I went a few months back to the local Vein specialist for a consult for my varicose veins on my legs, and I mentioned that they are causing me pain. The doctor stated that varicose veins don't cause pain. Never went back to that doctor again.

My wife developed some nasty veins on her legs after our second child. Years later, when they eventually started giving her trouble, she opted for the Radio Frequency ablation technique. The results were astounding. Working out, post procedure, certainly assisted big time in the recovery and sped up the healing process. Looking back, I would suggest having them treated sooner rather than later. Great video.

@decathlete2000 the veins were everything you asked. Quite bad looking. After one treatment and a few months later they have disappeared. The trick is to do some moderate exercise after the procedure. She finds walking outdoors or walking on the treadmill very soothing after the procedure. She has to go back for a follow-up soon to take care of some smaller ones, but the major ones are gone. There is still some numbness in certain areas, but it seems to be coming back over time. I think this is a winner and certainly the least invasive.

I was suffering from varicose veins for over 15 years, It was swollen and heavy I thought they were going to explode in 2010 I decide to have it checked and contact New York veins and had sonogram and they told me I need surgery and they removed the veins cutting along side of my legs, I felt some pain they close the vein with laser it was burning it felt like when you get shot with a gun burning inside, now 13 years later I still never have problems again and my legs looks like nothing ever happened, I have to say thank you to the wonderful doctor for the good job they did, I don't remember theirs names, but the surgeon was a Porto Rican It was a very good decision provably prolonged my life.
The cost was $22,500.00 My insurance paid around 17k and they agreed to me not paying the rest of the money, once again thank you very much if you remember me.

My mom had horrible varicose veins and dealt with blood clots her whole life. In her late 60's, she had several major blockages in her heart. She wasn't a candidate for bypass (because of her veins), but they had just started using stents in the US, so that's what they did. No one believes this story and her doc was shocked too, but shortly after getting the stents, all her varicose veins were gone. I know it shouldn't have happened and no one has much of an explanation, but it's true. She lived another 20 years and had no problems.

I'm 35, started to have vericose veins in my mid 20s. For the past 10 years havent wore a skirt or shorts as they are not looking great with my veins, i have a standing job and i would have some swelling after work, but never caused me pain, but in the past year they got worse and two months ago i got a clot in my calf and thigh that caused me a lot of pain. I was on blood thining medication and it went away. Now they are going crazy again and the area where i got the clot got flatter, but the vein on my thigh bulged up higher on the leg. (I was told is the superficial vericose veins) now my veins hurt more and the swelling it too much. I am looking forward to getting it treated as it got to the point i cant wait with it no longer. This video was very helpful to help me understand what kind of treatments i can use. I always thought surgery was my only option which was not ideal. Im glad i found this channel in perfect time especially when i was about to get an appointment with the clinic in few days 😊 thank you

WILD... I had varicose veins in the back of my legs in high school and in my 20's. I never experienced discomfort, but did have episodes of legs swelling and throbbing in horrible pain, unable to walk. Growing up on a farm, I was treated like a hired hand and was able to be on my HS swim team. I was instructed by my mother the solution was to wrap the area of my leg in a hot towel soaked with Epsom salt solution, wrapped in plastic and by morning the leg recovered. With age they disappeared, never to return, I am now 70 and the only inflammation is my knee and hip. Thanks for the great information!

This is a very serious subject for me, I was a very active healthy man, only 46 years of age, most of my peers could not keep up with me. I developed varicose veins and went to a doctor that was a “Thoracic Surgeon” he was running a. Ken clinic, I guess there were not enough heart attacks in our community for him to be as busy as needed to live his lavish lifestyle. Anyway he performed a vein stripping on my right leg, and later I went home and had a stroke, he introduced an air embolism into my leg that made its way to my brain, via a PFO in my heart, which means a hole in the upper chambers of the heart that allows gas to travel through one side to the other, this is not a good thing, and I have since learned about 25 percent of the population have these PFOs and don’t know it, just like I didn’t. Anyway if you’re thinking about getting a vein stripping you better be 100 percent sure you don’t have this condition, one out four of you reading this post has the same hole in your heart, it doesn’t affect your life in anyway O’Neil you have a quack introduce air into your bloodstream, apparently there is no need to check for PFOs in our area, I do t know what the rules are in your area, but BEWARE! Doctors need money! They may believe the hippocratic oath is the hypocritical oath

About 20 years ago when I was still working, I had both legs operated on for varicose veins. My job and lifestyle caused me to be on my feet a lot. My lower legs were covered with large bulging veins and I originally had a local vein clinic do an ultrasound test and they found huge dilated veins in my upper legs too. Originally my insurance wasn't going to cover the therapy. About a year later I went to my regular doctor with what was a small wet spot on the inside of my ankle. Also there was a lot of darkened skin on both ankles .Turned out that this was the beginning of a small ulcer and it was determined that it was caused by the varicose veins, so then my insurance covered everything. The therapy was actually two different procedures. One was done outpatient at the local hospital and I was unconscious. The doctor basically cut through the skin and hooked the vein with a crochet hook and then cut the vein. Cauterizing the veins to reduce bleeding. Good thing i was knocked out, it would have hurt. Then a couple weeks later, the doctor had me come to his office and with the help of a nurse and an ultrasound tech. They wrapped me up for a surgery with just my knees poking out of the blankets. The doctor did the heat ablation on my upper leg dilated veins, with the help of the ultrasound, he could tell if he was in the vein and how deep he had to go in. I didn't think it hurt, kinda strange feeling having the probe going up inside my leg. He did both legs that afternoon. Apparently he had to do it to a lady in the morning and she was not enjoying it one bit. So everyone is different. I had good results from having this done. Barely missed any work. Cured the mini sore and cleared up the darkened skin. I'm glad that I had it done.

Actually there is something you can take, to take care of the varicose vein problem. My uncle had them and they were painful. He would take one clove of garlic twice a day and they completely went away. He also had a bump on the left side of his forehead, caused by a golf ball, when he was a teenager; that too, went away. Thank you, docs, for addressing such an important issue. I have some experience that may help other varicose vein sufferers. In my case, the cause is hereditary… both my dad and mom had them. The veins were in the back of my legs and the impact affected me to this day. I was a good swimmer and water polo player at school, so cosmetically it was a nightmare for me… I was in a swimming trunks constantly. I decided to have surgery in my thirties, but unfortunately the varicose veins came back with a vengeance. I’ve learned to live with them, but it’s certainly a burden on anyone. Any sufferer must frequently check for the start of ulcers, as these are nasty to treat. Luckily for me, the varicose veins have been painless, I’m now in my seventies and it is, what it is.

Hi sorry you are in pain now wow we have a lot in common. I swam and did water polo until the veins started to show . So I started to run , bad idea maybe but no regrets I loved running until I couldn’t run anymore because of the veins had one of them stripped but now they are back with a vengeance like you said they always come back and re-route . Ouch they hurt me . I wear tights now and just deal with it . Going back to doctor soon to have treatment again . Never ending I think . I don’t have kids so I think that helps .

Manny De Santos- Did you have actual surgery? or did you have a treatment to get your varicose veins closed off? and what do you mean they came back with a vengeance? the same veins that someone performed surgery on came back? Did they actually open back up? or did new veins grow back?

      @@Texasgirl2023 A few answers:
      1) Yes, I had surgery to both legs... uncomfortable, but not painful. The surgeon removed a vein from my groin in the right leg... the implication was the if I needed a heart bypass operation in future, only the vein in the left leg would be available.
      2) Many months after surgery, one small vein in the back of the leg actually burst (while playing golf), but a surgeon managed to seal it with an injection and pressure bandage.
      3) The objective of the surgery I had, was to remove the horrible sight of varicose veins. It had affected me badly whilst growing up.
      4) After surgery other veins regrew in the same area, by the calf muscles. Same unsightly size as before.
I hope this explains better and be aware of the benefits and risks. The moral of the story? Find a very good vascular surgeon.

I started getting these when I was 26. During that time, I worked at retail as a cashier for several years and was told we CAN NOT be seen sitting at the register unless we had documented proof of medical conditions that required us to sit. Main reason being, "It makes us look more professional standing and at attention." Though, I've heard prolonged sitting could also cause varicose veins. Honestly i should've chose a more active line of work, where potentially I could've had nice smooth normal legs today. To make matters worse, they've gotten so bad to the point where my veins in my left testical are now swelling up and enlarging. It's a living nightmare, and I greatly regret working at retail.

I heard that is somehow gets absorbed by the body, but I don’t see how that’s true. Could you explain? I would hate for a dead vein to just sitting in my body, possibly causing more problems.

RFA and evlt both use different technologies for sealing a vein closed from inside out. Yes it will stay in you body and scar. That's the tugging sensation people feel after getting it done. It's the vein scarring. Now some surgeons don't laser all of the gsv down to lower leg because higher risk of nerve damage lower you go as gsv it's close to saphenous nerve

So yes they can work. The vein scars in and new veins are made around it. It doesn’t get absorbed per se.

@@TomA-i4p thanks for explaining! I’m trying to get some real answers because some of these doctors don’t tell the truth and seem clueless when you start asking questions. Most just say things to get some money. I don’t want to get a treatment if it’s going to cause more problems and pain than what I’m having now. But I’m talking about the RFA device. But which one between that one and the glue is safer? And works better?

@@Texasgirl2023 I absolutely 100 percent agree. I been 2 years now studying this stuff because the first Dr didn't explain any of it too me not the risks not the benefits. Even thou his papers he gave me said he did. It's very hard to get straight forward answers to this. From what I read there at least between evlt and RFA is RFA is supposedly the less pain but also I have heard evlt might have a slightly higher closure rate over time. But I believe it's marginal. The glue is newer I don't know much about it. I heard from a ultrasound tech that when she sees the glue procedure being done she worries when it gets higher up the leg it has More of a chance of entering deep system. Which you do not want. Not sure of how good it is on closure rate over time. Sometimes even with the laser and RFA the gsv can open back up again. Not all the time but I heard it's more frequent then they say it is.

For how many minutes per session did you use it and how many sessions per day ? Did you just stand on the plate or took a specific position/angle ?
How bad were the varicose veins ? Bulging worm/intestine looking like or more like dark blue/black spider vein looking like ?

My mother has severe vericose veins on every part of both of her legs. She has had procedures twice. Both times, Her veins were injected with botulinum. The first time, she had bad problems because she was allergic to the botulinum. After, her Dr had to treat her for severe allergy. She was sent in a second time, and again, she was treated with botulinum, even tho they knew her problems. Same thing, all over again. She now refuses to have any more done, because of the reactions she had.

So, what options are there for people with damage to the deep veins? Besides compression stockings.
