under a minute cuz that tire needs air back up to proper pressure.

    Ya do one that's hard like where the nail head is broken off. Not one where the damn nail head is sticking out a quarter of an inch and dead center of the tire. Like that ever happens.
